Strategies• Reading on to the end of a sentence or back

to the beginning

• Look for words within words

• Ask “Does that make sense?”

• Use phonics sometimes- NOT every word!

• Develop and encourage self- correction

Tips for Year 2 parents• Let your child see you read ! Talk about your reading• Keep it a regular habit- daily or 5X per week at least• Read together- even if your child is a capable

independent reader• Read aloud• Find a comfortable, quiet place- no distraction• Explain strategies- NOT always phonics!• Talk about the book…Open Ended questioning
