SLO assessment
www.sloeval.com Web site by Cristian Racataian for indirect data collection
• Assessment is an integral part of our teaching function and needs to be completed on a regular basis (at least once a year) for each course that is taught
• What we assess is Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for a course and Program Learning Outcomes for each program. This PowerPoint is on how to do and report assessment for SLOs.
• Assessment can be indirect (reported by students) and direct (using Projects and more).
• This PowerPoint shows how to handle indirect assessments for SLOs easily.

Overall Process • Add the following items to the Indirect assessment site at
www.sloeval.com : – Discipline name, courses, SLOs only once – Sections for each term
• SLOs can be copied from CurricUnet into the site for each class
• For each term – add section to the term – Create link to provide to students – Create assignment which points students to the survey.
• Various reports for instructor and administration – need to change section from Survey Ready to Report Ready
before report can be run • Analyze above data and enter into survey monkey
Web sites • There are two web sites we can use to report on
assessment of SLOs – www.sloevl.com was created by Cristian Racataian, an
associate faculty in CIS. This site collects feedback data from students.
• The following slides show you how to add a discipline, a course and a section to the web site. You will not need to do that if the discipline and course are already present, you will just need to add the section for each term.
• The site also generates reports. You can view your section report and then summarize it in Survey Monkey.
– Survey Monkey is used to collect your analysis of the data from the above step. It also has a web site mentioned later on in this slide show.
• Change the status from Survey Ready to Report Ready first (see next slide) by clicking the section and then clicking Survey Ready
• Go to the Reports Page from the Instructor Menu
• Click Survey Reports, then select discipline, course and then section
• Specify Term and Year, then click Report by Section and click View Report

What happens to the data • Instructors can view reports about their own classes • Chair can view reports about all discipline classes
– Cristian will need to figure out how to control for various disciplines
• The reports can be saved in PDF format and uploaded to Curricunet or Survey Monkey.
• This will meet minimum requirements for assessment. Closing the loop (changes made based on this data) will have to be done elsewhere (survey monkey or ??).
• This is indirect assessment. Direct assessment is looked upon more favorably. This site has been enhanced to allow for direct assessment.

Analysis in www.surveymonkey.com
• The indirect data collected in the www.sloeval.com site needs to be analyzed.
• The central assessment link for RCC is http://academic.rcc.edu/assessment/ and the link to the survey is http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/student-learning-outcomes
• Based on the data from sloeval from this and past terms, fill out the survey monkey form. The accreditation committee will look at what percentage of courses have done the analysis in survey monkey. The survey monkey form should take less than ten minutes per course.
• Eventually, all this will be transferred to a new Sharepoint location
Important that discipline be entered using only three characters

Compensation
• Associate faculty who have attended a workshop on assessment can receive a payment of $50 (until funds remain available) for each assessment that they do
• John Sullivan sent out an email recently about this compensation
