Page 2: Induction Heating at DownHole

A Power Conditioning Unit (PCU) is requiredto set and control reservoir temperature, logdownhole temperatures, pressure and other operating information.

MxL Induction Heating Systemcomponents:

An offset Tubing Hanger and Feed Through are requiredto connect the surface power cables to the downholeESP cable and provide a pressure seal between the annulus and atmosphere.

Page 3: Induction Heating at DownHole

ESP Cable is banded to the tubing string fromthe feed through to the Side Outlet Sub. A splice is required at each end.

A Side Outlet Sub is required to transition the ESP cablefrom the side of the tubing to the connection at the Induction Heater. The pump suction pups are installed above the SoSub.

Page 4: Induction Heating at DownHole

The Induction Heater consists of inductors in smooth wall steel casing togetherwith temperature sensors and a bottom hole pressure sensor. The picture shows a system in the shop hooked up with jumper wires for testing and calibration.

The operatingdata are stored and may be downloaded to the floppy disk,SD card or transferred, in realtime, over a serial radio link.

A wellhead electricalfeed through thatseals the annulusmust be provided

A BIW well head penetrator with flat cable on the left, protective mesh over the O-ring seals and round cable on the right is shown in the above photo.

The photo at the left shows a BIW penetrator about to be installed in an offset tubing hanger.

Page 10: Induction Heating at DownHole

The Genco penetrator, in some cases, may be installed in a regular tubing hanger

A pack-off style tubing hangermay be used as a feed throughto deliver electricity to the Induction Heater

An electrical port is provided, at the end of eachjoint of inductor, for connection of wires.

The instrument circuit board andpressure sensor are housed in the“bullnose” at the end of the tool.

Page 14: Induction Heating at DownHole

The temperatures and bottom holepressure signals are collected andthen transmitted to the PCU overthe ESP cable during delivery of power to the tool. Real time closedloop control of downhole temperatureis provided from the PCU.
