PRESENTED BY GEOFF KRIGE, PhD Geoff has over 40 years' experience across a broad spectrum of structural engineering. He has worked at Senior Design Engineer level for a large steel construction contractor, as an associate professor of structural engineering at a major university, as principal civil and structural engineer in the mining industry, as a partner with WAH and currently as Director of GK Structural Consulting. His specific competencies are in steel design, structural vibration, forensic structural engineering and design of the structures associated with mine shafts, underground operations and materials handling machinery. His experience in these areas has included preparation of specifications, design, review of design and structural inspection and monitoring. ACCREDITION PENDING: 2 CPD POINTS INDUSTRIAL VIBRATION ANALYSIS COURSE The course deals with practical application of vibration analysis and design of industrial structural, rather than focusing on in-depth mathematical theories. The course will suit Structural Engineers who are, or would like to become, involved in the design of industrial structures supporting vibrating equipment and who may be called on to perform measurements and problem solving on existing structures. The course takes place online, over 6 x 2 hour Zoom sessions. Delegates will have the opportunity to submit questions both during sessions, and between sessions via email. COURSE OUTLINE Session 1: Basic concepts of vibration: General Concepts, Single Degree of Freedom, Vibration Response, Multi Degree of Freedom, Vibration Response and Units Session 2: Vibration loads: Machines, Specifiers of loads, Calculating Machine Loads, Human Loads and Impact Loads Session 3: Practical Modelling and Analysis: General, Modelling the Structure, Analysis Issues, Interpreting the Output Session 4: Limits to vibration: General, Human Tolerance, Machine Tolerance, Agree before the fight, Damage to finishes, Fatigue Session 5: Special Vibration topics: Wind vibration, Seismic Design and Soil-Structure Interaction and Concrete Foundation Blocks Session 6: Measuring Vibration and Remedial Actions Measuring Equipment, Measuring Procedures, Pitfalls to Avoid, Interpretation Measurements, Appropriate Remedial Actions Cost incl VAT: R9 425 (Members) R10 725 (Non-Members) FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: [email protected] Tel: (011) 726 6111
