General facts (Slovenia)

• Slovenia has got a very good infrastructure with a modern motorway system. The central points are in Ljubljana and Maribor. Besides, Slovenia has a new toll system.

Roadsystem Germany

- With Germany’s central position in Europe, Germany has a central position concerning transport modern and compact transport networks. The motorway network ranks as the third largest worldwide in length with 13000 kilometres and a 40000 kilometres long federal road.

Roadsystem Slovenia

• There were 39,052 kilometres of public roads in Slovenia at the beginning of 2012. At the end of 2011, there were 39,022 kilometres of public roads. In comparison with 2010 in 2009 the length of state road increased by only 27 kilometres and the length of municipal roads by 100 kilometres. The longest highways are the A1 and the A2. They were finished in 2009. This means that Slovenia has always invested into its infrastructure.

Airports Germany

• The largest German airports are in Frankfurt and Munich. Other major airports include Berlin Tegel, Düsseldorf, Berlin Schönefeld, Hamburg, Cologne/Bonn and Leipzig/ Halle. Both airports in Berlin will be joined to one airport, Berlin Brandenburg airport in 2013.

Air traffic Slovenia

• The biggest international airport is Letalisce Jozeta Pucnika Ljubljana in Brnik. It’s near Ljubljana. Besides, Slovenia has got two smaller airports: Maribor and Portoroz.

Ports in Germany

• In Germany shipping is important too. There are a lot of modern harbours. The biggest port is in Hamburg, other harbours are in Bremerhaven and Kiel.

Seaport Slovenia

- Slovenia has got very important and good trade relations with the seaport Koper. They have connection with the whole world and therefore it’s a transit country for products to Central Europe.

Railways in Germany

• Another part of the road system are the local roads with 91000 kilometres. Germany has also one of the best networks of high speed trains, the inter city express (ICE). Up to 50 000 trains use the 35 000 long railway systems every day.

Railways in Slovenia

- The Slovenian state rail system Slovenske zeleznice has a big route system. The length is 1229 km. The most important are along the Save. From Villach into Austria over Ljubljana to Zagreb. And from Vienna over Graz, Maribor, Ljbljana to Rijeka. Another important railway connection through Slovenia connects Italy and Hungary.

Cooperation between Germany and Slovenia • On 9th May 2012 Angela Merkel invited the prime

minister Janez Janša from Slovenia to Berlin. They talked about the infrastructure and its improvement. Germany is the biggest trading partner of Slovenia and Germany wants to have a better cooperation with the Slovenian railways.

Slovenia ´s system connects Ljubljana with nearly 20 cities in Europe and they have perfect connections with Southern Europe.
