Installation

CAUTION

All Insight workstations on a Management Level Network (MLN) must be running the same revision of the Insight software to properly communicate together.

You can perform the following installations: A new installation of Revision 3.11. An update to Revision 3.11 from an existing Revision 3.10, 3.9.1, or 3.9 installation. An upgrade and database conversion of an existing Insight PC 2.x database to

Revision 3.11.

Before installation, do the following:

CAUTION

In order to properly install all applications, you must have elevated Windows user privileges on workstations running Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008 operating systems if User Access Control (UAC) is enabled.

Back Up Databases. Before updating to or installing the latest software revision, we recommend that you fully back up your existing Insight database.

Install Operating System Software. You can only install the software after you have properly installed and configured the supported Windows operating systems listed in the System Recommendations.

If you intend to use the same server computer for both your Insight Database Server and your InfoCenter Advanced Server, then only the Windows Server operating systems are supported (not Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7).

Install Windows Service Packs. Before installing the software, it is highly recommended that you install the service packs—with the latest Microsoft updates and security patches—listed in the System Recommendations.

Other Third-Party Software. Adobe® Reader® is required to read the PDF version of the Release Notes. For your convenience, Adobe Reader is included on the installation media.

Install Corel DESIGNER® 9.0. Install DESIGNER 9.0, which is included on the installation media. In order to have a registered, non-expiring version of the DESIGNER software installed, you must install it using the third-party tools section of the Insight Installation dialog box. Not doing so will install a trial version of the software that will eventually expire.

General Enhancements This revision contains the following general enhancements:

SentinelLM License Codes New license codes are required when updating to Revision 3.11. The Insight Base (INCore) and Insight Advanced (INCmbo) SentinelLM licenses are version specific and must be updated from Revision 3.10, 3.9.1, or 3.9 in order to run Revision 3.11. This does not apply to any Insight option licenses you previously purchased. You must contact a Siemens Industry representative to obtain your new license codes. For more information, see the Starting the Software online help file by clicking the Getting Started link on the Online Documentation screen.

Shared License File with InfoCenter Software Because InfoCenter Revision 1.5 and later uses the same SentinelLM licensing method, both the InfoCenter software and the Insight software share a common location for the license file (lservrc) in \Program Files\Siemens\APOGEE\Common.

NOTE: In 64-bit operating systems, the license file is located in: \Program Files (x86)\Siemens\APOGEE\Common.

Installing an Insight Client workstation on a computer where InfoCenter Server 1.5 or later is already installed can result in the Insight Client workstation not functioning. In this situation, contact your Siemens Industry representative for more information.
