So it had been years since I’d traveled to the lively metropolis of London when I found myself trekking down the underground stairs to catch the “tube” in order to meet some old friends for a late dinner. Being from the States, I find myself in awe of just how simple mass transit in the bustling city can be. I don’t know that I’ve ever really stressed about how to get from point A to point B.

I think that my ease and confidence in my experiences traveling the “tube” stems from the elementary way that the mapping graphics have been laid out. Instead of having to remember transit line and connection names, all I have to do is remember to take the brown line to the grey line to the red line. Brown, grey, red – it’s that easy. Even the non-creatives of the world can relate to and function within a color-coded infrastructure.

If you think about it, without color, the map of the London underground could have ended up as a spaghetti-like index of monochromatic lines and text. But, with a simple infusion of bright color, what was originally intended as a strictly utilitarian diagram of one of the world’s busiest transit systems is now a world-renowned icon of the city’s active, urban culture.

Color made all of the difference. Whether it’s a famous interpretation proudly hanging in the halls of the Tate Gallery or a tattered paper guide haphazardly shoved in my back pocket, the “tube” is a shining example of the impact of chromatic inspiration.

Index takes on a new direction as it artfully defines and guides through complex spaces; providing necessary details that tell a story of not only color, but also of destination.

The use of color in wayfinding has long been a common practice in signage, but the utilization of directional color within the floor finish is a more subtle and sophisticated approach to address circulation, navigation, and critical work zones.

Index takes this practice and delivers an additional design component that allows for even greater diversity in your quest to create an informative, modular flooring plan. With three neutral bases and sets of four bright accents to uniquely complement each neutral, Index will now allow you to utilize and combine two distinct tile sizes.

Available in either 24” x 24” tiles or our new 12” x 48” demi-plank, color in addition to size can now take your environment into a new and informative direction.

Due to the unique visual characteristics of modular carpets, pattern repeats and pattern run-off seams may appear more noticeable than in broadloom carpets. Such visual characteristics do not constitute a manufacturing defect, and as such, should be considered when selecting moduar carpet and its installation.

These photographs are representations of the installation for this modular product. Your modular installation may look different than these photos depending upon individual tile placement, lighting, and overall space layout, including furnishings. Final tile placement and the resulting visual is thus the customer’s, and not J+J Flooring Group’s responsibility.

ADHESIVES

Commercialon® Premium Modular Adhesive

A high strength acrylic latex-based carpet adhesive specifically formulated for bonding modular PVC backed carpet to the floor. This premium adhesive is for use with all Invision Nexus Modular Tile products. This adhesive is guaranteed for the life of the installation when used in accordance with the J+J Flooring Group Carpet Installation Handbook. Commercialon Premium Modular Adhesive meets the CRI Low-VOC Emission Criteria, CRI ID# PSA-425402. Commercialon

Premium Modular Adhesive is non toxic, has ultra-low odor and is antimicrobial in the dry state.

TECHNOLOGIES

ProTex® Soil ReleaseProTex is a proprietary fluorochemical technology that is applied and bonded to the pile fiber to impede soiling and to improve cleanability. It is standard on all J+J Flooring Group products.

ProTex works similarly to the technology used in nonstick cookware by lowering the surface energy of the fibers which increases soil release properties. Very small soil particles cause carpet to appear dull. Thanks to ProTex, small soil particles are effectively removed by vacu-uming or wet cleaning.

OPTIONAL BACKINGS

Nexus® CushionNexus Cushion is a cushion backing system for modular products, offering oustanding performance and comfort underfoot.

ALTERNATIVE ADHESIVES

TileTabs®

TileTabs are high tack adhesive tabs that connect carpet tiles together, resulting in a continual layer that gently grips existing flooring. Escape typical trappings with TileTabs for a versatile, glue-free installa-tion solution for modular carpet goods. Just peel, place, & press!

ADDITIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

ProSept® AntimicrobialProSept is a unique, broad-spectrum technology applied to the carpet backing system to serve a dual function: to protect the carpet from both bacterial and fungal growth and to eliminate odors associated with molds and fungi.

Sentir® Advanced Odor-Blocking TechnologyJ+J Flooring Group’s Sentir is a self- renewing treatment designed for the control or elimination of offensive odors associated with various indoor environments, and it is especially beneficial with odor-bearing spills.

Sentir is not a deodorant that masks offensive odors. It is a technology that absorbs and fragments the odor into component parts over a period of time, thus destroying the odor itself. Sentir is not decomposed by this action and is therefore ready to destroy the next odor molecule it encounters. The binding properties of Sentir provide resistance to multiple cleanings and trafficking, ensuring durability.
