WHAT IS KING OF THE ALPS

The King of the Alps is an extreme kayak

race that tests skill, stamina, endurance

and speed. The race also became the

Extreme kayak European championship in

its fourth year of running. The very first

King of the Alps managed to attract 50

athletes from 6 different nations. In 2014

there were over 60 athletes from 10

different nations pulling in competitors

from as far as Chile. Due to demand, for

the first time we also added a

junior’s category.

The event takes place on the white waters

of the Passirio River, and in 2015 canoeists

will once again be battling the waves and

the force of the river. Paddles will clash on

the water to see who will be crowned king

and Queen of the Alps, and of course, the

European Champion.

We are very proud and content, that in

only a few years, we have managed to

make our mark in the kayaking world by

becoming an important event on the

international circuit.

THE COMPETITION

The first part consists of a 6,5km marathon,

starting with a multi-line class IV at Quellenhof

and finishing at Riffiano. It is the longest

extreme kayak race in Europe, and really tests

the Athletes River reading ability, stamina and

endurance. Only the 16 fastest from the

marathon can go through to the final.

The second part is the final, a much shorter,

faster and more technical part of the Passerio

River. This section is situated at the town of

Mosos directly opposite the Enerpass

hydroelectric station where the passerio meets

the mighty falls of Stieber. The finalists then

have a head to head time trials on one of the

most difficult extreme kayak courses. For this

motive ´King of the Alps` is attracting more and

more athletes from around the world. Even the

athletes that miss out on the top 16 places can

still be right next to the action on the final

section, with ample viewing spots from both

sides of the river.

MEDIA AWARENESS

Reports and articles in assorted press releases

which include the largest kayak and canoe

magazine of the world have praised this

events as a high priority event in the kayak

scene. Last year we were represented in three

editions of the “Kayak Session” magazine:

before the race, after the race and in the

form of an article in magazine 51 together

with pictures in the "focus section". In

addition, several articles and advertisements

were also ran on the Kayak Session website

and distributed in their newsletter. Further to

this, the German “Kanu Magazine” also

published an article about this event. In 2015,

the German “Kayak magazine” will also

become an additional media partner. The

publishing house of “Kayak Magazine” is also

responsible for publishing the German

“Trekking” and “Bike & Travel” magazines. The

organizers of the event are deliberately and

consistently going a new way with this event

and consciously opening the "King of the

Alps" to more spectators and visitors. The

cooperation with “Kayak Session” will

definitely continue, primarily for the purpose

of using this platform as information about

the event and for advertising.
