Page 2: Inspired by Our Core Values - Ursuline Academy of Dallas

Thank you for being a vital part of Ursuline Academy of Dallas, an extraordinary educational apostolate dedicated to educating young women for leadership and service in their communities, their Church, and the world.

For the oldest high school in Dallas, the challenge of living at the center of tradition and innovation has always been enthusiastically embraced by the Ursuline Sisters. This evening’s program celebrates both the timelessness of the Ursuline Core Values and how they guide our mission being lived out at the Academy today.

Academic Excellence is truly a hallmark of an Ursuline education. Innovative teaching and learning approaches are supported by exciting new technologies and changing the ways that students grow as critical and creative thinkers.

Spiritual Formation and Faith Development is essential to our role as a Catholic school, integrating Catholic Social Teachings as spiritual life is nourished.

Respect for the Uniqueness of the Individual embraces personalized learning strategies which more fully integrate student voice and choice in the learning process.

Development of the Whole Person provides a focus for our curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular programs and the work we do each day to promote student wellness.

Development of a Nurturing Community Spirit encompasses our schoolwide priority of Inclusion and Community and is manifest in the life-long friendships our students form.

Commitment to Peacemaking is strengthened through transformative experiences which help our students grow in global competence, better understand the realities of other cultures, and share a unique sisterhood with students around the globe.

Serviam as a Lived Reality is the very heart of our school, forming students as servant leaders.

In all of this, and especially in our special partnership with you, we hear the words of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Order, from her Last Legacy:

“Persevere faithfully and joyfully in the work you have begun.”

Yours in Christ,

GretchenZ.Kane

Mary and Mike Terry are active entrepreneurs and philanthropists whose leadership and service

extend throughout the North Texas community. They grew up in the Dallas area and attended

Ursuline Academy and Highland Park High School, respectively. They met soon after high school

and married while students at the University of North Texas in Denton.

They established The Mike & Mary Terry Family Foundation (TMMTFF) in 2006 to provide equal

opportunities for all children, advance youth through education and ensure a haven for those

in need. They support organizations that help the homeless and victims of abuse as well as

education, particularly Catholic education. TMTFF presented its first $1 million grant to Ursuline

Academy in 2006. TMTFF support helped fund The Terry Courtyard inside the French Family Science,

Math and Technology Center; and The Mike & Mary Terry Family Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Mike currently serves on the boards of Ursuline Academy, Jesuit College Preparatory School,

Cristo Rey Dallas, Teach for America, The Loop Circuit Trail Conservancy, UT Southwestern

President’s Advisory Board and the Advisory Council of The Catholic Foundation. Mary currently

serves on The Catholic Foundation Board of Trustees. For the past decade, she has volunteered

weekly at The Bridge, serving meals to the homeless. She also delivers donations through the

St. Rita Bread Ministry.

The Terrys received the 2009 Association of

Fundraising Professionals Philanthropist of

the Year Award, 2012 Bridge Builder Award,

2014 Catholic Foundation Award and 2014

Dallas Historical Society Award for Excellence

in Education. Texas A&M University Kingsville

inducted Mike and Mary into their Legacy

Society in 2017. The Terrys’ MT7 Ranch in

Stephens County encompasses more than

22,000 acres and received the Texas Wildlife

Association’s “Landowner of the Year” award

in 2015, for its land stewardship and wildlife

enhancements.

Active members at St. Rita Catholic Church,

Mike and Mary reside in Dallas and have three

children and four grandchildren.
