Spring! Well, the weather has not always beenspring-like. Hopefully, by the time you havereceived this issue in June, there will be moresunny, warm days. You can say that on April 23 it was warm andsunny because of the fellowship and activitiesgenerated among the members who attendedthe State Conference in Terre Haute. There weremany positive comments about the interesting sessions and the guestspeaker, Mike Lunsford. Thanks to our state finance chairman, Marcia Alexander, and the financecommittee who worked so diligently, we were able to accept the 2016-2017 State Budget. Thanks to Leslie Hamman, state treasurer, fordeveloping the budget with categories. It is much easier to read andunderstand.Council 10 Planning Committee members are to be commended on a jobwell done, and given a big thank you for all their efforts in making the2016 State Conference a success. Thank you to co-chairmen, SarabethMarcinko and Sarah Sykes for leading the planning committee.I am also pleased to announce that Carol Herzog was selected to be ourstate executive secretary for the next four years. Besides her manyactivities at the state and chapter level, she has attended the LeadershipSeminar in Austin, Texas and was a member of the 2008-2010International Constitution Committee. If elected at the 2016International Convention in Nashville, she will become a member of the2016-2020 International Nominations Committee. Thank you, Carol, foryour service, past, present and future. All the people mentioned above have made an impression uponsomeone. Everyone has benefited, whether great or small, from the workof those mentioned. Those who were unable to attend the conferencestill are making impressions upon their chapter membership.Remember each of you is a vital part of your chapter. Each memberneeds to take part in the activities of the chapter. As your new officersare developing the plan for the next year, please consider how you canparticipate, however much time you are able to give.It is hoped that all will take the time to relax and rejuvenate during thesummer. Chapters Need a Projectby Jo Jones, Mu, EEC Chairman

While I was watching the television the other night, I saw a commercial aboutHEIFER.org. I first heard about this organization at a DKG conference severalyears ago. The commercial reminded me that there are many organizations thathelp our young defeat poverty or illness or encourage education to help theworld’s youth make a better world and better life for themselves. At the stateconference, one breakout session was C.R.A.D.L.E.S., which dealt with a community project in ClayCounty. Even though we should support International’s projects (Schools for Africa and SupportingEarly Educators) at some level, on the grander scale we need to choose a project to support that hasmore meaning for our individual chapters. As planning for the meetings for the chapter’s new biennium begins, the chapter’s EEC should thinkof programs to help raise awareness of needs in the community, state, nation, or world. The chaptershould take on a project that supports the program. Chapters can partner with other organizationsin the area in order to put an even larger focus on the project. You can come up with a projectunique to your community—it doesn’t need to be a national organization, such as HEIFER. Chaptersshouldn’t be shy: Let the community know what you are doing. Make your name synonymous withthe project. When you get media coverage, it not only helps the project, but it also helps bring DKGto the forefront. The EEC will have a session at CCOT. Bring ideas to share with other chapters. (Some of yourchapters call the representative for EEC the program chairman or first vice president.)It is time to pick your passion.

Membership In Delta Kappa GammaEvelyn Campbell, Alpha Omega, 2nd Vice

President/Membership ChairHas your chapter tried the new Membership/RecruitmentPlan yet? This plan has been used to revitalize strugglingchapters and to energize healthy chapters. All necessarymaterials and instructions are available on the DKGwebsite Membership Committee page. Check it out! Hereis how the plan works.First, each member is requested to submit the name of a

prospective member on a Prospect Card. These names are then compiled in alist and presented to the membership for a vote. Then, each prospective member is informed by a Prospect Letter that she hasbeen recommended by a current member and approved by the chapter formembership in our Society. This letter includes an invitation to an orientationmeeting.Next, chapters are encouraged to present the Pride in the Big Picture slide show(available for download at www.dkg.org) at an orientation. After a question andanswer session with current members, prospective members are asked to makea decision to accept or decline membership. The current (sponsor) member canthen help to fill out the Chapter Membership Application to obtain informationabout the new member and to serve as a commitment for the prospectivemember.Lastly, the prospective member is invited to the initiation ceremony with theInitiation Letter. Many chapters have used this plan with great success. Let it work for yours!

have completed recommended training, completed programs, and submitted requiredreports in a timely manner. One requirement of a Golden Key chapter is tohave a representative attending CCOT for atleast five of the six workshops presenting:president, secretary, treasurer/financechairman, membership chairman, educationalexcellence/program chairman, andcommunications chairman. The president of the chapter can not completethis job alone. Address UpdatesMarti Daily, State Editor

Four times a year I get an updated list of members and their addresses from International. That list is what ourprinting service uses to mail printed copies of The Hoosier Newsette. I have been actively encouragingmembers to allow us to send the newsletter to an email address instead of a physical one. Through thisprocess, I’ve discovered several members who were dropped from our list because their geographicaladdresses apparently were not correct!Did you know that you can update your own information directly online? You’ll need your membershipnumber (found on your card) and the password (check with your chapter president) to log on. Click on the linkfor “My DKG” to edit your profile. It is VITAL that each member notify International of any changes in her address. At present we have about2000 members, almost 600 of whom have agreed to receive their newsletter via email. We currently have noreliable way to determine that a member is NOT getting her newsletter unless she notifies us. International isworking on a way that chapter treasurers and presidents can access information on their own chaptermembers online, which should be a big help. Stay tuned for more information!
