PHYLLIS MAY CHANSLER Phyllis May Chansler, 76, of Auburn passed away, Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Bethany House. Visitation is 5-7 pm Monday at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Mrs Chansler was born July 28, 1937 in Detroit, MI. She had been a resident of Auburn. She was raised on Fonda Lake in Brighton, MI where she met her future husband, Bill, at the local roller skating rink. They were married in June 1957 as Bill entered a career in the US Air Force. Mrs Chansler faithfully followed her husband around the world doing what the Lord put her on the planet to do, create a loving and nurturing home for her family and caring for those around her. She just loved to cook and found great joy in discovering new recipes to make for her family and friends. Her children grew up to be happy, healthy and independent with a clear understanding that home isn’t necessarily a specific place, but "home is where Mom is". Mom got back around to doing her own thing as the kids were going through high school in Maryland. She complet- ed her BS degree at Bowie State College after starting 20 years earlier at the University of Michigan. She then began a 20 year career as a Librarian for Anne Arundel County, MD, serving in various locations as the children’s librarian, reading stories and helping the little ones. She also loved the challenge of researching the answers to many eclectic questions she was asked by inquisi- tive patrons. She retired to provide end of life care for her mother, Mamie Strake, before moving to Auburn in 2001. She quickly became a part of Auburn in many ways. As a life-long learner, she especially enjoyed attending Ollie classes with Bill and had a great time with all the wonderful people there. She was an active member of the St Michael’s Bereavement Ministry and enjoyed water aerobics at Auburn University and working out at HealthPlus. She will be missed. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William "Bill" Chansler of Auburn, 5 children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson: daughter, Jennifer Cataleta of Phoenix, AZ, her daughter Autumn (Andy) Fisher of Portland, OR, her son Stuart (Jennna) Cataleta and great-grandson Lukas of Denver, CO; sons, Phillip (Mary-Claire) of Auburn, his daughters Annabelle and Rose-Katherine; Michael of Seattle, WA, his daughter Jessie; Jeffrey (Maria) of Wrightsville Beach, NC, his son Andrew and daughter Alexandra; and Christopher (Wanda), of Trapp, MD, his son Christopher, Jr and daughters Rachel and Klohe; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
