About Anthony Veder Group: Anthony Veder was established in 1937 as a ship-owner and port agent.
Ever since acquiring its first gas tanker in 1969, the company has been
involved in gas shipping. As an integrated shipping company, it aims to
develop long-term customer relationships by offering a safe, reliable
and flexible service through a wide range of high quality gas carriers.
The group is involved in all segments of the gas market, from CO2 to
ethylene and LPG to LNG. Furthermore, it provides comprehensive and
efficient technical and commercial ship management services to third
parties. www.anthonyveder.com
About Cryonorm Systems: Cryonorm Systems is part of the Cryonorm consortium and is a leading
designer and installer of turn-key small and medium LNG Systems. The
LNG systems are developed to meet the international standards as well
as the applicable regulations. Our scope ranges from project design,
manufacturing and detailed engineering to installation and
commissioning of complete LNG systems for the increasing market of
small and mid scale LNG . www.cryonormsystems.com
Cryonorm Systems receives order to install the LNG fuel system on two gas
carriers of Anthony Veder.
The order consists of a turn key LNG fuel system for two gas tankers. Cryonorm Systems will engineer, produce and
supervise the installation of the LNG system. Anthony Veder and Cryonorm Systems reached an agreement to partner in
this important project. “This is a milestone for both companies” says Jos Glorie, business development director at
Cryonorm Systems.

The first inland ship in the world in
operation
What made it a reality?
The Cryonorm consortium
The hurdles/challenges with regards to
small scale LNG systems for inland ships
The Cryonorm consortium
Initially, the saving on fuel costs were estimated at 20 to 25%. The reality after 9 months is between 25 and 30% The pay back time for the installation was estimated on 3 to 6 years (depending on the running time of the ship) The reality after 9 months is between 2 and 4 years
The economic feasability
The Cryonorm consortium
The only solution for this issue was and still is trucking of LNG. LNG can be trucked in from UK, Scandinavia, Belgium or Spain. Currently, the LNG is trucked in from Zeebrugge, Belgium. Still, this remains an issue since the flexibility of supply is not optimum.
Availability of LNG
The Cryonorm consortium
Rotterdam Harbor did not give permission initially. First bunkering was done with a lot of safety precautions and in the presence of more then 20 people. Bunkering today is very simple and a straight forward operation. Cryonorm systems made the HAZOP study for bunkering + procedure.
Bunkering of LNG
The Cryonorm consortium
Currently it is forbidden to use LNG for inland ships. The correct permits (derogations) can be obtained. Needed documents are: Certificate of investigation following rules of investigation for inland ships on the Rheine (directive 2006/87/EC) Certificate of approval (ADN) These certificates can be obtained under the following rules • Central commission for the Rheine to give recommendation per ship. • The ship needs to have a new technical feature. • The needed safety precautions need to be taken. • Only for test purposes and with limitation in time. Argonon is build under Lloyd classification. Cryonorm systems provided the needed assistance to get the classification.
Permission to build the ship

Pre - engineering done by Cryonorm Systems starts with the information on flow of natural gas to the engine Pressure of the natural gas to the engine Autonomy of the ship (time between bunkering) After this, in close cooperation with owner and shipyard, Cryonorm systems performs a pre – engineering Mainly looking for space on the ship.
Pre engineering of the LNG system
The Cryonorm consortium
Detailed engineering was performed on storage, vaporization control system. safety system Project execution plan is made. Process Flow diagram made P&ID made – list of components Close relation was kept with classification is kept. Kick off meeting with stakeholders included.
Engineering of the LNG system

Manufacturing drawings made. Pre manufacturing of the LNG system. Installation on board. Connection to the steering house Connection to the engine room
Installation of the LNG system
The Cryonorm consortium
All challenges/hurdles have been overcome in order to put LNG systems in the market. Economical and environmental drivers of the industry are making the choice for small and mid scale LNG Classification agencies are taking their responsibility to make sure that maritime and land based LNG systems can be put in operation. In order to create a legal framework, the correct standards and rules need to be further developed by official instances. Preferable on a global basis. Cryonorm Systems has experience with maritime and land based LNG systems for the supply of natural gas to various applications
