What You Need To Know

Review this Information Prior to Beginning Installation These instructions have been designed

to help install your Illuminator™ Tube

Skylight easily and safely. We’ve included a

parts list, list of tools required, installation

instructions for various types of roofi ng

materials and ceiling designs, handy tips,

and safety precautions. Please read these

instructions thoroughly before installing

your Illuminator™ Tube Skylight.

• Pay particular attention to the assembly

diagrams, assembly order, and part

names.

• Identify and organize all parts before

assembly.

• Make a list of the tools and components

you will need for each installation

location.

Following these instructions carefully

will greatly enhance your ability to install

your tube skylight and enjoy fl awless

performance for many years.

Caution: The tube skylight is not designed to hold your weight or the weight of tools or other objects. Walking/placing objects on the skylight could cause personal injury and property damage. A damaged skylight should be repaired immediately. For safe installation and use, do not deviate from these installation instructions.

WarningWorking on a roof is potentially dangerous

but you can signifi cantly reduce the risk by

following these precautions:

• Never work in wet, windy or cold

conditions. Roofi ng materials can be

slippery when wet; asphalt shingles are

brittle when cold and may crumble

underfoot. Plan your installation for a

calm, dry day.

• Wear shoes with slip-resistant soles.

Safety information:• Wear safety glasses and work gloves

when using power tools.

• Use protective work gloves while handling

tube sections to protect hands from sharp

edges.

Pre Installation ChecklistTube Installation/Location

• Before installation, carefully survey the

attic area of your desired location. Make

sure your tube can avoid any wiring,

plumbing, roof valleys, ceiling mounted

registers/fans, etc.

• Make sure that the location you pick

on your roof for your dome/fl ashing is

exposed to direct sunlight throughout

the day. You will not want any trees,

chimneys, etc. to cast a shadow on

the tube skylight’s dome.

• For best results always attempt to install

the tube as straight as possible, locating

the dome/fl ashing directly above the

ceiling diffuser.

• Pre-size the required length of tubing needed prior to starting the job.

• Your tube skylight kit comes with

enough tubing for a 48" installation—

if you require more tubing, you can

purchase additional extension tubes

through your distributor.

• For cathedral ceiling, see page 7.

• For long tube shaft installation, see page 8.

• For metal roof installations, see page 9.

• For tile roof installations, see page 10.

• For 14" skylight with 16" on-center

Building Codes• Consult your local building offi cial about

Some subdivisions may not allow tubes

on the street side of home.

Determining roof pitch• “Roof Pitch” is how far the roof drops

vertically for every 12" of horizontal run.

• Illuminator™ Tube Skylights are for roof

slopes of 3:12 to 12:12.

Important: Be sure to fi rst read through and then follow completely all step-by-step instructions. This will help to ensure proper installation and functionality. Expect installation to take from 1 to 3 hours.

Section 1—Positioning

Determine the Desired Position of the Tube Skylight in the CeilingThese instructions outline the step-by-

step process to install an Illuminator™

Tube Skylight. Before starting, review all

instructions and become familiar with the

parts shown on the page 2.

Special Notes• Always use safe procedures.

• Wear safety glasses when working

with tools.

• Check all measurements before

cutting or drilling.

• It is helpful to have a second person

assist during installation.

Refer to Pre-installation Checklist for tube location tips on page 1.

1. Using a stud fi nder or hammer, fi nd

a location between the ceiling joists.

Push a screwdriver or nail through

the desired position.

2. Cut and insert a section of coat

hanger wire through the hole. This

will make it easier to identify the

hole location in the attic.

3. In the attic, locate the coat hanger

wire. Adjust its location, centering

the opening for the tube between

the framing members. Important: Ensure framing members WILL NOT be cut or compromised. Check wire visibility in the ceiling

below as well as from the hole that

will be cut in the roof.

Section 2—Locating the

Roof Position

For Straight Tube Installations

1a. In the attic, use a plumb line to

fi nd a straight location from the

ceiling hole to the roof location.

Center the opening for the tube

between the framing members.

Drive a nail up into the roof deck

and through the shingles.

For Angled Tube Installations

1b. In the attic, if there are

obstructions at the roof location

(valleys, wires, pipes, ducts,

framing, etc.), adjust tubes up to a

combined 45° angle to fi nd a path

that avoids interference. Center

the opening for the tube between

the framing members. Drive a nail

up into the roof deck and through

the shingles.

Note: Trial-fi tting your tubing will help in determining adjustability and need for additional extensions.

Section 3—Component

Preparation

1c. Remove protective fi lm from

inside all tubes.

Caution: From the hardware pack, select either the 10" or 14" hole cutting template, matching the size of the tube skylight purchased.

Tip: It is recommended that you put all of your tools and rooftop components in a box or bag for easy transfer to the roof.

1. Select the correct hole cutting

template for the tube (10" or 14").

Be sure to use correct template.

2. Locate the protruding nail. Use the

correct hole-cutting template to

trace the diameter while using the

outer template hole.

3. Use a reciprocating/sabre saw to cut

the roof hole.

Tip: Drill a hole inside the traced circle to insert saw blade.

Important: For 14" skylight with 16" on-center rafter spacing, the 14" template will draw a line that overlaps the rafters. Be sure to adjust your cutting angle to avoid cutting into the rafters.

Tip: The vertical seam of the refl ective tube should point to the East or West to avoid irregular light patterns in your room.

4. Use a fl at pry bar to carefully break

the seals on the shingles upslope

above the cut hole. Use a claw

hammer to remove nails on the

shingles above the cut hole.

5. Generously apply roof sealant

around bottom of fl ashing. Slide top

and sides of roof fl ashing under top

shingles.

Tip: We recommend using an asphalt roofi ng cement meeting ASTM D4586, Type 1.

Important: For short shaft cathedral style installation see page 7. Do not install dome yet.

6. Slide top adjustable tube (pink label)

into the fl ashing to check for proper

alignment.

7. Secure fl ashing to roof with 2"

fl ashing screws and washers. For

aluminum fl ashing (Both spun and

formable aluminum. See images on

page 2), use 9 screws and washers

in an evenly spaced, circular pattern

around the 10" or 14" hole. The

circular pattern should be a 21"

diameter for the 10" unit and a 24"

diameter pattern on the 14" unit.

8. For injection molded fl ashing, use 8

screws and washers in the preformed

holes for the 10" and 14" unit.

9. Important: Seal screw heads with

roof sealant.

10. For angled tube installation, reach

and adjust the adjustable tube so

it points to the wire in the ceiling,

or adjust the angle of the tube and

then insert tube into fl ashing.

Note: Adjust tubes by lightly turning, using one hand on each end.

11. Using the ¾ " dome screws and

dome washers (dome washers have

the rubber backing—rubber backing

should face the dome), mount the

dome on the fl ashing aligning the

“N” (molded into outer edge of the

dome) towards the North.

Tip: Dome screws should be snug but do not over tighten creating pressure against the dome.

12. Cover dome screw heads and

washers with an exterior silicone.

Section 5—Inside the

Room

1. Using the correct hole cutting guide

(10" or 14") for your size tube, and

a pencil, locate protruding wire in

the ceiling and trace the diameter

using the inner template hole of the

template marked “A”.

Important: For 14" skylight with 16" on-center rafter spacing, the 14" template will draw a line that overlaps the

2. Use a keyhole/drywall saw to cut

the hole.

Tip: You may have to drill a hole inside the traced diameter circle to insert saw blade.

3. Slide the trim ring up into your

ceiling hole. Make sure the fl ip tabs

are turned in. Reach through hole

and turn fl ip tabs out to hold ring

in place.

4. Secure the ceiling trim ring by

tightening the screws. See above.

Section 6—In the Attic

Tip: The vertical seam of the refl ective tube should point to the East or West to avoid irregular light patterns in your room.

Important: At this point, if you purchased a solar dimmer, this is where you reference the dimmer instructions, packaged with the dimmer unit.

1. Gently set the bottom adjustable

tube fl ange down on the trim ring.

Do not snap in place at this time.

2. If you have an angled installation

you will need to twist your bottom

adjustable tube (blue label) so it

lines up with the top adjustable tube

above. (Be sure you have removed the protective fi lm.)

Note: Adjust tubes by lightly turning, using one hand on each end.

3. Measure distance from the top of

roof fl ashing to ceiling to determine

proper trimming of length of tubes.

4. Slide bottom adjustable tube over

the outside of top adjustable tube.

5. Now you can push down to lock the bottom adjustable tube securely into the lock tabs of the ceiling trim ring.

6. Tape ALL tube seams securely with

foil tape to keep dust, moisture, and

insects out of the tube.

Section 7—Cutting Your

Tube

Important: Once contact is made with adhesive strip on an extension tube, parts cannot be repositioned.

1. Before removing adhesive strip and assembling the extension tube, be sure to measure and cut if necessary. Wear gloves when working with sharp edges.

Tip: When trimming extension tubes, always measure and start from the wide end where tube end diameter = 10" or 14".

2. If necessary, use metal shears to shorten the extension tube. Allow for a 1" overlap at each end where you will connect each tube to another.

3. Once extension tubes are sized to the proper length, remove tan backing paper from adhesive strip on edge of extension tube. Beginning at one end of the extension tube, over-lap the edges of the tube(s), aligning the edge of the tube along the crimp on the other side.

parts cannot be repositioned.

Section 8—Inside the Room

1. Install the diffuser assembly by aligning

the diffuser with the three tabs on

the trim ring. Turn clockwise until

snug in place on the ceiling.

Tip: Diffuser should be rotated at least through two “clicks”. (Full rotation is four “clicks”) to attach to trim ring.

Section 9—Cathedral Ceiling/Short Shaft Installation

Start with regular installation instructions

beginning on page 1.

Note: The solar powered dimmer will not work with a cathedral ceiling or some short installations due to space restrictions.

1. Place bottom adjustable tube

(blue label) (with the fl anged end

down) through the rough-cut hole

in the ceiling.

2. Guide the top portion of the tube

up through the roof fl ashing so

it protrudes upward through the

fl ashing collar on the roof.

3. Place a temporary shim or

ruler across the ceiling opening.

(Approximately 1⁄8" thick)

4. Center the tube over the ceiling cut-

out, resting the tube down onto the

shim. (The shim will keep the tube

from falling through the ceiling.)

5. On the roof, mark the protruding

tube at the top of the fl ashing collar

with a felt pen. This will indicate

where the extra length of tubing

must be trimmed off for a short

shaft install.

6. At the ceiling, slide the temporary

shim out of your way and pull tube

section back out of the ceiling.

7. Wearing protective gloves, carefully

trim away the excess aluminum tubing

using your felt pen marks as a guide.

8. Remove the protective fi lm from the

inside of the tubing.

9. Place the tube section back into

the ceiling making sure to align and

center it inside the roof fl ashing

collar. Place shim back across the

cut-out.

10. Open the box containing the diffuser

assembly and separate the ceiling

ring from the diffuser. Install only the

ceiling ring into the cut-out.

11. You can now remove the shim from

the ceiling and allow the tube to rest

centered over the ceiling ring.

Ceiling on the Roof

Use gloves! The trimmed edge of the tube will be sharp!

1. Carefully press downward on the

trimmed end of the tube. It will lock

down into the three plastic locking

tabs located in the ceiling trim ring,

securing the tube into the rubber

gasket in the ceiling trim ring.

2. Install the solar lens dome onto

the fl ashing collar. See dome install

instructions page 5, then return to

this page for further instructions.

3. Rotate the insulated ceiling diffuser

onto the ceiling trim ring.

Installation Complete!

Section 11—Long Shaft

Installation

For long shaft installation, use steps listed

below, referring to those listed on previous

pages for more specifi c install details.

1. On roof, locate and install top

adjustable tube (pink label) into roof

fl ashing. Install ceiling ring at ceiling.

Install bottom adjustable tube (blue

label) in attic as seen in diagram

below.

2. Frame 2 x 4 support between joists.

Span from roof to ceiling with a

length of 2 x 4 fl at to outside of each

adjustable tube creating a “spine”.

3. Put a (2) 2½ " pan-head, sheet

metal screw (not included) in each

connecting extension.

4. Slide next tube section in and attach

with screw(s). Continue until all but

one extension is connected. Cut and

install last section of extension tube.

5. Seal ALL joints with foil tape.

Go to page 5 “Inside the Room” to continue standard install.

1. After fi nding your roof location, drill

up through the roof until it pushes

roof side. (An assistant on the roof is

recommended during this step.)



3. Locate the drilled hole. Use the

correct hole cutting template to

trace the diameter using the outer

template hole. A nail inserted into

the hole will help guide the template.

center of the hole in the roof,

running side to side the entire width

of the formable fl ashing.

6. Cut a slit through the METAL ROOF

PANEL ONLY across the horizontal

line. Use gloves for safety.

7. With your safety gloves on, be

sure your cut is smooth and free of

sharp edges.

8. Slide the clear plastic fl ashing

through the slit under the upper

metal panel and underlayment, then

down under the lower metal panel.

Be sure the opening is aligned with

the cut hole.

9. Run a continuous bead of sealant

between the clear plastic fl ashing

and the next layer of roofi ng around

the opening.

10. Slide the upper portion of the

formable fl ashing under the metal

panel through the slit. Be sure to

align the fl ashing directly over

the hole.

11. “Dry-fi t form” the lower side of

the fl ashing to conform to the

panel ridges.

12. Once fl ashing is formed over the

panel ridges to your satisfaction,

apply a generous bead of sealant

to the underside of the lower

fl ashing section.

13. Press formed fl ashing down

around roofi ng material.

14. Attach with (9) 2" screws and ¾ "

diameter washers in an evenly

spaced circular pattern around

the 10" or 14" hole. The circular

pattern should be 21" diameter on

the 10" unit and 24" diameter on

the 14" unit. Add additional 2" pan

head screws as needed to secure

edge of fl ashing.

Important: Be sure to dab sealant on all screw heads to ensure a leak-free installation.

Refer back to page 4 “On the Roof” for complete installation instructions.

1. After fi nding your roof location, drill

up through the roof. Then drive a

4"-6" rod or spike up through the

roof sheathing until it pushes the

tile/shingles upward on the roof

side. (An assistant on the roof is

recommended during this step.)

2. Carefully remove the lifted tile and

remove the rod/spike from it’s hole.

3. Position the formable aluminum

fl ashing piece perfectly centered

over the punctured hole.

4. Trace the opening of the formable

collar base so that your tiles are

marked. This will assist in trimming

the roofi ng materials to properly fi t

the fl ashing once in place.

from the “work area.” Set them

aside in the same order or pattern

as when attached to the roof.



7. Use the correct hole cutting

template to trace the diameter

of the outer template hole. A nail

inserted into the hole will help guide

the template.

9. Cut a slit through the underlayment

at the “3:00 and 9:00” positions. Be

sure the slit is as wide as the clear

plastic fl ashing.

hole. Remove any fasteners/nails

that obstruct the clear plastic

Dry-Fit All The Parts

11. Do a practice run of installing

the clear plastic fl ashing,

formable aluminum fl ashing, and

the refl ective tube. Remember

to use protective gloves when

handling metal.

Position the components in place.

If the hole cut in the roof deck is

too small to allow proper position

of components, enlarge the hole

with power saw.

12. Secure the clear plastic fl ashing

to the roof deck by applying a

generous, continuous bead of

sealant on the underside of the

fl ashing.

14. Centering is best achieved by

inserting the refl ective tube into

the opening of the aluminum

fl ashing letting the fi t of the tube-

to-roof hole serve as a guide.

15. The uphill half of the formable

aluminum fl ashing should be laying

on top of the underlayment, while

the downhill half of the fl ashing

should be laying on top of the

downhill tiles.

16. Manually shape the downhill edge

of the formable aluminum fl ashing

to match the surface of the tiles.

Tip: you might fi nd it diffi cult contouring the formable aluminum fl ashing to fi t the downhill tiles. Try shifting those tiles further downhill to allow more aluminum to work with. Or add a 2" shim to the roof deck so the formable aluminum fl ashing is angled to the roof rather than parallel to it.

Secure The Formable Aluminum Flashing

17. Once the formable aluminum

fl ashing is shaped to match the

downhill tiles, clean and dry the

surfaces of aluminum, underlayment,

and tile. Apply roofi ng sealant to all

adjoining surfaces.

18. Secure the formable aluminum

fl ashing with the metal fl ashing

screws and washers. The 9 screws

provided should be installed in a

circular, equally spaced pattern

around the aluminum collar to

improve water sealing. Dab roof

sealant on each screw to create a

water-tight seal. The 10" unit has

a 21" diameter screw pattern; the

14" unit has a 24" diameter screw

pattern.

Tip: The optional wooden shim can be used as a screw anchor as well.

Reinstall Tiles

19. Reinstall the trimmed tiles at the

sides of the roof cutout, making

sure to install them in the same

pattern as they were removed,

from bottom to top. These tiles

need to be installed on top of the

formable aluminum fl ashing.

Make any required adjustments in

trimming the tiles or shingles for a

proper fi t around the side of the

formable fl ashing collar. A “proper

fi t” is one that is within 1"-2" of the

aluminum vertical wall.

Attach these tiles with nails,

caulk the heads of the nails with

exterior silicone.

20. Reinstall the fi nal tiles along

the uphill edge of the formable

fl ashing. This requires the row

of tiles to be lifted slightly and

may be necessary to loosen their

attachments. Secure the tiles with

nails, caulk the heads of the nails

with sealant.

21. Quick setting mortar may be used

to fi ll in the gaps between the tile

and aluminum collar to provide

proper run-off of water. Check all

areas for proper sealing and water

run-off.

Tip: Paint the formable aluminum fl ashing to match the color of the tiles or shingles, if desired.

22. Install remaining components of

the tubular skylight as instructed

in standard installation starting on

page 4 “On the Roof”.

Energy Star®/NFRC Label• For new homes and projects requiring

building permits, cut out NFRC label

once product installation is complete.

• Affi x to diffuser ring as shown and

secure with tape.

• Label is to remain in place until fi nal

inspection to qualify project for

Energy Star.®

• Cut along dotted line and place under

diffuser ring after installation.

• U-Factor: the lower the value the lower

the rate of heat fl ow. Less heat fl ows so

heating and cooling bills are reduced.

• Solar Heat Gain Coeffi cient (SHGC):

Measure ability to block heat caused by

sunlight. The lower the SHGC the more

it reduces air conditioning costs.

17. Una vez que el tapajuntas de

aluminio moldeable tenga la forma que coincide con las tejas descendientes, limpie y seque las superfi cies de aluminio, la membrana y las tejas. Aplique sellador para techos a todas las uniones.

18. Sujete el tapajuntas de aluminio

moldeable con los tornillos y arandelas del tapajuntas de metal. Los 9 tornillos suministrados deben instalarse en un patrón circular con espaciado uniforme alrededor del collarín de aluminio para mejorar el sellado del agua. Pincele cada tornillo con sellador para techos para crear un sellado hermético. La unidad de 10 pulg. tiene un patrón de tornillo de 21 pulg. de diámetro; la unidad de 14 pulg. tiene un patrón de tornillo de 24 pulg. de diámetro.

Reinstalación de las tejas

19. Reinstale la tejas recortadas en

los lados del orifi cio del techo,

asegurándose de instalarlas en el

mismo patrón como se quitaron,

desde abajo hacia arriba. Estas tejas

deben instalarse sobre el tapajuntas

de aluminio moldeable.

Realice cualquier ajuste necesario

recortando las tejas para una

aplicación adecuada alrededor del

collarín del tapajuntas moldeable.

Una “aplicación adecuada” es aquella

dentro de 1 a 2 pulg. de la pared

vertical de aluminio.

Fije estas tejas con clavos y enmasille

las cabezas de los clavos con silicona

para exteriores.

20. Vuelva a instalar las tejas fi nales a lo largo del borde ascendente del tapajuntas moldeable. Esto requiere que se eleve ligeramente una fi la de tejas y puede ser necesario afl ojar las sujeciones. Fije las tejas con clavos y enmasille las cabezas de los clavos con silicona para exteriores.

21. Se puede utilizar mortero de fi jación rápida para rellenar los espacios entre las tejas y la cinta de aluminio a fi n de facilitar el correcto drenado del agua. Verifi que todas las áreas para garantizar un sellado adecuado y el correcto drenado del agua.

Consejo: Si lo desea, pinte el tapajuntas de aluminio moldeable para que coincida con el color de las tejas.

centrada sobre la perforación.

4. Marque la apertura de la base del

collarín moldeable para marcar las tejas.

Corte un orifi cio en el techoComience con las instrucciones para la instalación regular que comienzan en la página 1.

1. Luego de hallar la ubicación en el

techo, perfore el techo hasta pasar cuidadosamente a través del panel, en el lado del techo. (En este paso, se recomienda tener un asistente en el techo).

2. Seleccione la plantilla de corte de orifi cios correcta para el tubo (10 pulg. o 14 pulg.).

3. Ubique el orifi cio perforado. Utilice el

orifi cio exterior de la plantilla de corte

de orifi cios correcta para marcar el

diámetro. Un clavo insertado en el

orifi cio ayudará a guiar la plantilla.

4. Utilice una sierra eléctrica/

alternativa para cortar el orifi cio en

el techo. Utilice una hoja fabricada

específi camente para cortar metal.

5. Marque una línea horizontal a través

del centro del orifi cio en el techo, de

lado a lado y del ancho completo del

tapajuntas moldeable.

6. Corte una hendidura SOLO a través

del PANEL DEL TECHO METÁLICO a lo largo de la línea horizontal. Use guantes para su seguridad.

7. Con los guantes de seguridad

puestos, asegúrese de que el corte quede liso y sin bordes fi losos.

8. Deslice el tapajuntas de plástico transparente a través de la hendidura bajo el panel de metal superior, luego bajo el panel de metal inferior. Asegúrese de que la apertura esté alineada con el orifi cio.

9. Coloque una línea continua de

sellador entre el tapajuntas de plástico transparente y la siguiente capa del techo alrededor de la apertura.

El patrón circular debe tener un diámetro de 21 pulg. para la unidad de 10 pulg., y un diámetro de 24 pulg. para la unidad de 14 pulg. Agregue tornillos adicionales de 2 pulg. con cabeza troncocónica si es necesario para fi jar el borde del tapajuntas.

Importante: Asegúrese de pincelar con sellador todas las cabezas de los tornillos para garantizar una instalación sin fi ltraciones.

del difusor y separe el anillo del

anillo del cielorraso en el orifi cio.

11. Ahora puede quitar las laminillas

del cielorraso y dejar que el tubo

se asiente centrado sobre el anillo

del cielorraso.

Sección 10: Cielorrasos de

gran altura - En el techo

1. Presione hacia abajo cuidadosamente

sobre el extremo recortado del tubo.

Se bloqueará en las tres pestañas

plásticas de bloqueo ubicadas en el

anillo de recorte del cielorraso, fi jando

el tubo en la empaquetadura de goma

del anillo de recorte del cielorraso.

2. Instale la cúpula con lente solar en

el collarín del tapajuntas. Consulte

las instrucciones de instalación de la

cúpula en la página 5, luego regrese

a esta página para obtener más

instrucciones.

3. Gire el difusor con aislamiento del

cielorraso hasta encajarlo en el anillo

de recorte del cielorraso.

Sección 11: Instalación de eje largo

Para instalar un eje largo, siga los pasos detallados a continuación, que hacen referencia a los pasos enumerados en páginas anteriores y proveen detalles de instalación más específi cos.

1. En el techo, ubique e instale el tubo

ajustable superior (etiqueta rosa) en el tapajuntas del techo. Instale el anillo del cielorraso en el cielorraso. Instale el tubo ajustable inferior (etiqueta azul) en el ático, como se muestra en el diagrama a continuación.

2. Enmarque el soporte de 2 x 4 entre

las vigas. Cruce desde el techo hasta el cielorraso con una longitud de 2 x 4 hacia afuera de cada tubo ajustable creando una “columna”.

3. Coloque un tornillo para planchas

metálicas, con cabeza troncocónica de (2) 2½ pulg. (no incluido) en cada extensión de conexión.

4. Luego deslice la sección del tubo hacia adentro y fi je con tornillos. Continúe hasta conectar todas las extensiones excepto una. Corte e instale la última sección del tubo de extensión.

5. Selle TODAS las juntas con cinta con revestimiento metálico.

Sección 7: Corte del tubo

Importante: Una vez que se hace contacto con la tira adhesiva sobre un tubo de extensión, las partes no se pueden volver a posicionar.

1. Antes de exponer la tira adhesiva

y ensamblar el tubo de extensión, asegúrese de medir y cortarlo si es necesario. Use guantes cuando trabaje con bordes fi losos.

Consejo: Al recortar tubos de extensión, siempre mida y comience desde el extremo más ancho donde el diámetro del extremo del tubo es de 10 pulg. o de 14 pulg.

2. Si es necesario, utilice una cizalla de

metal para acortar la extensión del tubo. Deje un margen de superposición de 1 pulg. en cada extremo donde conectará cada tubo con otro.

3. Una vez que los tubos tengan el

tamaño adecuado, quite el papel marrón de la tira adhesiva en el borde del tubo de extensión. Comience por un extremo del tubo de extensión y superponga los bordes de los tubos, de modo que el borde del tubo quede alineado con el pliegue del otro lado.

Sección 8: En la habitación

1. Instale el ensamble del difusor

11. Con los tornillos de ¾ pulg. y las

arandelas de la cúpula (las arandelas

de la cúpula tienen la parte de atrás

de goma, esta parte debe colocarse

mirando hacia la cúpula), sujete la

cúpula al tapajuntas alineando la

“N” (moldeada en el borde exterior

de la cúpula) hacia el norte.

Consejo: Los tornillos de la cúpula deben estar ajustados, pero no los ajuste demasiado ni de modo que se cree presión sobre la cúpula.

12. Cubra las cabezas de los tornillos

y las arandelas de la cúpula con

silicona para exteriores.

1. Con la guía de corte de orifi cios

correcta (de 10 pulg. o de 14 pulg.)

para el tamaño del tubo y un lápiz,

ubique el alambre sobresaliente en

el cielorraso y trace el diámetro

utilizando el orifi cio interior de la

plantilla marcada con la letra “A”.

2. Utilice una sierra de calar/para paredes

de yeso para cortar el orifi cio.

Consejo: Es posible que deba perforar un orifi cio dentro del círculo del diámetro trazado para insertar la hoja de la sierra.

3. Deslice el anillo de recorte en el orifi cio del techo. Asegúrese de que las pestañas estén hacia adentro. Pase la mano por el orifi cio y gire las pestañas hacia afuera para sostener el anillo en el lugar.

Sección 6: En el ático

Consejo: La unión vertical del tubo refl ejante debe apuntar hacia el este o el oeste para evitar patrones de iluminación irregulares en la habitación.

Importante: En este momento, si compró un atenuador solar, aquí es donde debe consultar las instrucciones del atenuador, empaquetado con la unidad del atenuador.

1. Con cuidado, coloque el

revestimiento inferior del tubo ajustable sobre el anillo de recorte. Todavía no lo fi je en el lugar.

3. Mida la distancia desde la parte superior del tapajuntas del techo hasta el cielorraso a fi n de determinar el corte adecuado de la longitud de los tubos.

romper cuidadosamente los sellos en

5. Aplique generosamente sellador

para techos alrededor de la base del

tapajuntas. Deslice la parte superior

y los laterales del tapajuntas para

techos debajo las tejas superiores.

Consejo: Recomendamos usar un cemento para techos a base de asfalto que cumpla con la norma ASTM D4586, Tipo 1.

Importante: Para una instalación de estilo catedral con eje corto, consulte la página 7. No instale la cúpula todavía.

6. Deslice el tubo superior ajustable

(etiqueta rosa) en el tapajuntas para

verifi car una alineación adecuada.

7. Sujete el tapajuntas al techo con los

tornillos de 2 pulg. y las arandelas del tapajuntas. 1. Utilice un localizador de puntales

o un martillo para encontrar una

ubicación entre las vigas del techo.

Pase un destornillador o un clavo a

través de la posición deseada.

2. Corte e inserte una sección del

alambre tipo percha a través del

orifi cio. Esto facilitará la identifi cación

de la ubicación del orifi cio en el ático.

3. Ubique el alambre tipo percha en el

ático. Ajuste la ubicación, centre la

apertura para el tubo entre las piezas

estructurales. Importante: Asegúrese de que las piezas estructurales NO se corten ni se vean afectadas. Verifi que la visibilidad del alambre en el

cielorraso, así como también desde el

orifi cio que se cortará en el techo.

Sección 2: Ubicación de la

posición en el techo

Para la instalación de tubos rectos

1a. En el ático, utilice una plomada

para encontrar el punto en

línea recta desde el orifi cio del

cielorraso hasta el techo. Centre

la apertura para el tubo entre las

piezas estructurales. Coloque un

clavo en la estructura del techo y

a través de las tejas.

Para la instalación de tubos angulares

1b. En el ático, si existen

obstrucciones en la ubicación

del techo (limahoyas, cableado,

tuberías, ductos, estructuras,

etc.), ajuste las tuberías hasta un

ángulo combinado de 45° para

hallar un trayecto que evite las

interferencias. Centre la apertura

para el tubo entre las piezas

estructurales. Coloque un clavo

en la estructura del techo y

a través de las tejas.

Nota: La prueba de ajuste de la tubería ayudará a determinar el ajuste y la necesidad de usar extensiones adicionales.

Sección 3: Preparación de

los componentes

1c. Quite la película protectora del

interior de todos los tubos.

DE INCENDIO. Luego de quitar el revestimiento de lámina del interior del eje del tubo

queda expuesta la superfi cie interna refl ejante. NO deje los componentes del eje del tubo desatendidos o expuestos a la luz directa del sol antes de fi nalizar la instalación completa. Las superfi cies

expuestas pueden incendiarse o sufrir daños por calentamiento como

resultado de la luz solar enfocada antes de la instalación completa del eje del

tubo con el difusor en su lugar.

Precaución: Del paquete de ferretería, seleccione la plantilla de corte de orifi cios de 10 pulg. o de 14 pulg. que coincida con la claraboya tubular que compró.

• Preste especial atención a los diagramas de ensamblaje, el orden de ensamblaje y los nombres de las piezas.

Precaución: La claraboya tubular no está diseñada para soportar su peso o el peso de las herramientas u otros objetos. Caminar o colocar objetos sobre la claraboya puede causar lesiones y daños a la propiedad. Una claraboya dañada debe repararse de inmediato. AdvertenciaTrabajar en un techo es potencialmente peligroso pero puede reducir signifi cativamente el riesgo siguiendo estas precauciones:

• Nunca trabaje en climas fríos, ventosos o con lluvia. Los materiales del techo pueden ser resbaladizos cuando están mojados; las tejas de asfalto son quebradizas cuando hace frío y pueden romperse bajo los pies. Planifi que la instalación para un día seco y calmo.

• Use calzado con suelas antideslizantes.

Lista de verifi cación de preinstalaciónInstalación/ubicación del tubo

• Antes de la instalación, inspeccione cuidadosamente el área del ático de la ubicación deseada. Asegúrese de que el tubo pueda evitar cualquier cableado eléctrico, cañerías, limahoyas, registro de chimeneas o ventiladores montados en el techo, etc.

• Asegúrese de que la ubicación que elija en el techo para la cúpula/tapajuntas esté expuesta a la luz directa del sol durante todo el día. No querrá que árboles, chimeneas, etc. proyecten una sombra en la cúpula de la claraboya tubular.

• Para obtener mejores resultados, siempre intente instalar el tubo lo más derecho posible, ubicando la cúpula/tapajuntas directamente sobre el difusor del techo.

• Mida la longitud requerida de tubería antes de comenzar el trabajo.

• El kit de la claraboya tubular viene con tubería sufi ciente para una instalación de 48 pulg. Si requiere más tubería, puede comprar tubos de extensión adicionales a través de su distribuidor.

en que el techo cae verticalmente por cada 12 pulg. de recorrido horizontal.

son para techos con una inclinación de of 3:12 hasta 12:12.
