Hug in a Mug!
FITC Media are excited about Autumn with the prospect of a ‘first fire’ and a personal favourite…layers!
But as we dig out our Winter Coats and fantasise about chunky Slipper Socks and mugs of Hot
Chocolate, we’re reminded to spare a thought for those less fortunate in our interview with Michelle
Coleman, founder of Homeless Heart (and not forgetting World Homeless Day on October 10th). It’s not
all about giving money, a small gesture can mean a lot such as Costa Coffee (Self Service Machines) are
offering free of charge coffee for a whole 24 hours on Tuesday of this week (October 1st); why not pick
up an extra cup…or for a pound each from PoundStretcher we donated some Inflatable Pillows around
Warminster’s homeless; Might sound strange but why not take a pair of socks out with you next time
you’re out and about – you might bump in to someone who would appreciate it as the nights get colder.
October with it’s Carnivals, Pumpkin Trails, Trick or Treat, has lots going on within the community.
September was a busy month, with a huge amount of Fundraisers such as Macmillan’s Coffee Morning;
we saw Sam Gooding Accounts, Westbury, raise £121 for Macmillan as well as a whopping £328 for
White Horse Walk’s campaign for Wiltshire Air Ambulance! Fantastic! Leigh Park Community Centre
raised £152.50 through their Coffee Morning. The Beckington Ball held a sensational event in aid of Bath
RUH’s Forever Friends Appeal raising a gi-normous £30,000! And Children’s Entertainer Dave Hickory,
selflessly donated £100 of his own money to Bath RUH’s NICU (charity decided through a live draw on
Facebook). This is what happens when community pulls together; you’re all amazing!
Also, we cant sign off without mentioning some more ‘amazing‘ people; September also brought us
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and as you know FITC Media has been following a couple of
campaigns on social media, @libertyslegacycharity as well as @adulting.abnormally. We would just like
to say thank you…thank you so much to everyone who shared their deeply emotional journeys with us
to help raise awareness for Childhood Cancer, check out their pages and support in any way you can : )
Warminster Carnival Day - Saturday 26th October Warminster Carnival Committee will be holding their Annual Carnival on Saturday 26th October. Leaving Boreham Road at 6.45 pm, on to East Street, Market Place, High Street, George Street, Silver Street ending at the Obelisk turning into Church Street. Warminster Carnival is the last in the Wessex Circuit of carnivals and brings in many of the entries that go on to Bridgewater Carnival the following Saturday. Illuminated Floats, Bands, Masqueraders and Majorettes to see, something for everyone. Don't miss this event and bring along all those spare pennies to put in the buckets or collecting floats. Come along and purchase the flashing toys from Warminster Carnival Committee before the Carnival. Don't miss out on the Best in Wiltshire Carnival - See you all there: )

friends if they are able to help us by sponsoring part
of a, or a whole, window. Any amount is gratefully
received and the sponsor will have their name
included on our special wall hanging as well as
businesses being thanked on our Facebook page.
We are trying to raise money for a new heating system too and we are still raising money through The Giving
Machine where you can raise funds for us just by ticking a box when you are doing your ordinary online
shopping. Please come and speak to us if this is something that you wouldn’t mind signing up for as every small

Homeless Heart is an online community supporting people who are homeless. Started on 7 August 2019, it shines a light on the real needs of people who are homeless and the organisations/groups/charities that help support them. We wanted to know more so we sat down with Michelle Coleman (above), founder of Homeless Heart, to ask some questions… When Michelle arrived she was bouncing with energy. Her enthusiasm for her cause was infectious and we were quickly drawn in. She was exactly the same in person as she is during her ‘LIVE’ videos (which are available on her Homeless Heart Facebook page). Once we’d settled in we asked Michelle why supporting the homeless community was so important to her, she said that helping the homeless has always been something she has had compassion for. She buys The Big Issue Magazine, has raised money at work for homeless charities and always knew that someday she wanted to do more. We asked why particularly the homeless? Her eyes grew big as she explained with compassion that she felt the homeless are potentially the most vulnerable section of our community, how they are not the problem, that they are the result of the problem and how she feels they are the most misunderstood. She expanded on this further by saying “they are simply people like us who happen to be without a home”. She is keen to break down the barriers and the fear that some people have regarding people who are homeless. She explained that there are so many reasons why people become homeless and how every person’s story is different. She said it could be a breakdown of a relationship, losing a job or substance misuse but Michelle wasn’t keen to speculate further, instead she focused on explaining how important it is to see people as individuals, how the stereotype is so often wrong and how they deserve our compassion and understanding, not our judgement. She quoted Martin Luther King Jr:
“Never! Never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the wellbeing of a person or animal is at stake”. Later we asked Michelle what projects Homeless Heart are focusing on right now, her excitement peaked as she spent the next few minutes’ barely pausing for breath, keen to tell us all of them. Two of them can be seen in her You Tube channel (working with Threshold Housing Link in Swindon & promoting the benefits of buying The Big Issue). Her main focus in the next two months is:
1) World Homeless Day on 10 October 2019. To raise awareness Michelle will be giving a fun but educational talk for two Girl Guides Groups in Westbury, Wiltshire.
2) During Autumn, Homeless Heart is running a three pronged Campaign: 1) collecting any unused mobile phones so that people supported by Threshold can connect better with those services that can help them 2) collecting sanitary pads for a refuge for women escaping (who would otherwise be homeless) 3) supporting the World’s Big Sleep Out 2019 at Threshold’s overnight event in Swindon on 7 December 2019. The Actors Will Smith & Dame Helen Mirren are also taking part (sadly not in Swindon!) but they will be somewhere sleeping out in solidarity together with other people/groups across the world.
If you would like Michelle to come and talk to your business, organisation or group or if you would like to donate or know more, please do not hesitate to contact Michelle personally. Thank you!
