Aiming for the world, we integrate global technical resources for innovative R & D, own world-class R & D equipment and systems, have been accredited as a "state-accredited enterprise technology center" and a "post-doctoral research workstation" by five ministries and commissions including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and were named a "national innovation-oriented enterprise" in February 2011. We now have an R & D team of over 6,500 members, and will continue to expand the team to over 10,000 members by 2015.To date, our "four centers" (test center, trial-manufacturing center, modeling center and power center) have been up to world leading and domestic leading standards. We are capable of designing and developing SUV, passenger car and pickup series as well as powertrain, and developing a dozen models simultaneously. In fields such as engine, transmission, vehicle modeling, vehicle design, CAE and test, we have formed independent technologies, standards and intellectual property.We have kept to a strategy of "excessive investment" in technical R & D and pursue industrial lead. We have invested over 4 billion yuan in R & D since 2006 and will invest a total of 8 billion yuan by 2015By late October 2010, GWM's new technical center with a total investment of 5 billion yuan had broken ground. Expected to go into operation in 2014, it will consist of nine world leading centers: the test center is capable of conducting multiple tests covering safety, emission, vehicle, chemical materials, parts and NVH, and the new laboratories include environmental simulation laboratory, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) laboratory and power assembly performance/NVH laboratory. The trial-manufacturing center has a flexible body welding line and assembly stations, is capable of trial-manufacturing tooling/fixture and designing rapid tooling and gauges, undertakes the trial-manufacturing of prototypes of all models developed by the technical center, and has the capability to manufacture individual commercial vehicles; the modeling center is equipped with world leading data measuring equipment. Of the equipment, double-cantilever coordinate measuring machine, FARO flexible coordinate measuring machine, KREON laser scanning system, virtual reality review system, interactive touch review system and digital vehicle processing system were up to world leading standards; the power center has established a perfect independent R & D system integrating six core capabilities: benchmark, design, CAE, NVH, calibration and testing. "Excessive investment" in technical R & D has laid a solid foundation for GWM's continuous independent innovation.

■ Complete Vehicle Emission Test GWM Technology Center is established based on the performance integration development system and the product platform, forming a multidisciplinary collaborative design environment. The Technology Center adopts the internationally-advanced digital design tools and V-shaped development processes to realize the synchronous design, development and validation in the entire process of the product development, effectively guaranteeing research and development quality and shortening the research and development cycle. Currently more than 20 kinds of products, including the SUV, sedan, pickup and MPV models, have been developed based on CH Platform, CHB platform, CHK platform and K platform.

Vehicle Design

The Modeling Center is the important integration of the Great Wall Motors Technology Center with a professional design team of more than 300 staff members. It is responsible for modeling design in the complete vehicle development process. It can design 9 cars' shape and appearance at the same time. The Modeling Center consists of the Frontal Analysis Department, the Creative Idea Design Department, the CAS Design Department, COLOR&TRIM Department and the Advanced Surface Design. These departments can complete all jobs in the whole process, including conceptual design, design, digital model, clay model, color and trimming, A-surface production and VR digital rendering. The Shape Design Center is equipped with the advanced coordinate measuring machine, the graphic pattern scanner, the color difference meter, the five-axis machining equipment and the completely virtual simulation evaluation system.

Modeling Design

GWM takes constant innovation and development of environment-friendly technologies as the goal, and gradually establishes the energy-saving and environment-friendly technologies development system. By application of the energy-saving control ideas and development of environment-friendly control technologies and the thermal management and control technologies, it can constantly increase the complete vehicle exhaust performance and meet with the emission regulations specified in different countries, establishing the industry-wide development system.

Hazardous Substances Inspection and ExaminationThe laboratory is equipped with internationally advanced inspection and examination devices, including Thermo TD-GC-MS and HPLC (USA), Brook XRD (Germany), Seiko XRF (Japan), and Agilent ICP-AES (USA). Failure AnalysisIt is equipped with the environmental scanning electron microscope made by FEI (USA) which may conduct the microstructure analysis and the microanalysis, up to one million times magnification and 3nm resolution. It is in the internationally top level. Environmental Weather Resistance TestIt includes two parts - the complete vehicle weather resistance test room and the parts weather resistance test room. The complete vehicle weather resistance test room consists of the complete vehicle walk-in salt spray corrosion vehicle cabin and the high temperature highly humid cabin. In 2008, it has the complete vehicle enhanced corrosion resistance test ability which is nationally advanced. Based on advanced technologies, we have successfully developed and manufactured complete vehicle moulds of Great Wall Wingle, Great Wall Florid, Haval H6, Great Wall M4, Great Wall C30 and C50.

This machine tool uses the operating system developed by Okuma based on Microsoft operating system XP. This system has common advantages of Frank and Siemens, including easy, flexible and user-friendly operation.

To save commissioning time on the production line, our company is equipped with 2 flexible commissioning units mainly consisting of mechanical 2,000 tons tensile machine; their benches can be changeable, realizing the easy and quick change from the grinding machine to the mechanical press machine mould.

It is the CNC multifunctional machine tool with functions rough machining, semi-finishing and 5-axis interactive high speed fine machining; the maximum speed of its main shaft is 24,000r/min and maximum feeding speed is 20,000mm/min. It can be used for fine machining and super finish of molding surface of external panel sheet stamping tool, greatly increasing machining precision.

It features double workstation, multi-angle, high-speed and high-precision. It can be suitable for machining of any angle hole, groove, face and arc, efficiently increasing the machining efficiency and the manufacturing precision.

It is equipped with one unit of high speed 5-axis machine tool made by EEW (Germany). There is only one machine like that in China. The machine tool's quick feeding can reach speed of 150m/min and its processing speed can reach 60m/min. In addition, it is equipped with 26000 rpm 20 kW high speed OMLAT main shaft to optimize the machine tool performance. This machine tool may make the complete vehicle mould processing precision reach to 0.2mm. Surface quality and touching feeling provided by this machine tool may surpass other machine tools.

Druing the process design, Autoform and Dynaform software are used for CAE simulation analysis. It has complete CAE analysis and the optimization and design ability for process scheme, greatly shortening the mould commissioning and grinding time.

Based on the general design software, it has independently developed functions "mould 3D smart parametric die" and "automatic generated list". With quality assurance, the design efficiency has increased by 12%.

It has introduced the professional movement simulation software which may analyze the movement relationship between the mould and the automatic line body, optimizing the mould structure and increasing the entire line productivity.

Thermoforming Mould DevelopmentIt has tried for the first time in China to develop the thermoforming mould. Thermoforming means that sheets are heated to austenitizing temperature; the forming immediately follows with quick cooling to make the sheet structure change from the Austenite to the martensite, so that the processing parts strength reaches more than 1500 MP to meet requirements in safety and lightweight.

高精度 Stamping It covers an area of 20,000 square meters, with a total investment of nearly 300 million RMB. The designed beat is 72 seconds. Hourly production is 50-units. It makes the huge investment to the automatic spraying equipment - totally 26 units of wall type automatic spraying robot made in foreign country. The workshop is equipped with the painting-dedicated robot made by YASKAWA and the atomizer made by SAMES (France), laying a sound foundation for quality improvement. Organic emission generated in use of water-base paint for painting is lower 85% than in use of solvent type paint. It insists on environment-friendly principle, safety and energy saving concepts. Automatic spraying section makes use of the A/C return flow to reduce the energy consumption and make our manufacturing activities more environment-friendly.

It covers an area of about 86,000 square meters, and is currently the largest workshop in the GWM. It is a flexible production line, realizing mixed production of different car models. Almost 100 million RMB was invested on this assembly workshop with designed beat of 62 seconds and production capacity of 250,000 units, meeting off line standard "zero commissioning". No. 1 interior line and no.2 interior line use GLF logistics manner to reduce wrong installation and missed installation items and increase the assembly efficiency. The transportation of the chassis assembly line is by H-shaped hanger in friction. The chassis general assembly line #1 uses internationally-advanced integrated automatic tracking assembly AGV trolley which features automatic navigation, automatic tracking and correct assembling.

It covers an area of about 67,000 square meters. According to the technical characteristics, it is classified by working areas for body adjusting line, main welding line, front/rear floor line, and five doors and one cover line, and side wall lines. The entire production line is the high-level sedan welding and assembly line in China. To ensure the quality of welding, all spot welders are designed with dotting counting function. The main body welding production line is an internationally-advanced production line. Through the information system management and the flexible fixture design, it can make it possible to manufacture three different car models simultaneously. It just takes 10s to transfer one car model to another model. It may realize the multi-frequency small-batch production.

General assembly station is equipped with robot manipulators. The highly rigid robot's resetting precision may reach 0.2mm so that it may manufacture high-precision vehicle body and ensure good body quality.

Door cover edging is produced using rolling technology by robot. Compared to the traditional stamping edging process, it features easy model transfer, less space and lower requirement to the foundation bearing capacity in the process of equipment installation.

It is made in Fageseda, Spain.A01 automated press line is one of the largest-tonnage press machines in China. The press machine is made by Jier Machine-Tool Group Co., Ltd.. On May 25, Great Wall Internal Combustion Engine Manufacturing Company Limited was established as the earliest with core power among independent brands.

On December 15, GWM was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as the first domestic private automaker listed in Hong Kong.

On March 28, President Hu Jintao gave an important instruction to GWM.On June 2, GWM headed the list of China's top 10 listed automakers.On October 12, "GWM Technology Center" was accredited as a national corporate technical center.On October 29, the 200,000 units/y manufacturing base was completed; GWPeri and Cowry MPV rolled offline; and GWM released its new logo across the world.On November 7, GWM was accredited qualified to manufacture cars. Afterwards, series like GWPeri, Florid, Coolbear, Great Wall C10, Great Wall C30 were launched in a row.

On March 6, the 100,000 units/year manufacturing base was completed and Haval CUV went into production.On July 1, the cornerstone was laid for Great Wall Passenger car’s manufacturing base.

On August 28, GWM was listed among China's top 500 enterprises and made the list consecutively afterwards with its place up gradually.

On July 24, GWM was accredited as a "National Vehicle Export Base".On September 3, Great Wall Haval CUV was exported to Italy, setting a record of batch export to the EU among Chinese independent brands.

On September 8, GWM's Florid, Coolbear, Haval H5 and Wingle 5 won "Whole Vehicle Type Approval" as the first Chinese independent auto brand.

In January, Haval SUV "Loong Racing Car" made its debut in the Dakar Rally on behalf of Chinese independent auto brands, and completed the race successfully.

In January, Haval SUV made its second presence in the Dakar Rally, outperforming other Chinese brands. In 2012, Haval took presence in the race for the third straight year.On May 16, the 1st "Great Wall Science & Technology Festival" took place and was staged annually afterwards.On August 25, GWM's Tianjin manufacturing base went into operation, and Haval H6 was launched.In September 2011, GWM was listed among "Forbes Asia’s 50 FAB Companies", ranking 21st. On January 17, Haval H6 was honored as "CCTV 2011 Independent SUV".In July, GWM topped the "List of Automaker Investment Potential" and was placed 4th on the "List of Automaker Investment Value" released by the China Automobile Industry Economic Research Institute.On November 8, Chairman Wei Jianjun was elected as a deputy to the 18th CPC National Congress and President Wang Fengying as an NPC deputy in March of the next year.On November 29, GWM was listed among "10 Auto Brands Satisfying Distributors Most" as the only independent automaker listed.

In January, Haval made its fourth presence in the Dakar Rally, finished 6th and 19th overall.On March 29, GWM held the ceremony for the launch of the Haval brand strategy and the delivery of the 1,000,000th vehicle, announcing Haval's independence and the launch of the dual-brand strategy operation.

On April 28, GWM won “May 1 Labor Certificate”.On May 13, GWM's small-displacement engine base was completed and came on stream, rolling off two all-aluminum VVT engines.
