Back to school brims with new beginnings asthe daily school lunch isassembled.

    Kids develop new tastes

and interests as they growand change during thesummer so by the fall, something as favorite as atrusted peanut butter and

    jelly combo might needan update.

Its time to brighten upthose brown-bag goodies

    with some simplechanges.

Jazz up all your childsfavorites by thinkingthrough bread choicesand complementarycondiments. Slice someapples for that peanutbutter and jelly sandwich

and put them betweenraisin bread or cranberry-

    walnut slices.A plain turkey sandwich

    with plain mayo might

also need a change soconsider the wide rangeof interesting deli meatsavailable today. Try com-bining maple glazed hon-ey turkey or ham withMunster on a soft roll.

Add a smear of cranberryjelly and a sprinkle of sun-flower seeds for crunch.

    Here are more tips for

pepping up lunches andsnacks that travel toschool or are enjoyed athome:

    ADD COLOR ANDTEXTURE

Orange carrot sticksand green grapes brightenthe meal while whole-

wheat pretzels and crack-ers add crunch. Slip green

pepper slices inside awrap or sandwich kidswill eat healthier withoutrealizing it!

    MAKE BROWN BAGLUNCH FUN

Younger children lovethe do-it-yourself aspectof building their own piz-za or cracker stack cre-

ations. Turn fun intohealthy, too, with cubes ofmeat and cheese packedin a lunch bag along withsome low-salt crackers. COURTESY BOARS HEAD/FAMILY FEATURES
