This set of Thermal Weapon Sights combines rugged, lightweight, modular construction with superior thermal imaging technology to give today’s Warfighter the capability to shoot equally well in day or night and in smoke or fog, significantly increasing survivability and lethality margins on the battlefield. At the center of the DRS IWS family is decades of experience in the uncooled infrared (IR) weapon systems field. DRS uses a high sensitivity vanadium oxide (VOx) focal plane array (FPA). The IR FPA requires no visible light to operate and will not shut down or bloom when hit by direct light. Also, its use cannot be detected, since it operates silently and emits minimal heat and radio frequency (RF) energy. The DRS IWS family (Light, Medium, and Heavy) has 1x to 3x magnification when used in Stand alone mode. It also is constructed to function as a night vision system when mounted in front of various qualified weapons day vision optic (DVO) sights. This eliminates the need for re-bore sighting as the DVO accuracy is undisturbed. Also, the IWS design allows the sights to be used as a stand-alone TWS without a DVO and as a hand- held thermal imager. • Enables combat forces to acquire and engage targets at ranges up to 2,200 meters while providing over 26° FOV with the Light sight, for maximum situational awareness. • Infrared imaging device that cuts through all weather and battlefield obscurants to deliver clear surveillance imagery and effective day and night targeting. • A light-weight uncooled thermal sight that survives weapon and transportation shock. When used in the Clip on mode, it preserves the accuracy of many Direct View Optics (DVO) used in today’s battlefield. • Operates in temperatures from -40°C to +49°C. • DRS has delivered over 75,000 TWS’ to U.S. Forces. INCREASING SURVIVABILITY — WEAPON MOUNTED OR HANDHELD
The DRS family of Individual Weapon Sights (IWS) is an advanced infrared weapon sight lineup, based on equipment developed by DRS for the US Army.
The IR FPA requires no visible light to operate and will not
shut down or bloom when hit by direct light.
This eliminates the need for re-bore sighting as the DVO accuracy is
undisturbed. Also, the IWS design allows the sights to be used as a stand-alone TWS without a DVO and as a hand-held thermal imager.
Forces.
