▪ Coat the flare inner surface with ether oil or ester oil whenconnecting a flare nut. Tighten 3 or 4 turns by hand, beforetightening firmly.

▪ Always use 2 wrenches together when loosening a flare nut.

▪ Always use a spanner and torque wrench together to tighten theflare nut when connecting the piping. This to prevent nut crackingand leaks.

5.2.4 Pipe bending guidelinesUse a pipe bender for bending. All pipe bends should be as gentleas possible (bending radius should be 30~40 mm or larger).

5.2.5 To flare the pipe end

▪ Incomplete flaring may cause refrigerant gas leakage.

▪ Do NOT re-use flares. Use new flares to preventrefrigerant gas leakage.

▪ Use flare nuts that are included with the unit. Usingdifferent flare nuts may cause refrigerant gas leakage.

1 Cut the pipe end with a pipe cutter.

2 Remove burrs with the cut surface facing down so that thechips do not enter the pipe.

5.2.6 To braze the pipe endThe indoor unit and outdoor unit have flare connections. Connectboth ends without brazing. If brazing should be needed, take thefollowing into account:

▪ When brazing, blow through with nitrogen to prevent creation oflarge quantities of oxidised film on the inside of the piping. Thisfilm adversely affects valves and compressors in the refrigeratingsystem and prevents proper operation.

▪ Set the nitrogen pressure to 20  kPa (0.2  bar) (just enough so itcan be felt on the skin) with a pressure-reducing valve.

▪ Follow the wiring diagram (delivered with the unit,located at the inside of the service cover).

▪ For instructions on how to connect the decoration paneland the sensor kit, see the wiring instruction sheet(delivered with the unit, inside the accessory bag).

▪ Make sure the electrical wiring does NOT obstructproper reattachment of the service cover.

It is important to keep the power supply and the transmission wiringseparated from each other. In order to avoid any electricalinterference the distance between both wiring should always be atleast 50 mm.

NOTICE

Be sure to keep the power line and transmission line apartfrom each other. Transmission wiring and power supplywiring may cross, but may not run parallel.

1 Remove the service cover.

2 User interface cable: Route the cable through the frame,connect the cable to the terminal block, and fix the cable with acable tie.

3 Interconnection cable (indoor↔outdoor): Route the cablethrough the frame, connect the cable to the terminal block(make sure the numbers match with the numbers on theoutdoor unit, and connect the earth wire), and fix the cable witha cable tie.

4 Divide the small sealing (accessory) and wrap it around thecables to prevent water from entering the unit. Seal all gaps toprevent small animals from entering the system.

WARNING

Provide adequate measures to prevent that the unit can beused as a shelter by small animals. Small animals thatmake contact with electrical parts can cause malfunctions,smoke or fire.

7.1 Overview: CommissioningThis chapter describes what you have to do and know tocommission the system after it is installed.

Typical workflowCommissioning typically consists of the following stages:1 Checking the "Checklist before commissioning".2 Performing a test run for the system.

7.2 Precautions when commissioningINFORMATION

During the first running period of the unit, the requiredpower may be higher than stated on the nameplate of theunit. This phenomenon is caused by the compressor, thatneeds a continuous run time of 50 hours before reachingsmooth operation and stable power consumption.

(1) Field settings are defined as follows:

▪ M: Mode number – First number: for group of units – Number between brackets: for individual unit

▪ C1: First code number

▪ C2: Second code number

NOTICE

Before starting up the system, the unit MUST be energisedfor at least 6 hours. The crankcase heater needs to heatup the compressor oil to avoid oil shortage andcompressor breakdown during startup.

NOTICE

NEVER operate the unit without thermistors and/orpressure sensors/switches. Burning of the compressormight result.

NOTICE

Do NOT operate the unit until the refrigerant piping iscomplete (when operated this way, the compressor willbreak).

NOTICE

Cooling operation mode. Perform the test run in coolingoperation mode so that stop valves failing to open can bedetected. Even if the user interface was set to heatingoperation mode, the unit will run in cooling operation modeduring 2‑3 minutes (although the user interface will displaythe heating icon), and then automatically switch to heatingoperation mode.

NOTICE

If you cannot operate the unit in test run, see "7.5  Errorcodes when performing a test run" on page 13.

WARNING

If the panels on the indoor units are not installed yet, makesure to power OFF the system after finishing the test run.To do so, turn OFF operation via the user interface. DoNOT stop operation by turning OFF the circuit breakers.

There are NO missing phases or reversed phases.

The system is properly earthed and the earth terminalsare tightened.The fuses or locally installed protection devices areinstalled according to this document, and have not beenbypassed.The power supply voltage matches the voltage on theidentification label of the unit.There are NO loose connections or damaged electricalcomponents in the switch box.The insulation resistance of the compressor is OK.

There are NO damaged components or squeezedpipes on the inside of the indoor and outdoor units.There are NO refrigerant leaks.

The correct pipe size is installed and the pipes areproperly insulated.

The stop valves (gas and liquid) on the outdoor unit arefully open.

7.4 To perform a test runThis task is only applicable when using the BRC1E52 or BRC1E53user interface. When using any other user interface, see theinstallation manual or service manual of the user interface.

NOTICE

Do not interrupt the test run.

INFORMATION

Backlight. To perform an ON/OFF action on the userinterface, the backlight does not need to be lit. For anyother action, it needs to be lit first. The backlight is lit for±30 seconds when you press a button.

1 Perform introductory steps.

NOTICE

Do not use the system for other purposes. In order to avoidany quality deterioration, do not use the unit for coolingprecision instruments, food, plants, animals or works of art.

12.2 Operating the system

12.2.1 About operating the system▪ To protect the unit, turn on the main power switch 6 hours before

operation.

▪ If the main power supply is turned off during operation, operationwill restart automatically after the power turns back on again.

12.2.2 About cooling, heating, fan only, andautomatic operation

▪ The air flow rate may adjust itself depending on the roomtemperature or the fan may stop immediately. This is not amalfunction.

12.2.3 About the heating operationIt may take longer to reach the set temperature for general heatingoperation than for cooling operation.

The following operation is performed in order to prevent the heatingcapacity from dropping or cold air from blowing.

Defrost operationIn heating operation, freezing of the outdoor unit's air cooled coilincreases over time, restricting the energy transfer to the outdoorunit's coil. Heating capability decreases and the system needs to gointo defrost operation to be able to deliver enough heat to the indoorunits.

The indoor unit will stop fan operation, the refrigerant cycle willreverse and energy from inside the building will be used to defrostthe outdoor unit coil.

The indoor unit will indicate defrost operation on the display .

Hot startIn order to prevent cold air from blowing out of an indoor unit at thestart of heating operation, the indoor fan is automatically stopped.The display of the user interface shows . It may take sometime before the fan starts. This is not a malfunction.

12.2.4 To operate the system1 Press the operation mode selector button on the user interface

several times and select the operation mode of your choice.

2 Press the ON/OFF button on the user interface.

Result: The operation lamp lights up and the system startsoperating.

12.3 Using the dry program

12.3.1 About the dry program▪ The function of this program is to decrease the humidity in your

room with minimal temperature decrease (minimal room cooling).

▪ The micro computer automatically determines temperature andfan speed (cannot be set by the user interface).

▪ The system does not go into operation if the room temperature islow (<20°C).

12.3.2 To use the dry programTo start1 Press the operation mode selector button on the user interface

several times and select (program dry operation).

2 Press the ON/OFF button of the user interface.

Result: The operation lamp lights up and the system startsoperating.

To stop3 Press the ON/OFF button on the user interface once again.

Result: The operation lamp goes out and the system stopsoperating.

NOTICE

Do not turn off power immediately after the unit stops, butwait for at least 5 minutes.

12.4 Adjusting the air flow directionRefer to the operation manual of the user interface.

12.4.1 About the air flow flap

Double flow+multi-flow units

For the following conditions, a micro computer controls the air flowdirection which may be different from the display.

Cooling Heating▪ When the room temperature is

lower than the settemperature.

▪ When starting operation.

▪ When the room temperature ishigher than the settemperature.

▪ At defrost operation.▪ When operating continuously at horizontal air flow direction.

▪ When continuous operation with downward air flow is performedat the time of cooling with a ceiling-suspended or a wall-mountedunit, the micro computer may control the flow direction, and thenthe user interface indication will also change.

The air flow direction can be adjusted in one of the following ways:

▪ The air flow flap itself adjusts its position.

▪ The air flow direction can be fixed by the user.

▪ Automatic and desired position .

WARNING

Never touch the air outlet or the horizontal blades while theswing flap is in operation. Fingers may become caught orthe unit may break down.

NOTICE

▪ The movable limit of the flap is changeable. Contactyour dealer for details. (only for double-flow, multi-flow,corner, ceiling-suspended and wall-mounted).

▪ Avoid operating in the horizontal direction . It maycause dew or dust to settle on the ceiling or flap.

13 Maintenance and serviceNOTICE

Never inspect or service the unit by yourself. Ask aqualified service person to perform this work. However, asend user, you may clean the air filter, suction grille, airoutlet and outside panels.

WARNING

Never replace a fuse with a fuse of a wrong ampere ratingsor other wires when a fuse blows out. Use of wire orcopper wire may cause the unit to break down or cause afire.

CAUTION

Do not insert fingers, rods or other objects into the air inletor outlet. Do not remove the fan guard. When the fan isrotating at high speed, it will cause injury.

CAUTION

After a long use, check the unit stand and fitting fordamage. If damaged, the unit may fall and result in injury.

NOTICE

Do not wipe the controller operation panel with benzine,thinner, chemical dust cloth, etc. The panel may getdiscoloured or the coating peeled off. If it is heavily dirty,soak a cloth in water-diluted neutral detergent, squeeze itwell and wipe the panel clean. Wipe it with another drycloth.

CAUTION

Before accessing terminal devices, make sure to interruptall power supply.

NOTICE

When cleaning the heat exchanger, make sure to removethe switch box, fan motor, drain pump and float switch.Water or detergent might deteriorate the insulation ofelectronic components and result in burnout of thesecomponents.

13.1 Cleaning the air filter, suctiongrille, air outlet and outside panels

13.1.1 To clean the air filterWhen to clean the air filter:

▪ Rule of thumb: Clean every 6  months. If the air in the room isextremely contaminated, increase the cleaning frequency.

▪ Depending on the settings, the user interface can display theTIME TO CLEAN AIR FILTER notification. Clean the air filterwhen the notification is displayed.

▪ If the dirt becomes impossible to clean, change the air filter(= optional equipment).

How to clean the air filter:

Do NOT use water of 50°C or higher. Possibleconsequence: Discoloration and deformation.

3 Clean the air filter. Use a vacuum cleaner or wash with water. Ifthe air filter is very dirty, use a soft brush and neutral detergent.

4 Dry the air filter in the shadow.

5 Reattach the air filter and close the suction grille (steps 2 and 1in reverse order).

6 Turn ON the power.

7 Press the FILTER SIGN RESET button.

Result: The TIME TO CLEAN AIR FILTER notificationdisappears from the user interface.

13.1.2 To clean the suction grille

4 Clean the suction grille. Wash with a soft bristle brush andwater or neutral detergent. If the suction grille is very dirty, usea typical kitchen cleaner, leave it on for 10  min, then wash itwith water.

5 Reattach the air filter (step 3 in reverse order).

6 Reattach the suction grille and close it. (step 2 and 1 in reverseorder)

13.1.3 To clean the air outlet and outside panels

WARNING

Do NOT let the indoor unit get wet. Possibleconsequence: Electric shock or fire.

NOTICE

▪ Do NOT use gasoline, benzene, thinner polishingpowder or liquid insecticide. Possible consequence:Discoloration and deformation.

▪ Do NOT use water or air of 50°C or higher. Possibleconsequence: Discoloration and deformation.

▪ Do NOT scrub firmly when washing the blade withwater. Possible consequence: The surface sealingpeels off.

Clean with a soft cloth. If it is difficult to remove stains, use water orneutral detergent.

13.2 Maintenance after a long stopperiod

E.g., at the beginning of the season.

▪ Check and remove everything that might be blocking inlet andoutlet vents of indoor units and outdoor units.

▪ Clean air filters and casings of indoor units (see "13.1.1 To cleanthe air filter" on page 17 and "13.1.3 To clean the air outlet andoutside panels" on page 18).

▪ Turn on the power at least 6 hours before operating the unit inorder to ensure smoother operation. As soon as the power isturned on, the user interface display appears.

13.3 Maintenance before a long stopperiod

E.g., at the end of the season.

▪ Let the indoor units run in fan only operation for about half a day inorder to dry the interior of the units. Refer to "12.2.2  Aboutcooling, heating, fan only, and automatic operation"  on page  16for details on fan only operation.

▪ Turn off the power. The user interface display disappears.

▪ Clean air filters and casings of indoor units (see "13.1.1 To cleanthe air filter" on page 17 and "13.1.3 To clean the air outlet andoutside panels" on page 18).

13.4 About the refrigerantThis product contains fluorinated greenhouse gases. Do NOT ventgases into the atmosphere.

▪ Do NOT pierce or burn refrigerant cycle parts.

▪ Do NOT use cleaning materials or means to acceleratethe defrosting process other than those recommendedby the manufacturer.

▪ Be aware that the refrigerant inside the system isodourless.

WARNING

R410A is a non-combustible refrigerant, and R32 is amildly flammable refrigerant; they normally don’t leak. If therefrigerant leaks in the room and comes in contact with firefrom a burner, a heater, or a cooker, this may result in afire (in case of R32), or the formation of a harmful gas.

Turn off any combustible heating devices, ventilate theroom, and contact the dealer from where you purchasedthe unit.

Do not use the unit until a service person confirms that thepart from which the refrigerant leaked has been repaired.

13.5 After-sales service and warranty

13.5.1 Warranty period▪ This product includes a warranty card that was filled in by the

dealer at the time of installation. The completed card has to bechecked by the customer and stored carefully.

▪ If repairs to the product are necessary within the warranty period,contact your dealer and keep the warranty card at hand.

13.5.2 Recommended maintenance andinspection

Since dust collects when using the unit for several years,performance of the unit will deteriorate to some extent. As takingapart and cleaning interiors of units requires technical expertise andin order to ensure the best possible maintenance of your units, werecommend to enter into a maintenance and inspection contract ontop of normal maintenance activities. Our network of dealers hasaccess to a permanent stock of essential components in order tokeep your unit in operation as long as possible. Contact your dealerfor more information.

When asking your dealer for an intervention, always state:▪ The complete model name of the unit.

▪ The manufacturing number (stated on the nameplate of the unit).

▪ The installation date.

▪ The symptoms or malfunction, and details of the defect.

WARNING

▪ Do not modify, disassemble, remove, reinstall or repairthe unit yourself as incorrect dismantling or installationmay cause an electric shock or fire. Contact yourdealer.

▪ In case of accidental refrigerant leaks, make sure thereare no naked flames. The refrigerant itself is entirelysafe and non-toxic. R410A is a non-combustiblerefrigerant, and R32 is a mildly flammable refrigerant,but they will generate a toxic gas when theyaccidentally leak into a room where combustible airfrom fan heaters, gas cookers, etc. is present. 13.5.4 Shortened maintenance and replacementcycles

Shortening of "maintenance cycle" and "replacement cycle" needs tobe considered in following situations:

The unit is used in locations where:▪ Heat and humidity fluctuate out of the ordinary.

▪ Power fluctuation is high (voltage, frequency, wave distortion, etc.)(the unit cannot be used if power fluctuation is outside theallowable range).

▪ Bumps and vibrations are frequent.

▪ Dust, salt, harmful gas or oil mist such as sulphurous acid andhydrogen sulfide may be present in the air.

▪ The machine is started and stopped frequently or operation time islong (sites with 24 hour air-conditioning).

Damage due to taking apart or cleaning interiors of units byanyone other than our authorised dealers may not beincluded in the warranty.

14 TroubleshootingIf one of the following malfunctions occur, take the measures shownbelow and contact your dealer.

WARNING

Stop operation and shut off the power if anythingunusual occurs (burning smells etc.).

Leaving the unit running under such circumstances maycause breakage, electric shock or fire. Contact your dealer.

The system must be repaired by a qualified service person:

Malfunction MeasureIf a safety device such as a fuse, abreaker or an earth leakage breakerfrequently actuates or the ON/OFFswitch does not properly work.

Turn off the main powerswitch.

If water leaks from the unit. Stop the operation.The operation switch does not workwell.

Turn off the power.

If the user interface display indicates theunit number, the operation lamp flashesand the malfunction code appears.

Notify your installer andreport the malfunctioncode.

If the system does not properly operate except for the abovementioned cases and none of the above mentioned malfunctions isevident, investigate the system according to the followingprocedures.

Malfunction MeasureIf the system does notoperate at all.

▪ Check if there is no power failure. Waituntil power is restored. If power failureoccurs during operation, the systemautomatically restarts immediately afterpower is restored.

▪ Check if no fuse has blown or breaker isactivated. Change the fuse or reset thebreaker if necessary.

Malfunction MeasureThe system operatesbut cooling or heatingis insufficient.

▪ Check if air inlet or outlet of outdoor orindoor unit is not blocked by obstacles.Remove any obstacles and make surethe air can flow freely.

▪ Check if the air filter is not clogged (see"13.1.1  To clean the air filter"  onpage 17).

▪ Check the temperature setting.

▪ Check the fan speed setting on your userinterface.

▪ Check for open doors or windows. Closedoors and windows to prevent wind fromcoming in.

▪ Check if there are too many occupants inthe room during cooling operation. Checkif the heat source of the room isexcessive.

▪ Check if direct sunlight enters the room.Use curtains or blinds.

▪ Check if the air flow angle is proper.

If after checking all above items, it is impossible to fix the problemyourself, contact your installer and state the symptoms, the completemodel name of the unit (with manufacturing number if possible) andthe installation date (possibly listed on the warranty card).

14.1 Symptoms that are NOT systemmalfunctions

The following symptoms are NOT system malfunctions:

14.1.1 Symptom: The system does not operate▪ The air conditioner does not start immediately after the ON/OFF

button on the user interface is pressed. If the operation lamplights, the system is in normal condition. To prevent overloading ofthe compressor motor, the air conditioner starts 5 minutes after itis turned ON again in case it was turned OFF just before. Thesame starting delay occurs after the operation mode selectorbutton was used.

▪ If "Under Centralized Control" is displayed on the user interface,pressing the operation button causes the display to blink for a fewseconds. The blinking display indicates that the user interfacecannot be used.

▪ The system does not start immediately after the power supply isturned on. Wait one minute until the micro computer is preparedfor operation.

14.1.2 Symptom: The fan strength does notcorrespond to the setting

The fan speed does not change even if the fan speed adjustmentbutton in pressed. During heating operation, when the roomtemperature reaches the set temperature, the outdoor unit goes offand the indoor unit changes to whisper fan speed. This is to preventcold air blowing directly on occupants of the room. The fan speedwill not change if the button is pressed.

14.1.3 Symptom: The fan direction does notcorrespond to the setting

The fan direction does not correspond with the user interfacedisplay. The fan direction does not swing. This is because the unit isbeing controlled by the micro computer.

14.1.4 Symptom: White mist comes out of a unit(Indoor unit)

▪ When humidity is high during cooling operation. If the interior of anindoor unit is extremely contaminated, the temperature distributioninside a room becomes uneven. It is necessary to clean theinterior of the indoor unit. Ask your dealer for details on cleaningthe unit. This operation requires a qualified service person.

▪ Immediately after the cooling operation stops and if the roomtemperature and humidity are low. This is because warmrefrigerant gas flows back into the indoor unit and generatessteam.

14.1.5 Symptom: White mist comes out of a unit(Indoor unit, outdoor unit)

When the system is changed over to heating operation after defrostoperation. Moisture generated by defrost becomes steam and isexhausted.

14.1.6 Symptom: The user interface displayreads "U4" or "U5" and stops, but thenrestarts after a few minutes

This is because the user interface is intercepting noise from electricappliances other than the air conditioner. The noise preventscommunication between the units, causing them to stop. Operationautomatically restarts when the noise ceases.

14.1.7 Symptom: Noise of air conditioners(Indoor unit)

▪ A "zeen" sound is heard immediately after the power supply isturned on. The electronic expansion valve inside an indoor unitstarts working and makes the noise. Its volume will reduce inabout one minute.

▪ A continuous low "shah" sound is heard when the system is incooling operation or at a stop. When the drain pump is inoperation, this noise is heard.

▪ A "pishi-pishi" squeaking sound is heard when the system stopsafter heating operation. Expansion and contraction of plastic partscaused by temperature change make this noise.

14.1.8 Symptom: Noise of air conditioners(Indoor unit, outdoor unit)

▪ A continuous low hissing sound is heard when the system is incooling or defrost operation. This is the sound of refrigerant gasflowing through both indoor and outdoor units.

▪ A hissing sound which is heard at the start or immediately afterstopping operation or defrost operation. This is the noise ofrefrigerant caused by flow stop or flow change.

14.1.9 Symptom: Noise of air conditioners(Outdoor unit)

When the tone of operating noise changes. This noise is caused bythe change of frequency.

14.1.10 Symptom: Dust comes out of the unitWhen the unit is used for the first time in a long time. This isbecause dust has gotten into the unit.

14.1.11 Symptom: The units can give off odoursThe unit can absorb the smell of rooms, furniture, cigarettes, etc.,and then emit it again.

14.1.12 Symptom: The outdoor unit fan does notspin

During operation. The speed of the fan is controlled in order tooptimise product operation.

14.1.13 Symptom: The display shows "88"This is the case immediately after the main power supply switch isturned on and means that the user interface is in normal condition.This continues for 1 minute.

14.1.14 Symptom: The compressor in the outdoorunit does not stop after a short heatingoperation

This is to prevent refrigerant from remaining in the compressor. Theunit will stop after 5 to 10 minutes.

15 RelocationContact your dealer for removing and reinstalling the total unit.Moving units requires technical expertise.

16 DisposalThis unit uses hydrofluorocarbon. Contact your dealer whendiscarding this unit.

NOTICE

Do not try to dismantle the system yourself: the dismantlingof the system, treatment of the refrigerant, oil and otherparts must comply with applicable legislation. Units mustbe treated at a specialized treatment facility for reuse,recycling and recovery.
