2 Samuel 7:1 Now when the king lived in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies,

2 the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent."

3 And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you."

3 And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you."

4 But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan,

5 "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in?

7:8 “I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel.

9 And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. ….

11 Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house.

(No, David, you will not build God a house!)

12 … I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He shall build a house for my name, and

I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him … 15 but my steadfast love will not depart from him …

16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.'"

Psalm 89:1 I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. 

3 You have said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant:

4 'I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.'"

Jeremiah 23:5 "Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

6 In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: 'The LORD is our righteousness.'

Ezekiel 37:23 … I will save them from all the backslidings in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

24 "My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes.

7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.

1. We do not build God a house.

2. God builds us a house.

1. God’s blessing is not based on what we do.

2. God’s blessing is based on what Christ has done.

1. We cannot earn salvation.

2. God provides the way of salvation - Jesus

Mark 1: 14 … Jesus came…, proclaiming the gospel of God,

15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand;

repent and believe in the gospel."

1. Joy to the world, the Lord is come.

Let earth receive her King!

Let every heart prepare Him room.

2. Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!
