Bringing High Speed Broadband to Dartmoor & Exmoor
Bringing High Speed Broadband to Dartmoor & Exmoor
Airband provides fast internet in areas that others can’t reach. With over ten years
experience Airband uses the latest in fixed wireless microwave technology to bring businesses speeds of 30Mbps to 1Gbps.
Our private network stretches across Warwickshire, Worcestershire,
Herefordshire, Shropshire, Powys and parts of Gloucestershire
Who are we?
Within the areas our network operates, we provide services to four county councils, emergency services and blue-chip organisations, not to mention 1000’s of small to medium-sized businesses.
Experience
Benefits• Quick install – minimal digging to landscapes,
ensuring environmental protection• Low latency means that it works with VOIP and
VPN, so you can do away with telephone lines and run your telephone through your broadband
• Speeds from 10Mb to 1Gbps for both download and upload
• Largest fixed wireless network in the UK
Smaller, independent ISPs have various benefits over that of large national providers, generally offering a more personal experience for consumers. Some key benefits include:
Benefits of a Smaller ISP
• Specialised / bespoke services for the likes of small businessesSmall ISPs have the capability to work closely with business customers to evaluate needs and
requirements and present the best suited packages and options
• Care about serving communities that are otherwise neglectedFor large ISPs, investing in rural and hard to reach areas often does not provide a practical return on
investment, so smaller, alternative ISPs are often able to focus on these niche areas
• Small ISPs offer better, more personal customer serviceCustomers can talk to genuine people based here in the UK, and can often speak to the same
customer service team member
• As privately owned, capital can be reinvested back into the businessThis reinvestment can be used to expand the network, build on service offering or make
investments in other aspects of the business such as customer service,
in order to increase longevity and become future-proof

How it Works The Airband network operates by relaying a microwave signal via small, unobtrusive radios fixed to tall structures such as existing structures or trees.
These are deliberately located to overcome physical barriers such as hills, trees or structures, transmitting the internet wirelessly overground, rather than underground.
Project Aims • The CDS initiative aims to provide 90% of all properties with a
high speed broadband connection, with an overall aim of bringing superfast broadband to all by 2020
• Airband’s aim is to provide superfast broadband to rural areas where traditional fibre solutions cannot reach, extending the superfast broadband connection by around 6% (approximately 6,000 properties) across Dartmoor and Exmoor
• To plan, install and maintain a private network, tailoring the solution to specific environments taking into account the geography, the existing wireless landscape and the economics of this project.
• The project is due for completion in June 2016
Low Impact Solutions Airband are building a larger network in order to keep structures low and to ensure the network is fitting with the landscape

Coverage
In order to map coverage, Airband use ATDI radio-planning software, ICS designer
This software identifies anything in the landscape that may obstruct the line of sight for our network, such as trees or manmade structures.
