COMPILATION OF DIRECTORY OF DEAF SCHOOLS

Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), New Delhi is an autonomous body

under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD), Ministry of Social Justice

and Empowerment (MSJE), Govt. of India.

ISLRTC is working on the development of a directory of deaf schools in India. The purpose of the

directory is to provide a comprehensive and consolidated list of schools that impart education to deaf

children across India. The directory will serve as resource for families of deaf children to search for and

select appropriate schools according to the educational and communicative needs of the child in the selected

region of the country and thus initiate the child’s formal schooling.

Till date, ISLRTC has received information from 37 schools. The information about the schools has

been compiled and consolidated. The directory consists of information about the name of the school,

address, name of the principal/director/head of the institute with contact number, level of education, medium

of instruction, whether ISL is taught or not, number of students, type of setup, hostel facilities, affiliation

with board/university, funding support and special achievements or noteworthy input.The compiled list is

given below.The directory will be updated regularly.
