Industrial ThermometersDetails of Design

CasingsAluminum, V-shaped, completely pol-ished, gold-colored anodized (or silver-colored upon request). Numerals ofreading scale printed on the right side.Printing black-colored for easy readability.Adjustable to any desired viewing positionand locked by brass nut, spanner size 22mm. Angle thermometers (90 degrees)have a grooved adapter piece with setscrew. Advantage: When mounting thethermometer, it is not necessary to turnthe casing.

Glass Inserts (Capillaries)Capillary tube of solid glass, bar-shaped,prismatic (optic enlargement of the col-umn), diameter approx. 6mm, oval open-ing, with yellow background for mercuryand white background for blue fluid col-umn. Calibration is deeply burnt, in black, thus being absolutely resistant. The maingraduations, which correspond with theprinting on the casing, are especiallyclearly outlined.

Capillary FluidFor standard executions from -60° to+200° C, blue fluid and red fluid, respecti-vely, for -60° C (code "Fu"). For tempera-tures of more than +200° C, only mercurycolumns (code "Hg") are possible. Uponrequest, thermometers can be deliveredwith mercury filling from -30° C onwards.

Immersion Tubes (Pockets)As a standard, manufactured of brass(code "Ms") for temperatures up to 300°C, for temperatures of more than 300° Cmade of steel (Code "St"). Seawaterresistant alloys are available upon request(special alloy SoMs 59, SoMs 76 or"CuNiSOFe"). For corrosive alkalis oracids, material 1.4571 (stainless steel) orother resistant kinds of steel are available. With immersion tube type "B", diameter is10 mm, thickness 1 mm.

AccuracyAbout 1 % of maximum scale value, forthermometers with mercury column. Theaccuracy of thermometers with an alco-holic fluid meets DIN 16 195 requirementsand, consequently, corresponds with therequirements for local readingthermometers.

SIKA ThermometersRevolving angle type

This original SIKA thermometer designpermits the casing including insert to beturned by 360 degrees, after installa-

tion, so it can be read from any direction. This special SIKA thermometer type willbe applied when installation conditions

do not permit using a normal angle-typethermometer which is read from the front.

SIKA ThermometersImmersion Tube Type "Dc", Union nut M 24x1, 5Casing 200x36 mm • gold-colored anodizedDIN 1 6 1 8 9 F

On principle, thermometers of type "Dc" are supplied with a steel tube of dia. 6. 5mm for the lower part of the capillary, and which fits into protecting tubes with 7 mmbore, in order to protect the capillary and to prevent glass particles to penetrate intothe bore of the protecting tube if glass breakage occurs.

Immersion tubes of all right-angled thermometers are manufactured with a groovedadapter piece on top, which is installed in the casing and kept in its place by a setscrew. Advantage: Immersion tube can be installed independently of thermometercasing. No turning of thermometer casing is necessary on installation.

Table of Materials

The manufacture of SIKA protecting tubes is regularly controlled by theTÜV Hessen" (technical inspection service) and meets the requirementsof AD/HP O.Please inquire if you need protecting tubes made of other materials, with flange connection or PTFEcoating. Upon request, each protecting tube can be put to a pressure test or test for surface cracks,at extra charge; a Certificate DIN 50049-3.1.B/EN 10204 will be supplied.

1) Only with Works Certificate DIN 50049/2.1 or 2.2 is possible. 2) Hexagon Ms 58/tube SoMs 76 or MS63 brazed.

Select the most suitable material for your application, Please see FNE and VDE because some materials may be precluded from certainapplication.

SIKA protecting tubes can be supplied with following Certificates, at extra charge:

Installation Instructions

According to specifications of the Institute of German Engineers. Weld-in protecting tubes (DIN 43 763, DIN 16179) tobe welded so that cylindrical part does not enter into medium to be measured or into cross section of conduit.

This catalogue offers different types of protecting tubes whichprotect SIKA thermometers against hazards of mechanical, thermal or chemical nature. The protecting tubes permit removalor installation of thermometers during operation.

Special attention is drawn to the fact that all SIKAthermometers with immersions tubes “B” (threaded socketwith integral hexagonal nut” are adjusted at completeimmersion length. These immersion tubes must be totallyimmersed in the medium to be measured. Should this not bepossible, and less than full immersion depth has to used, these special conditions have to be specified to avoidinaccurate reading.

For best results, thermometers with at least 63 mmimmersion tubes are recommended. On pipe conduits ofless than 100 mm dia., the whole width of conduit should beused. On bigger sizes, reaching the center of the conduit issufficient.
