As announced at previous Laviosa Informa magazine, one of the core objectives de ned in 2014 was introducing LindoCat to Turkish domestic market and after a challenging technical and bureaucratic period, company achieved to the nal stage which is presenting our company and LindoCat brand goods to market and sector players. Company participated with a very well organized booth (thanks to Zeynel Can and Olimpia Laviosa) and represented in a professional way in the 4th. Pet Istanbul Fair which took place on 03-06th Sep-tember 2015. It was a unique opportunity to make our company and brand become recognized in sector and meet with potential partners for our growth and making easier to create and expend our network within country.

3rd mill at PundiWe have recently in-stalled a new roller mill at our facility in Pundi. This is our third mill and once commissioned, will theoretically double our production capac-ity.More importantly this mill will give the Com-pany production ex-ibility and reduce the delivery time to our customers, especially during peak demand periods. This mill can, in future, be upgraded to al-low heating of higher moisture material, giv-ing better control on quality in such cases. The combined mill-ing capacity at Pundi is 40000 - 45000 MT/annum.

Dehli Metro Rail Corporation reward for Laviosa Trimex the quality of Civil Engineering products

After a busy summer, we are getting back to work to nish this 2015 of changes, but also con rmations, in the best possible way.The rst months of cohabitation following the association of the port and operations of ces have gone by. Having con rmed that this new union between the two souls of Carlo Laviosa is not only feasible but can also be a resource for all of us, both on a personal and a working level, we are about to take on a new season with an additional chal-lenge – strengthening the Livorno-Cagliari freight line on behalf of the Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione, 3 more vessels every week, returning also to the old base in Via Galvani. It will require an extra effort from all of us, but always with the aware-ness that this new commitment is also determined by our expertise and by the Compagnia’s trust in us and the work we do every day.

Laviosa at the GIFA, DüsseldorfFrom 16 to 20 June, the foundry industry met up in Dusseldorf.

The great trade fair complex on the edge of the city in the heart of the Rhur hosted the GIFA – the event that every 4 years, like the Olympics, offers opportunities for encounters to all those in the industry. The 2015 event rati ed the global value of this event, relegating all the other great interna-tional trade fairs to second place, including the China’s Metalchina.During the GIFA the city is transformed, everything revolves around the fair, exhibitors and visitors come from all over the world, they meet or meet up again, ll the streets and squares, and beer ows like a river. Laviosa took part, presenting itself with the “Piazza Italia” vehicle, Amafond and ICE’s well-tested mechanism to provide support for all Italian Amafond mem-bers participating in the fair. It was an opportunity to present new products, new solutions and new organizations to the market. The professional diligence that allows an amount of commercial activity and contacts corresponding to many months work to be concentrated in 5 days, is impressive.Attendance at this year’s event by international visitors was extremely high, particularly from India, Turkey, China and Italy, and compared with past editions, the quality and corporate standing of the contacts has increased signi cantly.Nearly all the customer representatives visiting our stand, both foreign and Italian, were at executive level. In conclusion, it was a GIFA in the spirit of optimism and a relaunch of the industry at all levels.

Expanding our knowledge

A new lab room in Via Galvani in Livorno.Recently has been nished a new room in the L1 lab. This new room will be dedicated for QC and for R&D, where a few of our new young chemists will work. The major utilization for the QC will be the Bleaching Earths tests, abrasivity and deproteinizing power. Regarding the bleaching earths,

new instruments were purchased like the digital oil ltration, the tintometer and the dry bath. These instruments will allow us to be more expert in this market segment. For R&D of Performance Additives the spectrophotometer and abrasimeter can be used. There is also some space for future new instruments, that could help us to extend our knowledges on materials and product performances.

An ancient proverb says “When the winds of change blow, some peo-ple build walls, others build windmills”.For each of us, our daily work is made up for the most part of proce-dures, rules and methods that allow us to do what needs to be done to carry out our role properly. Over time, these actions can become so habitual as to be considered obstacles to the changes that continue to affect our plant; changes that initially always require a period of “adjust-ment”, but which over time and with their consolidation, require a prop-er answer from us. It is now clear that the demand for packed products (whether sacks or big bags) with customization and hundreds of other devices, has overtaken the demand for loose products. The numbers are such as to cause us those “pleasant dif culties” in managing the warehouses. We cannot, however, always tackle these situations by adjusting to them, and this is why the Galvani plant has decided to reor-ganize management of its warehouses by increasing storage capacity for these products. The new warehouse will give us a 300m² covered area to use to optimize handling these products. Aware, however, that it is not enough to have enclosed spaces, the plant is reviewing its com-plete logistics organization by asking “if everything is in the right place”, and internally reorganizing its areas to better optimize the process that goes from planning to shipment of the product. As previously said, the wind of change is blowing hard, and knowing that the initial dif culties will be directly proportional for all of us, we will build all the windmills needed to accumulate the maximum bene t from each of them.

Fabio Brando

Changes in via GalvaniWhen adjusting isn’t enough, you have to change.

Production and environmental optimization in Sardinia

A new dust recovery conveyor belt has been installed as part of the continuing process to improve production ef ciency and the working environment. The approx. 50m long belt will provide both environmental (reduction of dust diffusion), and economic bene ts (reduced diesel consumption and lower maintenance costs for the excavator, and savings on labour). Installation of the new dust recovery belt cost around 70 thousand euro, and we should see an economic return on the investment in less than 2 years. .

Monte Idda and Bakirgoel: work gets underway!

Important updates from the Mining Division.During the past year, our Company has obtained two signi cant min-ing concessions: Monte Idda, in Sardinia, and Bakirgoel, in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The Bakirgoel deposit it located near the city of Unye, a few dozen kilometres from our Laviosa Sanayi ve Ticaret plant. This deposit has a potential of around 2 million tons of white and pink bentonite, which would give us more independence from cur-rent Turkish suppliers, and make us more competitive in other divi-sions including Paper and Cat Litter. The site was opened at the end of August and the sterile layer re-moved in order to extract the 10,000 tons envisaged for this year. At the moment we are transferring the rst tons of white bentonite to the LST plant to begin the rst production of our bentonite!

The Monte Idda deposit is in southern Sardinia a few dozen kilome-tres from our L3 plant. This deposit has a potential of approx.400,000 tons of bentonite and will serve to increase production of Cat Litter. In the past few weeks the site has been prepared for the start of min-ing, scheduled for October. The opening of these two mines is an excellent result. This is not all however – by the end of the year we will obtain the mining conces-sion for the LTI-3 deposit near Pundi in India, while in Sardinia we have just completed the Environmental Impact Assessment for the concession request for Su Cadelanumentre near Macomer.Although we are very satis ed with what has been achieved, we are not stopping here – we are continuing the search for new conces-sions to enable us to look to the future with greater certainty!

Since the beginning of the web project, we have con-stantly taken into consideration the value that each of our companies represents within the group. As well as their contribution in economic and produc-tion terms, their worth comes from their singularity, made up not only of speci c expertise, but (and per-haps above all), by the culture in which they have originated and developed. This is why each of our foreign companies (Laviosa Sanayi ve Ticaret in Turkey, Laviosa MPC in France and Laviosa Trimex Industries in India) has its own website which describes the unique features of the company, the plants, the research laboratories and any mines. However, a graphic style in common with that of the corporate site shows they belong to the group, as well as some shared sections, the most relevant of which is the one relating to our complete range of products and services. This is how we want to iden-tify ourselves, as an international team with different skills and cultures cooperating to achieve a common goal. The sites have been created in English and Italian, and also in the local language for France and Turkey. Thanks to our colleagues around the world for their cooperation in this project. And now ... visit our websites: www.laviosa.com.trwww.laviosampc.comwww.laviosatrimex.comHappy sur ng!

As you all know, Italy hosted the Univer-sal Exposition from May to October 2015. Our Company decided to take advantage of this unique opportunity to organize a visit and invite all employees to spend a day out together. We were still a bit sleepy when we left, but very happy to go on this trip with its somewhat old-fashioned avour, like the village outings of years gone by. And just to recreate that atmosphere we took along some provisions – water, crisps, biscuits, sweets etc. - to make the jour-ney more enjoyable.Once we arrived in Milan, we entered the exhibition area and stopped in the middle of the Decumano to gather out thoughts and decide which pavilions to visit. At that point, various little groups formed and be-gan to browse around and join the inevi-table queues to go inside the pavilions. One of the best moments was meeting up with lots of our colleagues from Sardinia, who were obviously excited and grateful to have had this gift from the company. It was also a good moment because some Livorno colleagues had never actu-ally met those from Villaspeciosa in per-son, even though they had been speak-ing on the phone for years. They were seven intense, somewhat tir-ing, but truly pleasant hours.I don’t know about you, but I sensed a truly positive, happy atmosphere.I saw colleagues who are usually very formal and solemn at work climbing on swivel chairs and having the greatest fun.If there was one regret, it was that some colleagues were unable to come to Milan that day for various reasons.I’d like to nish by reminding you that the theme chosen by Italy for this great event was “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, in other words an invitation to re ect on the ways to ensure healthy, safe food for all the world’s people while managing to respect our planet’s natural balance.More modestly, I hope that this occasion was recognized for what it was simply meant to be – the umpteenth tangible ex-ample of care about all of us.Working at Laviosa means achieving the goals we have set ourselves, putting in 120% effort, having passion for one’s work, but also feeling part of a group whose mission includes “ensuring conti-nuity and future economic stability for our workforce and their families”, an so as for Expo, in our own small way, “Energy for Life”.
