Basics 1

The SIMATIC Information Server is a reporting system that uses the Microsoft Reporting Services and accesses historic data of a process control system. The historic data consists of process values, messages or recipe data. The data source is the Process Historian. The collected data is evaluated and visualized by means of reports.

Reports can have tabular or graphical contents for the evaluation. Various report templates are available for creating reports. The report templates can be configured with two Information Server applications:

● Web application

● Office add-ins for Excel and Word

A configured connection has to exist between the Information Server and the Process Historian in order to create a report.

The connection requires authentication for access to the selected Process Historian server. The Information Server queries the data configured in the report template from the selected Process Historian projects. The appropriate user rights must be set at the project for this purpose.

The access rights are linked to folders in the Information Server. Any user can access the "Public" folders. The "Private" folders can only be accessed by the user currently logged on.

How to open the Information Server 2

The configuration of the Internet Information Server is determined during installation of the Configuration Manager. You specify the HTTP address from which the Information Server is to be accessed. You can choose between two comparable configurations for installation.

To open the Information Server, specify one of the following links in Internet Explorer:

Procedure To configure opening the Information Server, proceed as follows:

1. Open the settings for the "Internet options".

2. Open the "Security" tab.

3. Deactivate the "Protective mode" setting for the current zone.

The "Protected mode" setting is only required on a server operating system.

4. Select the "Local Intranet" or "Trusted Sites" zone and click the "Sites" button.

Add the desired links to the sites.

Note Internet Explorer does not display Information Server

If the Internet Explorer does not display the web application of the Information Server, check the Internet Information Services (IIS), the Reporting Services and the .NET Framework 4.0 Installation.

You must confirm the IIS settings after registration of .NET Framework 4.0.

The "Administration" section is available in the web application if the current user is a member of the "Administrator" role of the Information Server.

You undertake the following tasks in the "Administration" section:

4.2 Connecting a data source

Requirement ● You are logged on to the web application as a user with the "Administrator"

Information Server role.

Note Project archive

You can create folders in order to structure projects. Whether an available project is a PCS 7 project or a BATCH project is indicated in brackets.

Projects with the same name cannot be saved in the same folder.

Procedure 1. Select "Administration" in the navigation area.

2. Click "Connect data source" in the "Projects" tab.

3. Enter the name of the Process Historian PC and of the Process Historian database as follows in the "Data source" text box:

– "Name of the Process Historian PC\Historian"

4. Select the authentication mode.

Authentication takes place via SQL user ID or Windows user ID.

5. Enter your user name and password.

6. Click "Show projects".

The available projects are displayed.

7. Select the project to which you want to establish the connection. Click "Connect".

Result A connection is established with the selected project.

Role management 55.1 Overview

The access rights are linked to roles in the Information Server. Users who have been assigned a role have the rights of the role.

The following roles can be distinguished:

● Administrator

– Unrestricted access

– The "Administration" dashboard is available in the web application.

– Assignment of rights for projects

● Published by

– Uploading report templates

– Creating reports

– Creating subscriptions

● Users

5.2 Assigning a role to a user

Requirement ● The current user of the web application has administrative rights for the Information

Server.

● You are logged on as a user with the "Administrator" Information Server role.

Note Opening the web application locally on the Information Server

If you use an operating system with active user account control, such as Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, it may additionally be necessary to start the web application as an Administrator with advanced rights.

Procedure 1. Open "Administration" in the navigation area.

2. Open the "Role management" tab.

3. In the "Roles" area, select the role which you want to assign to a user.

All users who belong to the selected role are listed in the "Members" area.

4. Select the name of the PC or the domains in which the user is located.

All users who belong to the selected domain are listed under the filter area.

You can read in a user by entering a user name or an initial character in the "Filter" field in a domain environment.

5. Click the green arrow next to the name of the user you want to move to the selected role.

Result A user has the rights of the assigned role.

5.3 Removing a user from a role

Requirement ● The current user of the web application has administrative rights for the Information

Server.

● You are logged on as a user with the "Administrator" Information Server role.

Note Opening the web application locally on the Information Server

If you use an operating system with active user account control, such as Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, it may also be necessary to start the web application as an Administrator with advanced rights.

Procedure 1. Open "Administration" in the navigation area.

2. Open the "Role management" tab.

3. In the "Roles" area, select the role from which you want to remove a user.

All users who belong to the selected role are listed in the "Members" area. An X symbol is located next to the names of the members.

4. Click the X next to the name of the user you want to delete from the role.

Result A user is deleted from the selected role.

Status queries of the Scheduler 6Overview

Use the "Scheduler Status" tab to sort the existing subscriptions according to status and type.

The following subscription states are available:

● New

● Is being executed

● Queued

● Successful

● Failed

If you select "All" in the "Status" drop-down list, all created subscriptions are listed.

The following types of subscriptions are available:

● Report

● Excel report

If you select "All" in the "Type" drop-down list, the subscriptions for all reports are listed.

To update the displayed subscriptions in the table overview, click .

Overview The "Status of the Scheduler" shows a spreadsheet overview of the current jobs. The following table provides an overview of the attributes of the jobs:

Editing e-mail settings 7

You can enter a sender for each e-mail that includes a subscription. You must enter the name of the e-mail server.

Requirement ● You are logged on to the web application as a user with the "Administrator"

Information Server role.

Procedure 1. Select "Administration" in the navigation area.

2. Open the "E-mail settings" tab.

3. Enter the name or the IP address of the e-mail server.

4. Enter the port name.

5. Enter the user name and password.

6. Enter an e-mail address of the sender, if necessary.

7. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Result You have changed the e-mail settings for the Scheduler.

Changing the design 8Requirement

● You are logged on to the web application as a user with the "Administrator" Information Server role.

Note Backing up data

Save all open documents. All open sessions are closed when you change the design. You lose all data that have not been saved. Opening the web application locally on the Information Server

If you use an operating system with active user account control, such as Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, it may also be necessary to start the web application as an Administrator with advanced rights.

Procedure 1. Select "Administration" in the navigation area.

2. Open the "Design" tab.

3. Select the desired design from the drop-down list and click "Apply".

You can choose between the blue standard design and the Siemens design.

Result The design of the web application has been changed.

Connecting the data source with the Office add-ins 9Requirement

● You are connected to the Information Server.

Procedure 1. Start the Office application.

At the initial start after the installation of the Office add-ins, the "Select server" dialog box opens.

2. Enter the name of the PC to which you want to establish a connection. Confirm your selection with "OK".

A logon dialog for authentication opens.

3. Enter the user name and password and confirm with "OK".

The settings for the connected server are still available the next time you open the Office applications.

Result A connection to the Information Server has been established. You can use Office applications to edit the report templates and create reports.
