THE FAHRNEY COLLECTION FROM THE INDIAN HILLS PERMANENT ART COLLECTION Monday, June 8 - Thursday, September 9 l Indian Hills Art Gallery (inside Library) l Free Admission

The art works from the Fahrney Collection were collected by Helen Fahrney during the late 1930’s and 1940’s. They were offered by the AAA (Associated American Artists) as a monthly subscription. Her collection of AAA artist’s original prints was gifted to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary. With the purchase of the Ottumwa Heights College from the Sisters by Indian Hills Community College in 1981, ownership of this collection of original artists’ prints was transferred to the Indian Hills permanent art collection.

Retirement is the perfect time to be creative! Richard Dutton retired in 1999 after teaching at Indian Hills for 34 years where he was Chairperson of the Performing and Visual Arts. Since retirement, he has been painting in watercolor, oil, acrylic and mixed media. Mark McWhorter retired in 2020 after teaching at Indian Hills for 40 years and was Director of the Indian Hills Art Gallery for 35 years. Known for his popular ceramics and painting classes, since retirement, he has been concentrating on working in watercolor.

The Iowa Watercolor Society was organized in 1977 by a small group of enthusiastic watercolorists and now celebrates well over 150 members. These paintings are a selection of the best and award winning paintings from the IWS Annual Exhibition.

THE NANCY WILSON/CANNONBALL ADDERLEY PROJECT FEATURING KATHLEEN HOLEMAN WITH THE DAVID SHARP JAZZ ORCHESTRA Thursday, September 9, 5:00-7:00 P.M. l Marge Dodd Stage l Free Admission (In case of inclement weather concert will be in St John Auditorium)

Bring your lawn chair and picnic to campus. Vocalist Kathleen Holeman and Indian Hills own David Sharp showcase the legendary jazz vocalist Nancy Wilson and saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley. Wilson and Adderley began collaborating in 1959 in NYC and she performed until 2011 charting 11 songs in the Hot 100 and placed four albums in Billboard’s Top LP charts. She won her first Grammy in 1964, for best R&B recording for her LP “How Glad I Am” and went on to win Best Jazz Vocal Grammy Awards for her albums “R.S.V.P. (Rare Songs, Very Personal)” (2005) and “Turned to Blue” (2007). Wilson was also a successful TV actress before her death in 2018.

Featuring photographs that are an ode to the amazing Old Guard soldiers of Arlington National Ceme-tery, and to all the family and friends of the fallen. Through images, you will go on a visual and emotional journey that leaves you grateful, inspired, and proud to be an American. Burgess is a graduate of the US Military Academy West Point and served in the US Army as an Aviation Officer flying helicopters. She holds an MA in Photography from Ohio University and is a photography instructor at Indian Hills Commu-nity College. Rendering Honors will be published into a book in fall 2021.
