I. Introduction
The Government of Karnataka under the Universities of Agricultural Sciences Act, 2009 and as
amended in 2012, has established five Farm Universities in the state with a view to impart quality agricultural
education in Karnataka State. Among the Universities, oldest is the University of Agricultural Sciences,
Bangalore (UAS, Bangalore) established during 1963 located at Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra (GKVK)
campus, Bengaluru. The University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad (UAS, Dharwad) was established in
1986 to cater to the education, research and extension requirements of the Northern parts of the Karnataka State.
During 2008, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur (UAS, Raichur) was separated out of the
University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad with its headquarter located at Raichur to cater to the farming
needs of the Kalyana Karnataka (Hyderabad Karnataka) (HK) Region of the Karnataka State. The University of
Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot (UHS, Bagalkot), was also established during 2008 with jurisdiction of entire
Karnataka to cater the teaching, research and extension needs in horticultural sector. During 2012, the fifth
University was established at Shivamogga as Keladi Shivappa Nayaka (KSN UAHS) University of Agricultural
and Horticultural Sciences (UAHS, Shivamogga) and this was formed out of UAS, Bangalore and UHS,
Bagalkot.
The five Farm Universities, namely, UAS, Bangalore; UAS, Dharwad; UAS, Raichur; UHS, Bagalkot
and KSN UAHS, Shivamogga have most of the Master’s and Doctoral Degree’s disciplines in common. The
eligibility for which, generally is a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree (respective discipline) from farm science
Universities, respectively.
Each University had a separate schedule of admissions to the Post Graduate Degree programmes for
Master’s Degree till 2014 and for Doctoral Degree till 2016. Thus, admitting candidates for these Post Graduate
Degree programmes separately was causing lot of inconvenience to the candidates and Universities. Hence,
from the year 2015-16, all the five Farm Universities decided to have a Common Post Graduate (PG)
Admission for Master’s Degree courses and UAS, Dharwad conducted the process of the admission. Likewise,
from the academic year 2016-17, it was decided to include Doctoral Degree programme’s also under common
admission process.
The process of common admissions 2021-22 leading to Master’s and Doctoral Degree programmes in
constituent colleges of participating Farm Universities of Karnataka State has been entrusted to UAS,
Bangalore. The detailed procedure for conducting Common Admission to the Master’s and Doctoral Degree
programmes in five Farm Universities of Karnataka State is furnished in this Information Bulletin.
