LIGHTING AND THERMAL ENVIRONMENT .2826
-Lighting shall be capable of illumination to at least 50 foot candles at work surfaces.
-At least 10 foot candles in all other areas including storage rooms
-Shielded or shatterproof bulbs shall be used in food prep, storage and serving areas and in all rooms used by children.
-Room temperatures maintained between 65 –85 degrees.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASE & CONDITIONS .2827
*Each child care center shall include a designated area for a child who becomes ill to the extent they can no longer participate in routine group activities.Shall include- a bed/cot/mat
- vomitus receptacle-or separated by a partition or screen
*Employees with a communicable disease or condition shall be excluded from situations in which transmission can be expected to occur.
Sick Areas
WASTEWATER .2829
All wastewater shall be disposed of in a publicly-owned wastewater treatment system or by an approved septic system.
-septic systems shall be sized to accommodate anticipated children and
staff for all shifts.
SOLID WASTE .2830Facilities shall be provided for the washing and
storage of garbage containers and mops.Shall include:
- a faucet with a threaded nozzle -water at least 80 degrees -designated utility sink or -above a curbed impervious pad sloped to
drainDumpsters shall be kept clean and covered.

Unrestrained animals, except those used in supervised activities or pet therapy programs, shall not be allowed in a child care center, including the outdoor learning environment.• When pets are kept on the premises, copies of
vaccination records required by state law or local ordinance shall be available for review.

b) Effective measures shall be taken to keep uncontained insects, rodents, and other vermin out of the child care centers and to prevent their breeding or presence on the premises.– Traps shall be inaccessible to children. No
pesticides applied or used when children are present.

Shall be designed, constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with the rules governing public swimming pools.
Potable wading pools, natural bodies of water and other unfiltered, non-disinfected containments of water shall not be utilized for recreational activities.

An inspection shall be conducted within 30 days when requested by an operator.
Unannounced inspections made once each 6 months. Original copy sent to DCD.
Demerits are listed for each occurrence in this section.

Classifications Superior: demerits does not exceed 15 .… no 6
point demerit items Approved: more than 15 demerits but does not

renovation necessary
Disapproved: more than 45 demerits or if provisional conditions have not been corrected within time period specified

example, no water fountains, cloth diapers, 36 inch separation/partitions/beds, caregivers can’t prepare food, no carpet, no family-style food, handwashing frequency, glove use, waste disposal.
