A regenerative blower is an economic and effective alternative to compressed air

One of the most widely used mechanisms for drying packages in the industry is compressed air, that is, electric power as pneumatic pressure. Using compressed air establishes a ratio equivalent to six to eight electric energy units for the generation of one compressed air energy unit. Today, approximately 5 billion tons of air are compressed every year throughout the planet, causing a 400-billion-kWh consumption, costing 20 billion dollars. -One of Spraying Systems’s regenerative blower success cases is a Brazilian subsidiary of a multinational beverage company. When it still used compressed air with 12mm pneumatic hoses, 6 bar work pressure, 24-hour-a-day production, 320 operation days per year, with a kW/h cost of R$ 0.28, the yearly electric power cost was R$ 125 thousand, considering just this line. By replacing the hoses with a 20HP blower assembly, the yearly electric power cost dropped to R$ 37.5 thousand. The 70% reduction in consumption enabled PAYBACK within nine months’ time.

It is worth reminding that the beverage industry requires an accurate drying of packages at those spots where it is necessary to mark lot data, manufacturing and expiration dates for tracking units manufactured on each production site by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service. It is essential that the area where the Sicobe (‘Sistema de Controle de Produção de Bebidas’ – Beverage Production Control System) information will be printed is properly dry. Therefore, the regenerative blower avoids the common rework on those lines using compressed air and allows the company to increase its productivity.

If your company uses compressed air, Spraying Systems team is available to conduct an assessment visit and provide a report estimating the gains you may have by replacing compressed air with a regenerative blower.
