Seeing the smiles on their faces and the excitement in their eyes as they recount stories and share highlights of their experiences has been truly uplifting. Listening to staff retell some of the funny and heartfelt moments from the visits has been magical. I must admit, when I first learnt that children from the school went over to the Rest Home, I thought it was mainly for the benefit of the residents. Well, after some deep reflection, I am happy to admit that my thinking was somewhat flawed! From what I have witnessed over these two terms of school, our students are substantial beneficiaries from the interaction during the visits. They are developing skills, attributes and qualities such as communication, confidence, self-awareness, humility, love, positive behaviour and leadership, just to name a few. These skills are hard to nurture from a text book or on an iPad! So, I would like to take this small opportunity to thank each one of the residents and staff at the Riverview Rest Home, who are helping to grow, educate and nurture the next generation of children attending Loxton Lutheran School. May God continue to bless you all! Recently, Riverview Lutheran Rest Home was selected as a finalist in the Aged Care Services Australia, South Australian Innovation in Service or Design Award which recognises a program, project or initiative that shows originality to improve the lives of older Australians, for their Lifestyle teams ‘Intergenerational Community Engagement Program (Community involvement with Loxton High School, Moving and Grooving and Loxton Lutheran School). The program actively engages the residents of Riverview Lutheran Rest Home with the younger generation of the Loxton Community through activities that promote intergenerational communication and physical activity which serves to enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of the residents. The program also assists in the breaking down of children’s fears of ageing people and increases their feelings of happiness, helpfulness and positive communication. We congratulate the Riverview Lutheran Rest Home on their nomination and look forward to many more opportunities to come together to improve wellbeing outcomes for the students and residents. I was recently asked by Riverview Lutheran Rest Home Wellness Director,
Mrs Paula Nitschke, to write a small newsletter article for the Rest Home
about our students coming over to visit the residents and participating in
games, songs and activities etc.
I share with you my brief article below:
One of the highlights of the first two terms of the 2018 school year has been
hearing from staff and students after they have come back from visiting the
residents of the Riverview Lutheran Rest Home. Seeing the smiles on their faces
and the excitement in their eyes as they recount stories and share highlights of their
experiences has been truly uplifting. Listening to staff retell some of the funny and
heartfelt moments from the visits has been magical.
I must admit, when I first learnt that children from the school went over to the Rest
Home, I thought it was mainly for the benefit of the residents. Well, after some
deep reflection, I am happy to admit that my thinking was somewhat flawed! From
what I have witnessed over these two terms of school, our students are substantial
beneficiaries from the interaction during the visits. They are developing skills,
attributes and qualities such as communication, confidence, self-awareness, humility, love, positive behaviour and leadership, just to name a few. These skills

Recently, Riverview Lutheran Rest Home was selected as a finalist in the

The program actively engages the residents of Riverview Lutheran Rest

We are only too aware that at times parents
tend to think their concerns are trivial and you
debate with yourself whether you should
contact the school. Our response is that
NOTHING is too trivial when it comes to the
education of YOUR child. So if you have
concerns or want clarification, please contact
us.
Here’s to working together towards a
wonderful start to Semester Two.
Kind Regards,
Brad
Dear Parents,
I hope that the school holidays and break in sport
enabled families to get away and for children to
spend some time resting and recharging batteries
for another school term.
Staffing
We welcome Mrs Kasey Cass to the Loxton
Lutheran School community. Kasey was
successful in winning the ELC educator position
and will work in the ELC each Tuesday.
Ms Chloe Raethel will also be joining our Loxton
Lutheran School community. Chloe will be
working in the ELC each Wednesday and Friday.
We welcome back Tricia and Jade Wright and
their family, who were away for all of the second
term. Tricia will step back into the role of
Reception teacher and Jade will resume his role as
bus driver.
New Students
This term we are blessed to have seven new
children and their families coming to Loxton
Lutheran School. We welcome Marlowe, Aria,
Eve, Quinn, Makayla, Jaslyn (all Reception) and
Riley (Year 2) to our school.
Student Reporting
All students were given reports in the last week
of Term 2. I now invite and encourage parents to
approach individual teachers for an opportunity to
discuss their child/ren’s progress over the past
semester.
Finally…
Schools are dynamic ‘people organisations’ and as
a school community we all have a vested interest
in the well-being of the school. The working
relationship between the home and the school is
a vital link, ensuring a positive and productive
education for every child.
As Principal, my number one priority is the
happiness and safety of every child. Children who
are feeling happy and safe are receptive learners.
If you have concerns about your child, please
contact us, as ‘problems’ are far more easily
attended to now than in the last week of term!
Every Tuesday and
Thursday
from 8:30 – 8:45 am
in the canteen
Toast with margarine, jam or
vegemite.
Fruit will be also available.

To help protect the library books, we ask that all students from Reception to Year 3 use a library bag. This is especially important, as we no longer have a ready supply of plastic bags for children who don’t have a library bag.
Work completed by students in library lessons during Semester 1 is on display in the Library, so feel free to come in and see the Australian Democracy projects completed by the Year 5/6 classes, the display about Ancient Egypt by the Year 7s and some literary activities completed by the Receptions to Year 4s.
Premier’s Reading Challenge… counting
down to the end! Congratulations to the students who have recently completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The record sheets are arriving back at school at a steady rate. We aim to have them all back by the end of Book Week, in Week 5.
Book Club
Scholastic Book Club Orders for Issue #5 will go out later this week and are due NO LATER than Friday 3rd August . Orders can also be placed online using the LOOP payment system explained in previous newsletters. Orders with cash payments can be brought to school in a labelled envelope. Sorry, late orders for this issue can not be processed.
Book Week—18th to 24th August This year Children’s Book Week is in Week 5 and the theme is “Find Your Treasure”. During that week classes will be looking at the award winning children’s books of 2018 and doing related activities. More information will be given in coming weeks about other whole school Book Week activities.
Choir Two weeks to go until the Loxton Lutheran School Choir performs with other schools in our region at the Riverland Primary Schools Music Festival at the Chaffey Theatre. The performance is on Tuesday 7th August 2018 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available and selling fast at all Chaffey Theatre outlets. Our school soloists, Meg Kempthorne, Tahlia Hearn and Dakota Phillis have attended extra rehearsals including some rehearsals at Glossop High School with the full concert band. To sing whilst accompanied by a full band of instrumentalists is quite an experience and we commend these students for their commitment and hard work. Margaret Wormald
