Community Charity Day We asked you to dig deep...into your pockets this week...and you didn’t disappoint. On Wednesday our iLeaders collected your loose change. I, G and S Band all contributed to the fundraising for two charities. We collected money for Yorkshire Flood Relief and SEN Ethiopia (an Ilkley based charity working in blind schools in Ethiopia). You raised: I Band - £171.59; G Band - £182.65 and S Band - £171.10 making a grand total of £525.34.

At lunchtime your teachers Battled it out on the hockey pitch, a lot was at stake, not least Community Pride. Thank you to all of you who paid a contribution to watch the nail biter.

Well done to our staff community hockey teams who battled it out for Community pride...it was a real nail biter. The results were: I S G TOTAL

Setting the Standard We celebrated fantastic success in the Department for Education’s ‘School and College Performance Tables’ last week, securing our position with 76% of students attaining 5 good GCSEs (A* - C) including English and maths, over 20% higher than the national average. On this key headline GCSE measure, Ilkley Grammar School is the joint best performing school in Bradford, and ranks top amongst neighbouring Leeds schools in the locality.

We are naturally delighted with the headline result, but also thrilled by some of the detail behind the measure. What is particularly pleasing is the amount of progress which students make from their Key Stage 2 results during their first five years at IGS. Our high position in the Performance Tables recognises the value which is added to students’ achievement in English, mathematics and a wide range of subjects across the curriculum. It is testimony to the commitment and hard work of both staff and students, and reflects the importance we place on all of you achieving your Personal Best regardless of your ability. In terms of the percentage of students making expected progress in English, We are the top performing school in Bradford with 86% achieving this standard; we placed joint second across Leeds and Bradford combined. Indeed, what the published Performance Tables don’t show is that almost half of all students actually made four or more levels of progress in English, significantly exceeding national expectations. This was similar in maths with 51% achieving four or more levels of progress; 80% made expected progress, the second highest in the Bradford district. Click here to view the results.

Well done to our U14 netballers who travelled to Beckfoot on Tuesday. It was a fantastic win for the U14A Netball team, beating Beckfoot 25-7. The girls have made a fantastic start and played extremely well.

Players of the match were Emily Dover (9HED) and Rachel Scott (9PDH).

Our U14A team captain Emily Dover has provided the match report below;

‘On Thursday 26th January we played a home match against Beckfoot School. The first quarter ended with a good lead to us at 10-0, this really gave us the confidence to carry on playing at this standard throughout the remainder of the match. Our shooting was really accurate and the centre and defensive elements of the game were really strong. The final score was 25-7 to IGS.’
