In our town a school bells rang for the first time in 1846. The date 8.10.1846 is registered in the school archives.

On this day the new school was opened.

The citizens wanted a new school because the town population

raised and girls started to go to school.

On 13.07.1860 Spiridon Gramadov

and Yanko Divitakov decided to built a new school. They named the school after Cyril and Methodius and

their first students and disciples.

The citizens of Eski Djumaya gave their money and worked as volunteers to have the most beautiful school. They chose a new teacher – Petko Rachev Slaveykov (a

famous Bulgarian writer). Targovishte’s inhabitants chose him and gave him a big salary because they

wanted the best teacher for their children.

The solemn day was chosen- 27.07.1863. The new school was opened. In the school were taught Bulgarian, Greek

and Turkish language, Arithmetic, History and Geography.

In 1948 the school name was changed – from “Sveti Sedmochislenitsi ” to “George Dimitrov” (a famous

Bulgarian politician and prime-minister, a communist party member ).

In May 1992 the name “Sveti Sedmochislenitsi ” was restored.
