Shot: 1 Shot Type: Mid Shot of the frontman angled away and to the left of the frame – shows the audience who the frontman is. The camera is also handheld – gives the audience a sense of realism (being there with the band) and a free, hippy feel which is a normal convention of indie pop. Analysis: -The establishing shot shows the front man with a guitar, which the audience can recognize as the frontman and also the genre of the music video. -He is also facing and angled away from the camera which, as well as the hand held camera, gives the audience an insider feeling, like they are there with the band. -There is a filter on the camera which gives a 1970’s feeling, which is also supported by the neutral colour of the clothing and the location. -Both of the above are conventions of Indie Pop music videos, as seen in Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness. Time: 0:02 Edit: It cuts to the next shot at the end of the lyric, to the frontman in a low angle shot of him playing the guitar with his feet up, continuing with the aspect of being relaxed and being present. Shot: 4 Shot Type: A Hand Held Mid Shot with a girl lower right of the frame – this gives the sense of being a ‘home video.’ Analysis: -The shot gives the impression of a ‘home video’ due to the filter and the way the camera is angled seems as if she is being filmed by somebody, looking down on her. -The filter and neutral colours, as well as the females hair, keeps within the 1970’s, feeling. -Her hair is a hair style favored by the indie genre, which connotes the indie pop genre. -As this is a home video, it gives the audience a sense of the artist reflecting on the past, which is also proven by the next shot (shown below.) -The lyrics are illustrative of the lyric as they are in past tense and the shot shows a home video from the past. Edit:It cuts to a close up of the girls face, showing her crying, but in a different location and a different filter. This shows the audience the females emotions, after the break up, which is relevant to the song.

Shot: 12

Shot Type: Long Shot of the whole band – showing the audience again who the band is, so they would be able to recognize them (advertising them.) Also is a Hand Held shot – gives the sense of being there.

Analysis:-This shot shows the whole band, which is the main convention of a band’s music video.-The filter and neutral colours also keeps in with the 70’s, hippy feel.-The band has a morbid look on their face which is illustrative of the lyrics and theme of the song.-The lighting is a natural light, coming through the window in the center of the shot, which again, keeps within the feeling and also draws attention to the frontman, who is placed right underneath the light.

Lyric:‘Post break-up sex that helps you forget your ex’

Edit:it zooms in slightly, which reinforces the idea of being ever-present.

Shot: 30

Shot Type: The shot uses a filter over the lens – giving an indie feel and symbolizes another point of view and the eye.

Analysis:-This has a curved filter which, as stated, gives the audience an impression of an eye, keeping in with the idea of being present.-The filtered haze also keeps in with the theme and gives an impression of spring time which is often associated with this genre.-This is also shown in Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness.

Lyric:‘ex’ (extended lyric/note)

Edit:Cuts to another hazed filter shot, keeping within this theme.

Page 3: Indie Pop

Shot: 72

Shot Type: Extreme Close Up of a male crying – conveys to the audience the theme of the song.

Analysis:-The extreme close up shows the emotions on the males face, as well as the other people in the montage, to help enforce the narrative.-Their outfits also fit in with the genre as it is typical of this, which helps the target audience identify with them.

Lyric:

‘ex’ (extended lyric/note)

Edit:Montages of people, who all fit into the indie genre through their clothes, crying and being upset which shows the audience that the nature of the song is about being upset despite the music, which is indie pop, therefore happy.

Shot: 75

Shot Type: A Mid Shot of the two main members of the band; the guitarist and frontman. The camera is Hand Held which still suggests the feeling of being present.

Analysis:-The filter shows a blurred shot which possibly helps to represent the after effect of crying, ie, blurred vision.-Though this could also be filtered this way as it is a convention of this genre as seen in some band/artist images.-This shot has been mainly lit by natural light from the window featured in the right hand side of the shot which suggests that this shot was filmed at a certain time of day where the light was present.

Time:2:53

Lyric:outro

Edit:Cuts to the last shot which is of the guitarist and his guitar, keeping within the indie feeling.
