Reasons for choosing this song:

• It has strong and powerful lyrics which tell an emotive and inspiring story

• The lyrics are also easily relatable and transferable to any situation or storyline which was useful when coming up with a narrative for our video

• It is a familiar song to people but the original music video isn’t too well known meaning people can watch our music video without any prior assumptions or images in their head of how they think it should look

• It has a distinct and strong beat to the music which provides a good guide for editing and is effective and engaging to watch

Synopsis• When thinking about the concept for our video we were torn about what the

'fight' or struggle our protagonist would face should be. We didn't want to do the generic getting over a breakup struggle, or similar issues, and instead do something more serious and complex. We have come up with the idea of our protagonists' fight to be an inner struggle with herself. The idea is that she suffers from a dual personality disorder where she is constantly fighting between these different sides of herself.

• The narrative would be solely focused on her and told through her body, emotions and personality/image transitions, as well as how her differing personas deal with similar situations. The culmination of these two opposing sides will come at the end where we reach a resolution of sorts where she becomes at peace with herself.

• The two extreme personalities are a depressed and angry persona, contrasted to a out-going and social, preppy persona. In between these two extremes there is just the protagonists' true self who is struggling to cope with her illness and frustration. These binary opposites will be shown through changes in mise en scene such as lighting and camera angles, as well the costumes and makeup the protagonist wears and her body language and emotions.

Character ProfileName: Sierra Age: 19Birthplace: UKGender: FemaleNationality: BritishHair colour: RedEye colour: BlueOccupation: Singer/songwriter

Our chosen actress for our music video (other than being one of the only people who would get in front of a camera for us) is Imogen Husk as she has experience and is confident in acting. Looks wise she fits our character profile and looks as though she could be the age we are portraying her as.

Issues we may come across is getting our actors to understand the importance of this video and acting sensibly by taking it seriously. As they are doing this as a favour to us they don’t really get anything out of this, but as it is the core aspect of our coursework it is important that they try hard.

We only have one main actor in our video, however at two other points we will need a very minor character for a few frames. Who this will be hasn’t been decided yet but it isn’t crucial as we will just use whoever is in the vicinity as the character isn’t fully revealed.

FashionThroughout our music video the protagonist will display almost three different characters, all of which have their own different characteristics and thus different costumes needed for them to distinguish and showcase their differences. • For the depressed and angry side of her personality the clothing will be mainly

dark colours and heavy clothing such as a hoodie, jeans, boots etc. This will be accompanied by dark, gothic makeup and messy hair that signifies her angry and violent nature.

• At the other end of the spectrum, for the happy and bubbly persona, our artist will wear light and smart clothing, portraying a more preppy and social image. Her makeup will feature lighter colours with colours such as pink creating a more ‘girly’ look

• For the final representation of our artist is that of her ‘true’ self where her hair and makeup will be very natural and minimal. She will wear a simple white dress ,which has connotations of innocence and purity, and will show her real self as she struggles with her two other personalities fighting to be dominant and take over.

Location-PubWhen storyboarding and planning our music video, we came up with the idea of one of the scenes of our artist be filmed in a pub, where she is portraying her sad/violent persona and is drinking alone. Luckily one of us works at a local pub and the landlord gave us full permission to film here. We will have to plan a good time to film as we want the bar to be empty which won’t be possible on Friday, Saturday or Sunday as it is open all day. Therefore it will have to be a weekday before or after the lunch shift.

Props that we may need in this scene will be a shot glass or tumbler, and water inside which will represent alcohol. We will also need a minor character in this scene who acts as the bar tender but we can either use one of us or any staff hanging around who would be happy to do it.

Location- Purton Boat GraveyardThis will be the location for the performance aspect of our video. I think this location would work well for the performance elements of the video as it is quite powerful and I think the connotations of a wide and empty expanse of countryside works harmoniously with the ideas of loneliness and isolation. It is dramatic and unique while also providing text-image-cohesion by tying in with lyrics such as "Like a small boat, in the ocean". It also holds a slightly somber mood due to it's derelict nature and isolated location. This would work very well with the overall storyline and idea we are working with for this song.

Issues we may come across while using this setting as our location is the decision of what time of day we want to film at, which specific parts of this location we will use and then the general health and safety concerns that always need to be a consideration.

All Other LocationsInside House- Quite a few of our scenes takes place inside the house which is good as we can manipulate the surroundings and props to our liking. An issue we may come across, however, is the problem of having enough natural lighting and/or making the surroundings dark-depending on the mise en scene we are aiming for.

Campfire- This may be hard to pull off and throws up problems such as lighting and health and safety. Also, the time of year isn’t ideal as it will be very cold at night. A friend of ours has offered her garden for us to use so now it just comes down to finding a date that suits everyone to film there. We chose this kind of location for a scene as it offers an atmospheric and intimate way of showing our character with friends.

Lookout- This location is the place we are using for the scene where our character drives up to and starts to write. We have chosen it as, if timed correctly, we could get some amazing sunset shots. The problem we face with this location is that it is very open and can be quite busy thus it may be difficult to film without interruptions.

Scheduling our Filming

We have created a filming and editing schedule that begins from this Sunday when we do our first lot of filming. Having this schedule will help us keep on track with when and what we need to be doing and allows us to then contact our actors regarding if they’re free.
