When we are in the presence of any tiny baby, no matter what age we may be, our spontaneous response is one of surrender to feelings of tenderness, protectiveness, care and unconditional love that is simply drawn out of us without our having to think about it. We forget our own struggles and anxieties and become involved and concerned for their welfare, even if we had never met them before in our lives! When we stop thinking about ourselves and go out in wonder and delight at the presence of any child, we discover our hearts are at peace as well. Without even thinking about it we come to an intuitive understanding of what Christian Peace is all about. At each Christmas time we return to an actual name, a face, an infant to communally surround with our love – who calls forth from even the hardest hearts a response of care and reverence. He is God’s gift to reveal the joy God has in sharing divine love and life with his entire precious human race. The gifts we get and the gifts we give at Christmas are our ways of celebrating the great Gift God longs to share with us from the time when the shepherds were told “Today you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger” . . . and love and reverence went out from their hearts to his, and they bowed down and honored Him. The wonderful thing about Christmas is the gentle and natural way God deals with his recalcitrant people. He doesn’t ask of us half the effort it takes to get our homes ready for the guests we are expecting, (and certainly our souls are often more in a mess than our lounge rooms or patios). But instead we are being given the gift of peace to permeate all the crowded corners of our minds and hearts, - which takes place, not as a result of our efforts, but by God’s grace and goodness towards us with his promise, “Peace I give you, my own peace I share with you - and when we open our hearts to receive this gift we find ourselves filled to overflowing! After four years of sharing my thoughts with you in the weekly bulletin, this will be my last letter sent out to you as your parish priest - although I will be staying on to become a team member with other Augustinians assigned to serve the parish for the next four years. I would like to thank you for the warm support you have given me in that time, and to let you know how deeply I have appreciated the privilege of serving Christ dwelling in the hearts of each and every one of you. I pray the peace and joy of this Holy Season of Christmas may be a reminder to you of how close God wants to walk with us each and every day of our lives - and I give thanks that we will continue to journey on together in this way. Readings this Sunday Micah 5:1- 4 Hebrews 10:5-10 Luke 1:39-44 Responsorial Psalm Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved. Readings next Sunday 1 Samuel 1:20-22.24-28 1 John 3:1-2. 21-24 Luke 2:41-52 These two short days before Christmas remind us of God’s powerful promises on the brink of fulfillment. We are not the only ones waing and wondering what is yet to come, especially in these uneasy mes. We have the perspecve of history on how earlier promises bore fruit, as well as our own yearnings. Do we believe that there are promises sll to be fulfilled, and if so, how do we demonstrate that?

On behalf of Mary MacKillop Today, I thank you for your generous support in supplying and assisting with used stamps. 2018 was another successful year of us raising approximately $68,000. A great effort from many, many people. From 2009 until now our total is $312,000. It is through your efforts that the legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop continues in Peru today. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATION
FOR OUR WORK IN PERU
Thank you from the Office for Stewardship, DBB, to all
parishes in the Diocese , for promoting the Peter’s
Pence appeal this year. The total raised by the people
of the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay was $43,087.55,
which was sent to the Apostolic Nuncio in Canberra last
month along with the funds raised by all the other
Dioceses in Australia.
Many projects throughout the world have been funded
by Peter’s Pence. In our region, Pope Francis, through
the Department for the Integral Human Development
Service, sent $100,000 for people in areas most
affected by the earthquakes and tsunami which hit the
island of Sulawesi, Indonesia in September this year.
