I would also like to congratulate our very own Megan Parsons who received an award for Leadership on Friday night. The Australian Council for Educaonal Leaders (ACEL) acknowledged that Megan has earned the respect and admiraon of colleagues beyond our school and across the state as her skills and knowledge are widely recognised. Her persistence and dedicaon have led to a much improved profile of not only our preschool, but also our school as a whole within the wider community. Megan was an exceponal recipient of this award”. We are, of course, very proud of Meg and are very honoured to have someone of such extraordinary talent in our school. Finally, when our students line up in the aſternoon, I would ask that you wait for them to be dismissed. I am aware that some parents are taking children from lines. I ask that this not happen as I am concerned about the safety and well-being of our students. By taking them from lines as they are dismissed, teachers are able to monitor who is taking the children from their class. This ensures that no-one other than those who should be, are taking our children. The safety of our children is paramount. WEDNESDAY 28 August 2019 | TERM 3

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents/Carers

Our Stage 2 students this week had a visit to Wellington Caves where they experienced the

phosphate mine and tours through both caves. Fossils of megafauna can still be seen. Did you

know that the discovery of megafauna bones during mining was of particular interested to

Charles Darwin and influenced his Theory of Evolution?

On Friday, we will have an author visit from acclaimed Illustrator and Author, Gabriel Evans.

This workshop will give students the opportunity to ask questions from a real author/

illustrator and find out how he works. The cost for this opportunity is $4.50. Space is limited so

don’t miss out.

Our students will also have the opportunity to participate in a display of Japanese Drumming

as Taikoz pay us a visit on Monday. Students will see, hear and feel this dynamic and heart-

stopping drumming with students literally becoming sounding boards as hey vibrate along

with the explosive energy. I can’t wait to experience this fabulous show.

Next week, it is our Kindergarten children’s turn for an excursion as they head out to

Wambangalang for their annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic. I’ve heard some of the bears talking and

they are very excited to be going along for such a fun day.

I would also like to congratulate our very own Megan Parsons who received an award for

Leadership on Friday night. The Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL)

acknowledged that “Megan has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues beyond our

school and across the state as her skills and knowledge are widely recognised. Her persistence

and dedication have led to a much improved profile of not only our preschool, but also our

school as a whole within the wider community. Megan was an exceptional recipient of this

award”. We are, of course, very proud of Meg and are very honoured to have someone of

such extraordinary talent in our school.

Finally, when our students line up in the afternoon, I would ask that you wait for them to be

dismissed. I am aware that some parents are taking children from lines. I ask that this not

happen as I am concerned about the safety and well-being of our students. By taking them

from lines as they are dismissed, teachers are able to monitor who is taking the children from

their class. This ensures that no-one other than those who should be, are taking our children.

The safety of our children is paramount.

Premier’s Debating - Zone Play-off

Recently our Premier’s debating team were involved in an extra debate against Dubbo South Public as a

play-off for the position of Zone Finalist.

We debated the topic, “That we should only ever pick players who are great role models for professional

sports teams.” We were the negative team so we were debating against this topic.

The teams had one hour to prepare the debate unassisted by teachers and without any books or

computers to research. There were some excellent arguments and some great rebuttals presented by our

team. Congratulations to our team for a wonderful effort but unfortunately we went down to Dubbo South

Public in what was a very close debate.

Our thanks go to Mrs Monk for adjudicating and giving up your time so freely. Her feedback is always

valuable and most welcome.

Great work team: Rachel Tomlinson (first speaker), Kayden O’Grady (second speaker), Rory Cameron (third

speaker) and Raff Kater (team advisor).

Hear Our Heart – Hearing Bus

Last week we were indeed fortunate again to have the Hearing Bus come to our school with a visiting

audiologist for two days. We actually had the services of a fourth year student audiologist as well. Selected

students from Preschool to Year 6 were tested which involved 88 students altogether and 39 needed a

further treatment.

Parents and cares should have received a detailed copy of their child’s hearing report outlining any follow

up needed. Several of our students have been flagged as needing to see an Ear Nose Throat specialist and

may be slotted into the “Schools day” with an ENT doctor. Other students may have had wax build up or

fluid in the eardrum. Some students just need daily nose blowing as a preventative. It is pleasing to see our

K-2 students involved with a morning nose blowing program to help clear the ear and nose passages.

Some students will be given permission notes to take home to be completed and sent back to school, as

permission notes are only useful for twelve months. It would be appreciated if those notes could be sent

back as quickly as possible.

News from the Preschool

News from the Preschool

At preschool we encourage healthy eating because healthy bodies and minds learn

best and families are always looking for new lunchbox ideas! The children often

show an interest in what educators bring in for their snacks and love to try

different foods. Miss Bianca often brings in carrot sticks or raw beans with

hommos dip for afternoon tea and with lots of children wanting a taste she

brought some in for everyone to try. Not only is this healthy but it’s cheap and

easy to prepare! James told Miss Bianca that his dad makes smoothies in the

blender with milk and banana and strawberries, that may be our next treat!

Don’t Forget.

Your pre-schooler needs a water bottle every day.

We understand mornings are busy and sometimes

it gets forgotten, but we are running out

of spare bottles because lots of children

aren’t bringing them from home!

“Talk Like a Pirate”

Fundraiser for Childhood Cancer Support 19/9/2019

Each year people throughout Australia support a charity that helps children with cancer. Funds are raised by schools, work places, social groups, service groups and more. This year we will be raising money to support this worthy cause.

The SRC will be helping to run some fundraising activities which will be lots of fun for all of our students. One activity that everyone can start to work on is a pirate dress up costume for the day. Three will even be a chance to “Talk Like a Pirate” and go on a Treasure Hunt!

There will be lots more information coming home soon about the various activities. So watch this space!

Mr Yap is looking for these!!
