The month of June is upon us! There are many, many things going on during the month. At some point this month, all students will be leaving the school grounds for an activity. These “out of classroom” activities are important, both socially and academically. They tend to have both an entertainment component and an education component. Students also learn they are representing the school when they attend an event away from the school and there are certain expectations when doing so. This is all part of the teach- ing-learning environment. You are also encouraged, if you are able, to visit the school web site at and view the News- letter and/or the June Cal- endar. Teachers at the vari- ous grade levels will also convey messages via your child’s student agenda. This vigilance is even more neces- sary if an activity takes place outdoors as proper precautions (sun glasses, sun screen, hat, insect repellant) may need to be taken. Lastly, we at the school would like to take this op- portunity to thank all par- ents/guardians for your co- operation and continued sup- port over this school year. Our band season officially drew to a close on May 19 with

our Year-End Spring Concert. The Baillie Beginner Band and

the Pictou County Sharps and Flats entertained with a se-

lection of band hits, sectional pieces, and solos.

Congratulations to our award winners!

Pictou County Sharps and Flats Band Spirit Awards: Domi-

nique Amit, Luke Henderson

Beginner Band Students of the Month:

February - Alex Owen

March - Matthew Gannon

April - Abbie Delaney

May - Olivia Murray

Also, congratulations and good luck to our Grade 6 band

members who will be graduating this year: Dominique Amit,

Brandon Bent, Jennifer Corkum, Nicole Corkum, Carleigh

Halliday, Luke Henderson, Justin MacDonnell, Jill Morrison

(GR Saunders). Alex Owen (Acadia St.), Merrilee Spears,

and Katie Warren (GR Saunders).

On May 23, a total of 24 band members, plus parent chap-

erones, and Ms. Fraser travelled to Canso to see the Sta-

dacona Band and Naden Band perform a musical tribute

celebrating 100 years of the Canadian Navy.

Art at Lunch The end of the school year is fast approaching, and our program only has one pro-

ject left (this day is also a make-up day for anyone who has missed a project this

year). We would kindly ask parents/guardians to remind their child to come and

work on their assigned day. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact

your Art at Lunch coordinator.

The Art at Lunch committee would like to extend a special thanks to Collier Vas-

sallo, who volunteered his time to make the wooden hot plates for the Mother’s Day

project, and to Paul MacLean from MacLean’s Flooring for their generous donations

for this project. Thanks to Nova Leather in Stellarton, who donated the leather for

our June Father’s Day project, and to Yvonne Carrigan who donated her time and

expertise for this project. We would also like to thank our parent/grandparent vol-

unteers who helped us and the children to complete the projects. We could not put

on this program without your help! Thank you!

It has been a fun and exciting year. We have lots of ideas for next year, including

having another artist in to teach the children painting/drawing techniques, and pos-

sibly a potter to teach us about pottery. We look forward to working with you next

year! Hope to see lots of old faces, and plenty of new ones, too.

Our bands received a warm welcome, CDs and souvenirs,

and were able to meet with navy band members after the

show.

A thank you to the students who represented us so well in

public, the chaperones who spent a beautiful Sunday on a

bumpy school bus, and the families who were able to work

this unique event into their long-weekend schedules.

A special thank you and goodbye to Ms. Belinda Fraser,

our Beginner Band Instructor for the past eight seasons,

who will be moving this summer. We wish her the best of

luck in her new position at Truro Elementary School. In

the meantime, Ms. Fraser is rehearsing Wednesday after-

noons with band students who will perform a special musi-

cal farewell at the AG Baillie graduation ceremony.

Our band program begins again in September, and is open

to any interested students in Grades 3-6. Registration

details will be available in the new school year; further
