“ Stop Smoking for better health-

Campaign”

Bharti Foundation–

Philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies.

Set up to help underprivileged children and young people of our country to

realize their potential.

Satya Bharti School Program–

Flagship program of Bharti Foundation.

It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special

focus on the girl child across rural India.

Goal to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over 200,000

students.

Present Operational Status–

Number of Schools Operational : 254

States of Operation : Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal &

Tamil Nadu

Number of Students Enrolled : 40,000+

Introduction:

Geographical Location:

Surkhpur village, situated at 34 kms from district headquarter Rewari.

Fertile Soil

Under ground water level : 60 ft.

Socio- Economic Background:-

Major castes are : Harijan, Brahmin,Yadav, etc.

Dominating castes : Yadav

Main source of earning is agriculture, animal husbandary, labor, etc.

Total Household-500

Population : 2500

Literacy Rate- 60%

About the Community:

In village Surkhpur, most of the youths & older ones are habitual of smoking it also effect their health & efficiency of work. They used following in smoking:•Biri•Cigaratte•Hukka

By seeing this, young generation of our society (age group of 10-18 years) also using smoking. Initially they are using this because of seeing others but slowly they are habitual of smoking.

They are also spending a lot on smoking

We felt:

Only awareness and self initiation of an individual helps anyone to get rid out from smoking.

We imagine our village is totally free from smoking. As smoking is very hazardous to smoker & also person sitting around him. This is very hazardous to small kids & children of the family who are always living with smoker parent & guardian.

Its better if an individual left smoking and use this amount on children education and on their quality diet.

We Imagine:

Here we are imagine that our village is totally free from smoking. No one try to use smoking in public places and in front of children and also follow the law made by govt on

smoking.

We Did:

Awareness Rally with appealing slogans in the community.One to one counseling of individual, especially senior members of the family.Chaupal Meetings with youths of the village.Commitment with Individual.

Impact on Community:

Community member accept that smoking is not good for health & many take oath in written to quit smoking.

Give written commitment to small champs of the village.

Youth member of the village also support campaign, initiated by small champs of Satya Bharti School.

They also accepting that young generation also following their elder ones and starts smoking.

Impact on Community: Community member realizes that due to addiction of smoking in the village, family head forget their responsibilities or accountability for family/ village.

Sarpanch, Key persons and village youth take oath with students that “

they quit smoking due to children campaign and also aware villagers on smoking bad effects on our society and

health.”

Students understand about hazardous effect of “SMOKING”, how it deep rooted in the society. How it adversely effect our young generation & children.

Appreciation by the community helps in increasing motivation level of students.

Appreciation by parents, guardians & teachers motivating children for initiating more campaigns on other community issue.

This type of initiation helps children to make future leader of the good society.

Impact on Us:

1.More rally in coming months.

2. Poster displaying at common places of the village (Oct. to March 2015)

3. One to one counseling of parents by their own child.

4. Involve youths & Panchyat of the village in the campaign and aware community about various hazardous diseases occurs due to smoking.
