About COMESA
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is the largest Regional Economic Communities (REC) in Africa. It brings together 21-Member States with a population of 560 million, and a combined GDP of over US$ 722 billion. Established in 1994, COMESA envisions a fully integrated, internationally competitive REC with high standards of living for all its people. Notable progress has been recorded in policy harmonisation, trade and investment liberalization, infrastructure development for better physical interconnectivity, agriculture and food security, social development among others..
COMESA Member States are: Burundi, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Infrastructure and Industry Technical and Ministerial Meetings taking place in
Nairobi, Kenya from 17 – 21 June 2019.

6. VISA AND CUSTOMS FORMALITIES Delegates are advised to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in
their resident/boarding countries to get a Visa.
However, every delegate is asked to communicate in advance the list of persons with their contact numbers, the country of origin, the date of issue and validity of their passports for the necessary facilitation. The type of the passport usedmust be specified. Send to [email protected] and [email protected]
All participants are reminded to have their Yellow Fever Vaccination card available.

8. SECURITY AND ACCREDITATION The Government of Kenya is in charge of the security of delegates during their
stay in Nairobi.
Special brochures will also be issued to the coordinating Ministers of COMESA/heads of delegations to guarantee them access to all places and events. All other delegates and members of the press will receive security badges to allow them access to the Conference Center and other chosen places.
Badges are normative and must, for security reasons, be worn permanently by the delegates.

9. TRANSPORT For the Ministers: COMESA will provide a vehicle for the Minister.
For the delegates and other participants:
A bus hired by COMESA will assure movements to and from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Alternatively, delegates may opt to use local taxis or Uber which is readily available at the JKIA. The charge from the JKIA to the KSMS is approx. USD$10.
10. ACCOMMODATION The Government of Kenya will not accommodate Ministers and delegates.
A list of recommended hotels suitable for Ministers and other delegates has been provided in this booklet. A special rate has been offered by the Kenya School of Monetary Studies of US$50 per person per night. Delegates are encouraged to stay at the KSMS as it is also the venue for the meetings.
11. MEDIA Journalists will be invited to cover the opening and closing sessions of the
meetings.
12. HEALTH CENTERS A Health Center will be available at the conference center to attend to all
cases that may arise.
13. DEPARTURES COMESA working with the Government of Kenya will make necessary
arrangements for the Minister, Heads of Delegation as well as other delegates to be transported to the airport on time.
To avoid possible constraints, each delegation is invited to provide at the right time, to the welcoming, committee all the necessary information concerning the hour,dateandflightdetailsofthedepartureofMinistersandotherdelegates.

15. GENERAL INFORMATIONTIMETime in Nairobi is at +3 GMT
Currencies and Bank ServicesThe local currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shillings (KSH)
1 USD is equal to 100 KSH.
Delegates can change their money either from Banks or Bureau de change and hotels. Banks and Bureau de Change are open from 9h 00 to 12h 00 and 14h 00 to 15h00
Mobile BankingMobile banking is available in Nairobi
Electric CurrentThe electric voltage used in Kenya is 220 volts
CommunicationsCommunications facilities (local and international telephone calls, telephones, fax, and internet) are available in hotels on commercial tariffs.
Concerning mobile phones, Kenya has a lot of mobile service provider companies (Safaricom, Airtel, MTN, Orange) whose sim cards and recharges are available in shops in town.
14. CLIMATE: Nairobi Weather June is the start of cold season in Kenya. The East African country has
different landscapes which range from dry savannahs to national parks and beaches. This means that the weather is different depending on where you go, but most of the country has two wet seasons across the year.
Averages
The average temperature in the capital, Nairobi, is 18ºC in June, with highs of 23ºC and lows of 12ºC.
