OTHER CFMC ACHIEVEMENTS

• The Caribbean Fishery Management Council achievements

include the establishing of the first Marine Conservation District in the United States EEZ - The Hind Bank Marine

Conservation District.

• Also, the CFMC manages the following marine reserves:

• Grammanik Bank Closed Area

• Bajo de Sico

• Abrir la Sierra Bank

• Tourmaline Bank

• The Mutton Snapper Spawning Aggregation Area

• The Lang Bank Red Hind Spawning Aggregation Area

OTHER CFMC ACHIEVEMENTS

The CFMC established the International Queen Conch Initiative in 1996, in coordination with the US Department of State, and Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC).

The CFMC has collaborated with WECAFC and the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism of CARICOM in several pan-Caribbean management projects.

In addition, the CFMC is the convener of the Fish Spawning Aggregations Workgroup and the Queen Conch Management Workgroup.

The CFMC has been one of the sponsors and actively participates in the Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) and the Fish Fry Event, in Washington, D.C. for the past few

years.

The CFMC wants to express its appreciation to all who have been involved and have cooperated in the Council processes and achievements during the past several years.

Special thanks to the Council staff; members of the NOAA Fisheries’ SERO and SEFSC; especially, the SERO Caribbean Branch Office staff. Also, our gratitude goes to the Governments of Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands agencies (DNER and DPNR)
