In 1973 Courtaulds took over with a turnover of £15 million and 1000 employees. This building was later converted into the Rosemary Centre complex of offices and shops which opened in 1984. Shops currently trading in the centre are Argos, Store Twenty One, Lloyds Pharmacy, Domino Pizza, Slacks News and Iceland. Iceland was once a ‘Fulham’s Frozen Food’ shop and over the years has expanded taking over the Fulham’s and Coral’s bookies. They have a bonus card that gives out vouchers as prizes on a monthly basis and acts as a card for free home delivery. Did you know that Iceland used to trade from inside the Littlewoods Store which is now Primark? The back of the Rosemary Centre and access to the car park is off Union Street which except for the Golf Support shop and Bilton Hammond Solicitors is now a residential street. Way back in1912 the street according to the Linneys Almanack and Diary for that year was made up of many small businesses including a grocery store, joiner, builder, bricklayer, fruiterer, draper, guard, whitesmith, plumber, firewood dealer, mineral waters, Sanson Bros Union Foundry and the Hope and Anchor Inn. It was with money he was given for his 19th birthday that William purchased tools and leather and started up his own business making and repairing boots and shoes. Two of William’s sons Kenneth and Colin carried on the business for many years. Kenneth retired in the 1970’s and Colin continued to run the business until ill health forced him to finish work and the business was taken over by John who had only just turned eighteen. John further developed the outdoor equipment retail side of the business. In 2002 the business celebrated their centenary and they were very proud to receive a letter from the Queen to acknowledge their achievement.
