Core banking systems remain monolithic and detrimental to a nimble response to customer needs. As such, they are an opportune target for a Microservices strategy.
Seamless, faster payments as well as bundling of value-added services provide new revenue streams. Cybersecurity remains a top focus for risk agenda, while Cloud adoption will help recover costs.
While Customer Experience remains the focus, all four channels have to balance costs, maintain aging core systems, respond to compliance and security requirements.

1. Lack of Speed
From ideation, requirements definition, to approval of business case and finally delivery banks often experience timelines of 2+ years.
The Customers Experience touch points are left stagnant through lengthy release cycles. The finished product misses the mark as the market evolves. Competitors have ample time entice customers with a better experience.
2. High Failure Rate
Initiatives are often too large, built the wrong way, for the wrong reasons. Risk is not managed, funding is structured to “get it right in one go.”
Procurement, funding and delivery run in waterfall, even if the Technology organization sees a benefit in Agile. Customers are not part of the product design process.
3. Rising Costs
Risk and compliance strategies drive up QA costs, managed infrastructure is slow and expensive, production issues can be catastrophic.
Testing remains a manual process that does not scale. Infrastructure is fragmented and lacks modern best practices of Continuous Delivery, infrastructure as a service.
