HEAD LICE • Head lice (nits) – Some facts to consider: • Head lice have been around for thousands

of years and anyone can get them. Head lice can be easily transmitted at school with children playing together as well as working closely together.

• Using the conditioner & comb method once each week can help your family prevent and control head lice.

• Head Lice do not carry disease. • Direct contact is required for transmission

from person to person (head to head). • To treat head lice you can purchase

specific lice treatment products at the chemist or supermarket or you can use the conditioner and comb method.

• It is important to check for head lice and treat promptly if head lice are found.

• Also a linen change for the affected child’s bedding will be helpful particularly the pillow case.

• Itchiness of the scalp may not disappear immediately after treatment. This may take a few days to settle down, but itchiness of the scalp alone is not a reliable sign of presence or absence of head lice.

• Treatment will need to be repeated after 7 days, or as per the instructions on the product you have chosen.

Good luck!

CHAPPY CHAT

Hello Everyone, The weeks are flying by so fast and before we know it, the Easter break will be here. This has been helped along by the short 9 week term and because Easter falls at the end of March this year. It’s almost time to start thinking about holiday ac-tivities. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been passing tips on about “Families that work well”. Even just adopting one of these ideas, will make a difference to you and your family. We have looked at Make time for listening and talking; make family time; be affectionate and

caring. Today is about accepting differences. “ Accept Differences: -Let it be known that each family member is special in their own way- whatever the differences. Let them feel proud to be themselves. – Allow each person to be excited about their own interests – show re-spect and tolerance. – No one should be left out or made to feel the odd one out in the family. Share the chores and the power: - Let all family members, including children, have a real say in what happens in the family – it’s important that people feel listened to and valued. Sharing power promotes trust and caring. – share the chores among family members – cooking, cleaning, gardening. Young children may be able to help prepare food or set the table. As they get older they can have more responsibil-ity. Couples who support each other around the house, help the family run smoothly. –Have daily routines in the family. This helps children feel secure. – Use adult power wisely. Use hu-mour and encouragement, not punishment and threats. An ongoing fight for control is not helpful for children. The use of violence or in-timidation is destructive and makes all family members unhappy.” There will be more tips for Families that work well, in next week’s Chat.

Here is a great family meal idea for this week. Savoury lamb chops and Country Corn Bake. Prepare them, then place them in the oven together to bake. Savoury Lamb Chops

In a small saucepan, put 1 cup of water, 2 tblsp vinegar, 2 tblsp brown sug-ar, ½ tsp mustard powder, ¼ cup plain flour, ¼ cup tomato sauce, ½ tsp ginger powder, ½ tsp curry powder.

Bring to a simmer, stirring continually. Place chops in an oven proof dish and pour the sauce over them.

Cover with alfoil and cook at 180 degrees for 2 hours. Remove the alfoil for the last 20 mins of the cooking time.

Country Corn Bake Finely chop 1 onion, ½ cup of grated carrot, ½ cup grated zucchini, ½ cup capsicum, ½ cup diced celery, ½ cup shallots, ½ cup grated cheese, ½ cup SR flour, 4eggs, 30g melted butter,4 diced bacon rashers, 440g drained corn kernels, salt and pepper. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Spoon the mixture into a 20cm round cake tin, which has been greased and lightly dusted with dry breadcrumbs. Bake in a moderate oven for 40 minutes or until set. Serve with the savoury lamb chops for a nutritious family meal. ENJOY! I’ll see you all again next week!
