description of the property and Geology Is deecribed in

the writer's report dated May 25* 1965.

The present surveys were done on claims

The vortical loop survey wae laid out to cover all

of the conductors indicated in the previous survey and

the results have hean plotted on the eaiae map which

accompanies this report*

In only one ease did the vertical loop survey

check the conductors indicated in the initial survey. In

this one ca&e, a very good check was obtained and it IB

located in claim P-67&BB and is marked "A" on the map.

The cross-overs marked X check quite well with axis of

the previously indicated conductor and the sone tee a

minimum length of 1,200 feet. This zone would appear to

represent a conductor in the underlying rooke.

The magnetic survey was confined to the area of

this conductor and there is what appear B to be a north

trending magnetic anomaly. The conductor cuts across the

INTRODUCTION

Nisto Mines Ltd* and Jelex Mines Ltd* hold a

group of claims jointly in Reid township* The following

report and accompanying map describes the results of

the survey.

PROPERTY AND

The property consists of 51 claims situated in

the southwest corner of Reid township. Porcupine Mining

Division, Ontario, as shown on the accompanying map.

The claims have been registered with the Ontario Department

of Mines as follows:

P-67749 to P 6?75S inoluslv*

P-67762 and P 67763

P-67767 and P 6?76d

GEOLQQf

As all the area covered by the c laims ie overlain

by a fairly thick layer of glacial drift, geological

information is virtually non-existent, The geology of

the area is covered in the Annual Report of the Depart

ment of Mines, Vol. UH|* Part J2* 1944, and by Map

No. 2046, published by the Ontario Department of Mines.

EIIJCTROMAGNETIC SURVY AM

The electromagnetic survey was carried out over

the entire property along north-south lines cut at 400

foot intervals, as shown on the accompanying map* The

equipment used consisted of a Ronka Mark ffi electro*

magnetic unit with a 300 foot coil interval.

An examination of the map shows throe possible

Page 8: In Hay, 1965, an electromagnetic iwrvey was carried out on ... · The survey indioatad thraa waak oonduotiva mona* and , additional work ueing a vortical loop olaotronagn* tic . unit

weak conductive zones which appear to be more or less

parallel. All the responses are quite weak and may be

due to conductive overburden rather than a conductor in

the underlying rooks* However , as the condic tors ali

have a similar trend, they may be deep-Seated conductors

in the underlying rooks*

SURVEY METHODS AND

The electromagnetic survey was carried out using

the Ronka Mark IV horizontal loop equipment with a 300

foot coil interval, in the horizontal loop l*ype of survey

both the in-phase and out-offi&ase components of the1 ' ) ' ; ' .' v ' -

secondary field are measured, whose special characteristics

make possible a fairly accurate evaluation of the conduc

tivity. A conductor caused by sulphide mineralisation

will produce a curve going from positive reading s through

eero to negative and back again to positive, Both the

in-phase and out-of -phase readings show the same general

curve, The ratio between the in-phaee and out-of -phase

readings over a conductor is an indication of the con-' ~ r ! i * ' .

ductivity of the body. A good conductor would cause a

greater deviation of the in-phase component than the

Page 9: In Hay, 1965, an electromagnetic iwrvey was carried out on ... · The survey indioatad thraa waak oonduotiva mona* and , additional work ueing a vortical loop olaotronagn* tic . unit

out-of-phase component, the opposite le tcttft of a poor

conductor. , V

In some areas secondary currents are Induced in

swamps and lakes. These anomalies can usually be dis

tinguished from a regular conductor as they cause a

response of the out-of-phase component with little or no

deviation of the in-phase oowponent*

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The electromagnetic survey indicated three weak

conductive zones all having an east-west strike, fhey

could be due to overburden but the parallel trend of the

zones suggests that they may represent conductors in the '. ' . ' ' '; \ '" -

underlying rooks* As a result, they warrant further

exploration that would yield a deeper penetration, A

vertical loop electromagnetic survey with a large coil

interval is suggested as this should determine whether

they are due to conductive overburden or a conductor in

the underlying rocks*
