Information for offer holders: BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

This document contains important information from your course team about what to expect from your studies, including what kit you’ll need to participate in your course. We are really looking forward to welcoming you to BA (Hons) Costume for Performance course and we wish you an incredibly stimulating and productive year. We want to tell you a little more about our plans for the 2021/22 academic year. We look forward to seeing you in both our classrooms and our online sessions this year. We would like to introduce our Course Leader, Jorge Sandoval and let you know we are ready to take you on an incredible journey of creation and experimentation, through industry driven processes and practical skills, as well as design-oriented projects that combine critical thinking with specialist knowledge in the field of costume making and design. It gives us great pleasure to be delivering our academic year 2021/2022 with a robust approach to teaching and learning which combines exciting face-to-face practical sessions in the spaces of UAL, as well as interesting online activities that complement and enrich your practical knowledge. Through exciting online sessions such as lectures, workshops and masterclasses, your on-site practical sessions are enriched with the advice, mentorship and consultancy of industry professionals that now are accessible to us more than ever. Alongside our lecturers and technical team, experienced industry practitioners will work with you through face-to-face practical workshops, physical and online lectures, masterclasses, and industry connected projects. After experiencing a long period of adjustment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students and practitioners in the field of costume have confirmed how resilient, innovative and resourceful we are both as an industry and within our UAL community. We know from experience that things can change very rapidly, so we have plans in place just in case we have to adapt to further restrictions or other events, and we have designed our timetables to make this possible. Your timetable will be published in early September. We are looking forward to welcoming you when term begins.

We recommend waiting until you’re notified you’re eligible to enrol before purchasing your course kit.

Digital kit

The minimum kit list to engage with UAL learning is: 

1. Laptop or desktop computer (Mac or PC) 2. Stable internet connection 3. Ear/headphones which work with your laptop or desktop – preferably with an inbuilt microphone.

4. A standalone webcam if your laptop or desktop does not already have one. 

5. Basic office software. You can download up to five free copies of the Office365 suite.

Adobe Creative Cloud UAL student deal You can access Adobe Creative Cloud programmes for free whilst on site, however you may want flexibility and guaranteed access at other times. The UAL student deal gives you a subscription to the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite, plus 100GB of cloud storage until Saturday 13 August 2022 for a single £48 payment.

You should check your course requirements and information on alternative software before purchasing. If you need access to more than two Adobe Creative Cloud applications or want to access them remotely, it’s worth considering this offer.
