Industrial Automation is defined by the Automation Federation as "the creation and application of technology to monitor and control the production and delivery of products and services."

Automation reduces the man power required to complete the process and also saves time.

In many areas of manufacturing automation is necessary where a labour or a worker could not work or the conditions for a human to work is not available.

Eg: Processes requiring very high accuracy such as manufacturing of microprocessors, areas involving radiation, etc.,

1. To increase labor productivity2. To reduce labor cost3. To overcome the effects of labor shortages4. To reduce or remove routine manual and clerical

tasks5. To improve worker safety6. To improve product quality7. To reduce manufacturing lead time8. To accomplish what cannot be done manually

It is feasible in India, but it requires a huge amount of capital to be invested.

At present a full scale automation is not possible in India.

But it may take some time to change from the manpower mode to complete automation. However most of Indian industries are automised to a certain level in

the past years.

Effects on current system…It will increase the grade of Indian industries

and will help them to cope up with the other advanced industries worldwide.

It will increase the quality of Indian products and make them reliable.

Will cause a large scale unemployment among the labors who previously did the robots’ work.

India is one of the fastest growing economies among the Asian emerging markets, yet the number of automated units is still low.

The reason is that India is still considered as a low wage country and the automation process is not often economical.

The Indian automation industry has bright prospects as Indian markets are slowly feeling the need for automation.

The growing awareness among Indian consumers will lead the process and manufacturing industry to adopt the right mix of technologies, leading to a considerable proportion of automation in the manufacturing process.
