“Bolts Market by Type (Half Screw Bolt and Full Screw Bolt), Material (Plastic and Metal), and End User (Automotive, Aerospace, Construc-tion, Industrial Machinery and Other): Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2021–2030”. According to the report, the global bolts industry generated some US$46.8 billion in 2020, and is an-ticipated to generate US$81.1 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 5.7% from 2021 to 2030.

Growth in the construction indus-try, manufacturing sector and tech-nical and economic efficiency will drive global bolts market growth. However, fluctuating raw materials cost and less accuracy of bolted connections hinder market growth. But, an increase in automotive industry demand presents new opportunities in the coming years.

Allied Market Research also published a report, titled, “Aero-space Fasteners Market by Material (Aluminum, Alloy Steel, Titanium and Others), Product (Nuts & Bolts, Rivets, Screws and Others), and Application (Military Aviation, Com-mercial Aviation and Civil Aviation): Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2021–2030.” According to this report, the global aerospace fasteners market was estimated at US$7.42 billion in 2020 and is expected to hit US$12.80 bil-lion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 5.5% from 2021 to 2030.

A rise in air travel and surg-ing government expenditure on defense drive growth of the glob-al aerospace fasteners market. However, a rise in adoption of 3D printing restrains the growth to some extent. But developments in aerospace applications across the world are expected to create lucra-tive opportunities in the sector.

Nails Coalition Supports Tariff Extension The American Steel Nail Coalition, which represents most USA nail mak-ers, has filed an Amicus Curiae brief supporting the U.S. Government’s efforts to prevent a flood of foreign nail imports in circumvention of 2018 tariffs on steel. The Government has appealed a decision last year by the U.S. Court of International Trade that invalidated a presidential proclamation extending the original steel tariffs to nails and other derivative products. In March 2018, President Trump is-sued Proclamation 9705, placing 25% tariffs on steel imports from nearly all countries under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, which gives authority to the White House to

respond to trade threats to national security. Then in January 2020, the President issued Proclamation 9980, addressing a large increase of imports of steel derivatives such as nails, which were not covered by Proclamation 9705. That increase was a clear cir-cumvention of the original steel tariffs.Foreign nail makers including Oman Fasteners, and USA distributors in-cluding PrimeSource Building Prod-ucts, then challenged the extension of tariffs to nails and won favorable judgments last April. The Biden Admin-istration appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, to which the American Steel Nail Coalition now has addressed its Amicus brief.

Trifast Invests in European Manufacturing Capacity International fastener specialist TR VIC SpA, part of the Trifast plc group of companies, has once again benefited from a significant investment at its manufacturing site in central Italy. In expanding the TR Viterie Italia Centrale (TR VIC SpA) site in Fossato Di Vico in Umbria, Trifast is further in-creasing its capacity to meet the grow-ing European white goods market. The site has experienced unprecedented demand, which has been fueled by the increase in consumer-driven home improvements during COVID. The investment is largely focused on securing new machinery at the site, all locally sourced from Italian manu-

facturers, and this will increase the production capacity by some 33%. It builds on an earlier move back in January 2021 to implement additional multi-

station cold forming machinery in the firm’s heading section. This will result in the ability to produce an additional 500 million pieces annually over the next 12 months. The site is focussed on being ‘Industry 4.0 compliant’ creating a greener and more efficient workspace, providing a modern, fresh and diverse environ-ment. The work is to be completed in two phases in 2022 and 2023 which includes extending the manufacturing footprint of the site. www.trvic.it

Obituaries:Robert J. Harris

The Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI), Independence, OH, USA, reports, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the sud-den passing of our dear friend and colleague, Robert J. Harris, on January 22, 2022. His many contributions to the IFI began with his tenure as Managing Director in 1995. His first task was to stabilize IFI’s financial situation by directly overseeing industry trade shows in Cleveland and Chicago for six years, adding needed financial strength to IFI reserves. He then reorganized IFI Divisions and on-boarded nation-ally recognized experts in govern-ment affairs, technical standards, research and training. Rob also spearheaded the drive to successfully reverse the industry’s stance on the Fastener Quality Act. Rob’s many industry contributions were acknowledged in 2018 when he received the IFI Soaring Eagle Meritorious Service Award. www.indfast.org
