Message from our Chair. For the first time in the history of our forum, we can this year report some new statistics to reflect the immense amount of work our volunteers have been able to achieve on behalf of fellow parent carers and their families. We started electronically recording all our activities from July 2013 until the year end in March 2014. Here are the results:- Total number of meetings attended: 187 These include 38 SEND meetings (about the new reforms), 11 SEND strategic meetings, 17 Health watch meetings and 27 Carers Partnership meetings, 48 LPCC Coffee mornings and many others. 432 people attended our coffee mornings and events. The Top 5 topics discussed at our coffee mornings were:- 1. Statements of educational needs (32) 2. Transition from children’s to adults’ services (24) 3. School Action/School Action Plus & Carers’ Assessments (20) 4. Post 16 (19) 5. Personal Budgets & Accessibility of short breaks (17) As can be seen from the above we have touched the lives of many. We have empowered parent carers to help themselves with the challenges they face raising their children with Special Educational needs and Disabilities and we have signposted and supported professionals to help children and families. With the incoming Children and Families Act from September 2014, our forum’s parent carer volunteers are already stretched to meet demand for the numerous meetings we participate in, but we remain determined to fulfil our charitable duties. We continue to represent parent carers and influence the implementation of the SEND reforms wherever possible. I would like to wholeheartedly thank our volunteers and everyone who has supported our forum in making it the success it is today. News on the Children and Families Act
The Children and Families Act is being implemented in the county and will take effect on 1st
September 2014. The consultation on the second draft of the new SEN code of practice has
closed and we eagerly await the final version of the code due to be published in June. We are
involved in co producing all aspects of the new reforms including the EHC Plan and Process,
Transitions Planning and Personal Budgets. We have recently circulated an email where Lin-
colnshire County Council (LCC) have asked for our network’s views on personal budgets. We
have fedback your views to the Authority and have published the report on our website for
your information. We have also been asked by the Authority to ask for your views on EHC
plans of which we circulated 3 models.
There are still locality events being held by LCC all around the County –see our External
Agency page of our website for more details. Please note you need to book with LCC to attend.
Exciting news for
you… we are holding
SEND workshops in
Ewerby to inform
parents and
professionals about
the impending
changes. Do you
know how your
family will be
affected? See
page 2 for more
details.
Carol’s Cookery Corner Whilst on holiday my daughter in law made these for us to use as pack ups when we all went
off for the day, they are easy to make and keep well, they also taste yummy! I would say
healthy but that depends on how many you eat! I have given you the original recipe but you
can add anything that you have in your store cupboard, they also freeze well. I always
freeze mine and every time my lovely Melissa (granddaughter) comes round I get a couple
of bars out for her, they thaw in no time, and soon disappear. I always keep some in as they
are so useful. These do keep well in a container, if you can leave them alone.
Melt butter,
sugar and honey
together, then
mix in all remain-
ing ingredients
Smooth over top.
