N ew technology enabling also "transverse" modelling of sheet metalhas opened new opportunities to thedesigners. When planning the Trimoformroofing the following fundamental startingpoints have been taken into account:

    - Universal character of a form with a possibility of adjustment to different environment,

    - Unique form being different from roofingtypes of other European producers.

Trimoform is actually a hybrid of variousroofing typologies and therefore it merges

well into various environments (Alpine,Mediterranean, Pannonia, etc.). Uniquecharacter and recognition have been mainlyachieved by the introduction of a dense gridthat is turned as a mirror. The evident difference in height between the highestand lowest part emphasises the playfulcharacter of the complete texture. This solution becomes specially visible in lightsince the game of light and shadows

constantly draws and slightly changes theappearance of the roofing. The innovativesolution of applying rock wool and thedimension adjusted to a pallet transportationsystem represents the quality and advan-tage of Trimoform. Many new elements produced in a series that reduced the possibility of defects in the manufacture ofindividual details in the finished roofinghave been introduced in comparison withTPO - dom. Least, but not last, they have a strong impact on the aesthetic appear-ance of the roofing.

    Prof. Vladimir Pezdirc (Designer)

Since ancient history a roof above the head has been one of the fun-damental needs of a man. If the roof mainly represented a way ofsurvival in ancient history it has developed through the history dueto new materials, technologies and forms and has always gained anew appearance. It has become an increasingly important elementof architecture and the environment in the broadest sense of theword. Slovenia is a crossroads of cultures and natural environment, which reflects in the typology of the architecture of living places.

    Dear friends of steel!

Beds of tulips and other flowers rocking usinto spring dreams are a warm welcome tospring. They really cheer us up with theirbright colours after long winter months.Clever and original ideas for the decorationof flowers and arrangement of gardens canproduce real works of art.

In the present Informa we would like to present a spirit of spring, but mostly creativity. Each building shown represents balanceamong knowledge, imagination and inven-tiveness on one hand and possibility andunderstanding on the other. But not only thebalance. It means a lot more. It is a surplusenabling us to climb above the average. Itis the opposite of the monotonous meaningthat there is still a lot to be done in thefuture.

Possibilities in this fast developing world areendless. Space or a building will determinequality of human activities and details willbe included in life of an individual. So it isthe people who approve the details, forms, etc.

And we are again at the beginning of ourstory. It is up to us how we start implementingwishes and achieving success.

  • In recent years this architectural topichas developed from anonymity andeven from the negative character; it has become an important and unavoid-able factor of designing architecturalenvironment of modern Slovene towns.Due to this fact it is of vital importance to consider the optimal architectural solutions and construction - technicalapproaches that may contribute to theirquality merging into the environment. This topic includes also adequate selection of the used materials and staticstructure. The surface, functionality andprogramme concept of shopping centresrequire the most flexible and ultra lightstructure materials that are attractive orenable sufficiently attractive dialoguebetween the environment and the architect. These are buildings that have toexpress the temporary character (sincetheir contents change constantly andadjust to the changes in the society), reliability and functional character of a building which does not only offerbrand names in its interior, but has alsobecome a brand name "per se".The shopping centre "SUPERNOVA" in Koper fulfils all the above-mentionedcriteria and answers several of the questions posed. It is a good example of excellent use and selection of modernmaterials (specially eye-catching is thesteel) and structural and designers' solutions. The floor of the centre, largespans and surfaces as well as dynamicloading (parking places on the roof),wind, use of a composite structure, speedand accuracy of the performance andassembly deserve special attention. An almost symbolically determined archi-tectural and construction element:

    4

Large shopping centres have recently become a very important topicin the architecture. A high number of these buildings not only inSlovenia, but also in other countries poses questions about themethod, architectural and technical tools of their quality merging inmodern urban and suburban environments.

    SUPERNOVA

    Complete solutionComplete solution

a panoramic screen with its perforatedand slightly diversified steel structurefaces almost all of the mentioned technicaland architectural challenges that theshopping centre "SUPERNOVA" has met. This screen establishes a symbolic dialogue with the Karst strong wind, thecoastal sky and the evergreen plants of awinter garden. It is simultaneously lightand stable, open (from the interior) andclosed (from the exterior), uniform andexpressive; a connecting bridge empha-sises all advantages of steel: bridging oflarge spans, lightness of the structure andits reliability. An advertising tower provesthat steel is the only material that canreach such great emphasis in height onthis ground and under such wind loading, naturally, under the consideration of economic justification. The economic justification of shopping centres becomesmost evident in the speed of construction(only a short period of time can pass from

the first investment into a building to itsuse), in the price of subsequent additionalbuilding and changes in shops or multi-functional character of the building. Alsoin case of such buildings steel has playedan irreplaceable role - it has become a reference model for the majority of thefuture shopping centres and similar publicbuildings.

  • T he project is based on the criteria offlexible development of productionunits (modular concept), quick andadjustable up-grade of new capacities (theinfrastructure built), fast and flexible adjustment of the existing capacities to thechanges and adjustments to the existingproduction capacities and the situation.

The concept of the buildings is based on a load-bearing steel structure, adjusted tothe basic module and the wainscot (roofand facade), dictating the modular system.

The decision on the selection of Trimo fire-resistant roof and facade panels hasdepended on the basic structural conditions(modularity and flexibility), adequate qualityof panels that corresponds to the require-ments of structural criteria, on the aestheticalappearance of panels or the complete

The structure of the new pharmaceutical complex Pharma - Park requiresconstruction in several stages, lasting 5 or more years. Preparations relating to the project were in progress in 2000, and the constructionbegan in 2001. New technology in this production line foresees developmentof basic raw materials that will enable further development of the production, use of these materials and their processing in various production processes and lines.

facade and fire-resistance of panels (supported by the AEAI certificate). Co-operation with the architect, selectedcontractors and full technical support ofTrimo resulted in a new performance of a facade and flat roof without inclinationhaving a membrane insulation that is fixeddirectly on Trimo panels.

Facades are performed to enable optionalfixing of glazed elements and filled facadeelements. Fixing of a facade is carried outin a vertical direction by use of standardprofiles for fixing of facade elements.Application of additional elements forpanel fixing enables flexible use of Trimopanels in a thickness of 100 mm, 120 mmand 150 mm. The facade is carried out bycovering profiles; it is flattened from theexternal side and window elements are inthe same level as the panels. The differencein thickness of facade elements on the innerside is levelled by vertical strengthening profiles that are fixed on the load-bearingsteel structure.

The flat roof performance on the buildingmentioned is a novelty in Switzerland. Roofsare carried out by Trimo panels that aresmooth from both sides. A synthetic membrane (covering) is fixed on the paneltopside, which gives panels the load bearingcapacity. In accordance with the proposalof Trimo the roof smooth panels are fixed inthe load-bearing structure only from the

    Trimo in architectureTrimo in architecture

bottom - inner side by means of special fixingprofiles made of bent thick sheet metal.

The concept and performance of facadesand roof have proved to be good solutionsin terms of aesthetics as well as in terms ofassembly, but mainly as an effective andsimple fixing method.

TOKO-DomaleThe facility for the production and sales activity of the company TOKOfrom Domale was completed in 1976. Due to the termination of operationon this location the facility has got new owners and new purpose of use.It has become a sports-recreational and sales facility.

    Trimo in architectureTrimo in architecture

W ith respect to the new function ofthe facility and obsolescence ofsome old materials on the facadethe reconstruction of the complete facilityhad to start. A special emphasis was placedon the facade form with the purpose topoint our new functionality and appear-ance of the facility in the environment byvisual effects and quality material under theconsideration of specific position in the centreof Domale. Elements from a wide salesrange of Trimo fire-resistant facade panelshave been selected.

The fundamental casing of the facility hasnot been changed with respect to the pre-liminary facility form during the construction. The selected facade with an adequate

sub-construction and additional strengtheninghas enabled "putting of a shell" on the oldfacade. Specially demanding was the performance of round elements with minordiameters and performance of suitablecover flashings.

The selected facade colours of the facilityrange from silver to dark grey shades whichshall emphasise the solid character of thefacility and quality technical performanceof inner programmes.

This reconstruction of the facility and use of new material have contributed to accen-tuation of town planning in Domale.

  • T he project is based on solutions utilizinglarge-span linear structures (82 m) andprovides unique character to the facility.Structures of this type have been used in themajority of key Olympic facilities.

An innovative and interesting solution is alsoprovided by the exposed and sloped reinforced columns consisting of elements of frames that support the grandstands andthus ensure good field of vision and optimised grandstand width. The columnsbear the system of light steel tubes constitutingthe saddle-shaped linear roof structure.

The new hall is compliant with all standardsof international sports federations concerningteam games like basketball, volleyball, andhandball. The facility has 4,500 permanentseats arranged on two symmetrical grand-stands. Movable sectors are addeddepending on the discipline.

    8

Trimo has provided a light casing for thefacade - FTV 100 panels. They serve as aesthetic casing elements and material providing protection against fire.

The cooperation with Archi-Line as a company whose specialization includesdesigning sports facilities gives us a chanceto develop in the market sector of sportsfacilities.

INTEGRA MostarThe idea of the business building Integra has been developed as a mixture of ideas, very different opinions, ambitious plans and greatefforts of a creative project team in charge of the architectural and construction works.

    Trimo in architectureTrimo in architecture

T he building is located in the most beautiful historic part of Mostar, BIH.Stone with its cold and dignified modern architecture presents a striking contrast when compared to the environmentand is a characteristic of the region in termsof construction.

A suspended, ventilated aluminium andglazed facade made in accordance withthe Schueco systems is performed in the circular central part.

The complete building is wainscoted by theTrimoterm FTV-60 facade panels that arefixed on an adequate sub-construction.Panels painted in RAL 9006 are placed horizontally by omega profiles for invisiblefixing. Vertically placed panels are in RAL9007.

Special attraction is achieved by the selectedarrangement of facade openings, which

challenges attention by a combination ofmodern materials, without any superfluousdetails in the construction.

5,600 m2 of useful surface in the building isdivided into seven storeys. There are parking places in the underground, officeson the ground floor and offices of majorcompanies are located on the remainingstoreys. The concept of the structure enablesuninterrupted changes in the arrangementof partition walls and free organisation ofoffices, which results in a slightly differentarrangement. Transparency of the workingenvironment is ranked first. Simultaneousconnection of all parts of the building in a unit is enabled due to a central staircaseand two lifts.

This architectural plan is a product of a corner building concept on the crossroadsof two roads, which symbolise two oppositearchitectural styles visible on this location.

The architecture of the building is radical, recognisable and unique in its environment.
