Huddersfield Traders set to benefit from a new event
Huddersfield Town and Club Partner Fired Up have teamed up for a second year to deliver a coaching programme in China. The Huddersfield-based company has continued its commercial partnership with the Club, which saw a number of delegates and Huddersfield Town community coaches visit China last year. The first stage was a week-long business trip to China, during which a delegation featuring the Fired Up Corporation, CBC Computers, Morris & Sons, Approved Food and Stockleys Sweets, visited organ-isations including HSBC in China, electrical giant TCL, the Chinese FA and Chinese Super League football team Guangzhou R&F. The summer camp, which was run over an eight-week period, was the first of its kind for the club in China In total, 161 Chinese youngsters participated in the football element of the camp and were taught a variety of sport based and educational skills by Town’s coaches.
Huddersfield Town’s Commercial Director Sean Jarvis said: Our first year working with Fired Up was fantastic; it couldn’t have gone any better! As a football club we wanted to make a difference to the communities that we visited across the world and Fired Up shared those goals and helped us deliver them. “I am looking forward to working with Richard and his team again over the coming year and hopefully seeing even better results.”

Strategic Review— What are you doing this for ? Are you an owner of an SME?
Has your business been running for five years or so?
Do you use or work with a written business plan?
Finally, are you an innovative business owner?
If you answered yes, you more than likely have a successful business and by planning your business strategy you will have thought about what happens to your business when you move on. You may sell or pass it on to family members, either way – What happens then?
What are you doing this for? Why do you get out of bed in the morning?
Do you want to continue this lifestyle when you retire? Do you want it to be more lavish? Maybe you have ageing parents or children going off to university. Where do these things; family, lifestyle, cars, houses, helping others, the important things to you, where do these come into your plans?
The question is, after you have spent time providing the service that you do, to the standards that you have, what is your business worth and how much do you need to retire on?
How much is that? In monetary terms – isn’t it time you thought about this a little more seriously?
How much do you need to support your planned retirement, have you considered everyone you are responsible for?
What is your business worth?
How much do you need?
If you don’t have the answers to these questions but want them, book on to
our seminar.
A Strategic Review seminar on “What are you doing this for?
”Wednesday 16 July 2014, 9.15am to 10.30am at The John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield.
Beyond the Soundbite Session Ethics of the Food Parcel: What is the
Best Response for Kirklees?
The latest topic for Beyond the Soundbite Session organised by Huddersfield Mission. They will be holding two debates taking place at the beginning of July: 10.30 am, Tuesday 1 July at the Mission 7.30 pm: Thursday 3 July at Dewsbury Town Hall
Did you realise that about 5,500 food parcels were given out by the Welcome Centre during the past year?
This marked an increase of about 2,500 from the previous year. Food poverty is becoming an increasing issue for people in Kirklees, as else-where in the country. What are the underlying issues? What can be done about them? How can we support people so that they don't need to resort to food banks for support? If these issues are of concern to you, please do attend one of the debates and make your voice heard.
Let’s go up t’ Market If you fancy something a bit
The Lawrence Batley Theatre invites you to the world premiere of LOST BOY RACER, written by Huddersfield-born writer Julie Bokowiec. We are delighted to offer you and one guest tickets to see the quirky northern comedy-drama LOST BOY RACER on Thursday 26 June at 7.30pm, as our guests. You will also be served refresh-ments during the interval. LOST BOY RACER tells the tale of Sean Racer, once an energetic wildcat youth hooked on cycling. Now he’s an over-weight, 40-something tax inspector on the brink of a personal crisis. Turning to Claude, an oddball ex-pro cycle mechanic, and encouraged by the wily Linda, a serial tax evader keen to
distract him from taking a closer look at her books, Sean hatches a plan to get his life back on track and on two wheels. He will fulfil a youthful dream; to ride the Tour de France. Albeit on a bike on rollers in his shed. With a touch of blood, sweat and tears, a large dose of fun, some off-the-wall bike action, a love story of sorts and with a set designed entirely from bikes made by metal sculptor Tim Tolkein, great nephew of J.R.R Tolkein, LOST BOY RACER is sure to have something for everyone. LOST BOY RACER will be at the Law-rence Batley Theatre from the Wednes-day 25 – Friday 27 June. The production is part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014,
the official festival in commemoration of the Tour de France Yorkshire Grand Départ.

l have had over 50 comments on Facebook, everyone saying what a great outfit it is. I am privileged to say it was made by Neil at Stagewear Unlimited of Rotherham”.

Member of the Month….. Presenting this month’s member of the
Month….The queen of fundraising
Gaynor Halliday from DEMAND.
1. Please provide a sentence about
your business?
The purpose of the charity DEMAND –
Design & Manufacture for Disability –
is to help people with disabilities live,
work and play better by making by
designing and making bespoke
equipment as well as modifying and
refurbishing existing ‘off the shelf’
items.
1. Why did you join the partnership?
To network with other partnership
members to raise awareness of the
charity and its work in the region.
2. Tell us about your greatest challenge
to date?
DEMAND is one of the lesser known
charities in the area, so building its
profile in order to raise awareness, and
importantly – funds- is the greatest
challenge. But I’m getting there!
3. Give three words to describe your
business?
Compassionate, Innovative, Practical
4. Give us three words about yourself?
Resourceful, Gregarious, Cheerful
5. What do you think are the main chal-
lenges for charities & not for profits?
From a fundraiser’s viewpoint, there are
so many charities doing fantastic work,
and with many people currently facing
decreases in disposable income, poten-
tial donors are more questioning of how
their money is used and want to know
that it benefits the cause for which it
was given. The amazing projects we
carry out at DEMAND with only a small
workforce serve to clearly demonstrate
how we wisely spend our funds.
6. What has been the proudest
moment in your life so far?
Non work related – but successfully au-
ditioning for Huddersfield Choral
Society in September 2000 was my
proudest moment, and as we’ve sung in
some fantastic venues both in UK and
internationally since then, the proud
moments have just kept coming!
7. Have you ever met anyone famous,
please tell us about it (keep it short)?
Can I have a two for one here?
DEMAND was very fortunate in that
Samantha Cameron hosted a Charity
Evening on our behalf at 10 Downing St
on December 10th last year. Not only did
I get to meet her, but also Esther
Rantzen, who is a patron of DEMAND.
She is tiny! Sir John Major is also one of
our patrons, but wasn’t there for some
reason (perhaps had enough of No 10!!)
8. If there was one thing you could
change about your job, what would you
change?
It’s not so much the job I would change,
but it would be easier if there were
fewer other charities all needing funds
and more available money for people to
donate. That said I am endeavouring to
work closely with other local charities
with similar aims but needing different
outcomes, to maximise our impact with-
in limited resources. We have some
great “win – win” plans.
9. If you could live anywhere in the
world where would it be?
Well I live in the Holme Valley, so where
could be nicer? Perhaps on top of a hill
for the views, rather than in the valley
bottom, but there are pros and cons to
both, mainly weather related!
10. If you could give the Partnership
some feedback what would it be?
I would ask that we had more events
that members were willing and able to
attend to increase networking
opportunities for all. A challenge I know!
