Successful Project: Climate Action Plan In January 2009, under the auspices of the Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee, a Climate Action Planning Oversight Team formed to coordinate the drafting of a Climate Action Plan. Teams of faculty, students, administrative leaders and staff across all three campuses worked together to develop the UW plan, which was submitted to ACUPCC on September 12, 2009. The Plan describes preliminary strategies to be explored by the UW, including our intent to work toward becoming climate-neutral. The UW Climate Action Plan sets out broad strategies--i.e. a "Plan to Plan," that will guide us to that goal. 2013 Sustainability Savings = $14.29 million total savings 100% of campus electricity is carbon neutral 81% commute using alternative modes of transportation* 61% waste diversion in 2013** $5.58 million saved via water conservation measures $4.38 million saved via electricity saving measures $1.99 million saved via other measures 70% waste diversion goal by 2020 $1.14 million saved via natural gas conservation $1.2 million saved via waste diversion * UW provides each student with a UPass which allows them access to all public transportation in the greater Seattle Area. ** Recycling and compost bins are provided across campus.
